Solids Tools
I'm stumped, what's going on here? I want to cut the small pin into the large one, and just leave a hole, but when I do they both get erased. This is a copy and paste from my original trying to see if it was in my primary drawing....but it is still doing it. Feed back please, it has never happened to me before (if they are both solids, and these are)

I loved those projections, I hear they used 120 projectors, wow, that must have been some serious head scratching work.
I can't even imagine! 60 each side all controlled by a central network hub, the network, the individual camera control for sync.....mind blowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did you determine she's wearing shorts? It looks like a skirt to me. And the reflection in the mirror shows a blue skirt, too.
You're right, it is blue....but, it still doesn't match up to me. The bar edge must be out about 18" or more for everything to line up.....guess it's possible, but most bars are set at 12" maximum on a non sit down counter and I don't see any chairs there.

So, people who have worked all the life, want accountability, less taxes, work/jobs. Are defined by people using a gross sexual term. Told you we have lost our way. Don't worry, the Tea Party People will be gone, as most are either retired or getting close to retirement. Not sure who will pay for the shit coming down the road. Me, I got my money. Told my kids to leave as soon as possible.
I live in a retirement community, and I see and hear every day the fear of these people wondering how they will make it if the debt and taxes keep rising to fund the seemingly never ending projects. Some are moving back to their kids homes, because the kids can't live here, and the kids have been unemployed for such a long time they are close to losing their home.
Now all this started in this thread because of the use of the term "TEABAGGER" which I find offensive and cowardly and bearing no intellectual honesty.
Oh well onward. Got work to do.
Ken.
On the one hand I agree with you but on the other hand, let's face it, the tea party came up with the name "TEA PARTY"" long after the inference to a sexual act. AND, it has nothing to do with space time religion that this thread was started on. I am younger than you, I'm only 60 (dear God, How did you make 85?) BUT, as much as I believe in having "GOD" on our money, "God" on our public buildings, I don't believe "God" should be taught in schools. This country gives the right to everyone to believe what they want, and not ALL believe the same. Having "God" only, not catholic, protestant, buddist, etc. allows for ALL faiths, and I "believe" you don't have a belief in "God" as to accept that others do have beliefs.Rant over....Political topics need a new thread.

RE: Re: Some Funny Pics.
Funny but how can that be a real reflection of a black skirt when the girl on the side is wearing blue shorts? Photoshop

RE: Opening Ceremonies
I was impressed with the "flies"!!. I worked theater years ago, and to have those types of flies, that big, that heavy, is a feat of engineering!!!!!

RE: Any smokers here? Wanna quit?
Well I still smoke about 3 cigarettes a day (weekdays). Mainly because, I can't hold the weight of even my small unit in my mouth and work at the same time . We get into production runs and I can't stop to take a break, or my crew stops also! I tell them that "If you want lunch you better be able to have a hammer in one hand and a sandwich in the other" so I have to live to the same standards But I have finally got my juice and unit(s) all working where I like. 40/60 24 mg at 4.0

Ahhh.... but that is being questioned also! Is it the result of mass, or is it the result of dark matter, the game is afoot!

RE: Bill Nye vs Ken Ham
I copied this years ago and keep it on my computer, to help me keep an open mind when looking at things that have 2 sides
"Big Bang vs. God
Science and religion have long disagreed as to the origin of the Universe. Science says it’s the result of a Big Bang. Religion says it’s the work of God. Each one says the other is full of it. And just like the classic Japanese monster movie, King Kong versus Godzilla, the two of them have been going at it tooth and nail for years, or fang and claw to keep the metaphor in tact. Through the application of higher consciousness, however, a rapprochement may now actually be possible. You see, the problem is not so much in the concepts involved, but in the words being used.
On the positive side, both agree that whatever happened took place a long time ago. And they also agree that though their theory is the right one, there’s still a lot they don’t know about the process. Science, for example, says that even though they can figure out everything that happened after some infinitely minute period of time at the very beginning, there’s still that very beginning they can’t account for. Religion simply says, “Who can account for God?” which is really the same thing.
The problem stems from the fact that they are looking for the answer in different directions. Religion looks inward, relying on a faith that defies description and that needs no verification other than the sacred word. There was a time, in fact, when this sacred word trumped what was evident right before your eyes. Why else would Galileo be threatened with excommunication for preaching that Earth orbited around the sun?
Science, on the other hand, looks outward. Every theory it proposes, every possibility it brings to the table must be proved in a series of measurable, reproducible, unbiased tests. As a result, today’s prevailing scientific paradigm has trained us to believe that our individual internal experiences are subjective and cannot be relied on. They are, we are told, merely the result of our personal interpretations of what is outside and objective. By contrast, the external is absolute, real, and most importantly, true for everyone, if we would only get ourselves out of the way.
This concentration of science in the outer world would not be a problem, except for a built-in assumption, on the part of many practitioners of science, that the inner reality does not even exist. However, denying non-physical existence is no more intelligent than the religious fanatic who swears that only God is real and the material world is illusion. Each is wrong because each is only looking at half the picture.
Meanwhile, quantum physics has recognized the fact that when you get down into the smaller realms, the questions a researcher asks, about the path of a particle or wave for example, will produce different results depending on the answer the researcher is expecting to find. In other words, we cannot get completely out of the way because we are a part of the process itself. And that, dear consciousness researcher, is where the ultimate answer lies, the place where outer and inner meet… in our very own consciousness, our very own ‘I’.
What if Consciousness, itself, were the absolute Ground of Being? What if the feeling of ‘I’ at the very core of our existence were the origin of all there is? What if “out there” and “in here” are each only half the picture? Then both science and religion would be speaking truth, their only flaw being in their denial of the other. What if?

As far as I know it can only be done in Layout not Sketchup itself.

Don't feel bad Jeff, half the people I've shown this to also fell for it! He played it up real good in the vid.

RE: MeshFusion
To understand a little I had to find Modo... and ran across this in another forum,,
"Are they the same thing as 3DS Max and Maya? What are great or advance features that 3DS max and Maya don't have?
What are the advantage of using MARI and MODO? Like advantage to rigging, animating, texturing, and modeling. Well that's all.
I'm still a newbie……………
…………………………………………………………………………………………….This is a much bigger question than you realize. Each of these tools covers some portion of the 3d toolset. Depending on what you are trying to do, you may use only one or all of these tools.
So, let’s get some of the basics. A typical 3d pipeline requires you to model an item. You can do this in the traditional way with polygons (yep those things from math class you thought you would never see again), you can sculpt a predefined shape like clay, or you can mathematically create an object from basic math. The first two are more common with 3d games or animation, while the last is more common with designing products that will be built in the real world.
Next, you traditionally "unwrap" your 3d model onto a 2d plane, to make it easy to paint textures onto the object. This allows you to use tradition tools such as photoshop, illustrator, and other 2d painting applications to achieve the look you are going for. This is currently the only reasonable option for most 3d games. Or you could use a relative newcomer, ptex, to skip the uv unwrap step, and create a potentially higher quality asset. This is used to paint directly on an object, and use 3d analogous paint programs. (Your render engine must be able to use a ptex file, else you will eventually have to uv unwrap anyway.)
The next step depends on your final target. For games, you will use whatever specialized tools your game engine provides to export the asset, then use the asset in the engine. The game usually worries about making the textures look the way you want them to. For animation, stills, or movies, you are now going to choose a rendering engine, to create your final concept, and prepare it to be used in another compositing program, such as photoshop, nuke, or after effects.
All of the programs you mentioned fit in multiple categories.
CREATE POLYGONS
Modo, 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, SoftimageSCULPT
Modo, Blender, Mari, Zbrush, MudboxUnwrap UVs
Modo, 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, Mari, Zbrush, Mudbox, SoftimagePTex
Mudbox, MariRENDER - This is special, since it will depend on what you are trying to output.
Turntable effect
3ds Max, Maya, Blender, Mari, Zbrush, Mudbox, SoftimageRender image
Modo, 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, SoftimageFor major productions, an external renderer is often used such as:
Vray, Thea, Mental Ray, Arnold, Maxwell, and the one Pixar uses, Renderman. Now, some of the programs make these tasks easier that others, and different people will give you different opinions on the best workflow, but the truth is the workflow that you use that works for you, and makes you productive is the right one.
Hopefully this will help. "
Now that I've burnt about 8 hrs. lol I wouldn't know how to use it! I'm still learning Sketchup!

RE: Curved Staircases
I think the Sketchup input would do, just make drop downs of each category off the main screen Treads, Stringers, Railings, etc.
