Thank you. I thought I was missing something.

    • Export of iso not scaled correctly

Could someone please explain to me why when exporting a 2d iso from sketchup to autocad it is scaled a factor of .08165 compared to the original sketchup model. I have the camera set to parallel projection and the export option set at full scale and the standard view in sketchup set to iso.

When exporting the model in 3d from sketchup to autocad in an iso view the units remain 1:1. I'm sure there is something I have completely overlooked. Any help or explanation is appreciated.

    • RE: Autocad to Sketchup

Have you tried http://www.go-2-school.com or Aiden Chopra's youtube videos? They are excellent starting points for newbies.

You may also want to ditch the autocad linework until you are more familar with sketchup. Sometimes imported linework can be something of a bear to deal with if it isn't 'formatted' correctly.

Spray works in autocad too. Just copy to clipboard from spary then when in autocad
Edit--> Paste Special--> as Autocad Entities.

Its just a short trip to sketchup from there.

    • RE: Sky goes dark

I have the same problem with my home computer. I think its just a graphic card that probably doesn't mesh with sketchup very well. It gets really 'wonky' when dealing with transparent textures. My selection box doesn't appear correctly either, I just trust that I have crossed thru the objects I want selected with the section tool and usually get good results. It's a kind of "use the force luke" approach to selecting.

My guess is it is probably something you will just have to live with, I have tried every setting under the sun to resolve it with no luck. Being it is my home pc I just kind of live with it because I don't do much modeling at home. If your machine is your primary modeling machine you may think about looking into a different graphics card.

Probably not what you wanted to hear. Maybe someone else knows some deeper system settings that could help.

    • RE: Procedural terrains

Just to chime in here and show there is some more interest in this process. We are doing stuff like this more and more and I for one would love to see a tutorial on this process. Time usually doesn't permit us to do the freeform thing and we end steping the contours from survey data or traced images.

I guess my real question is: Are you getting an accurate "dem" image from GE to use as a displacement map or is this more of an "artistic guess" at landscaping. Either way you are certainly on to something here. If someone could build a displacement map routine ruby for sketchup I'm not sure I would need autocad anymore.

    • RE: Mental Ray integrated within sketchup?

Never mind. I should have visited the Mental Images site first. Looks like their business model would require Google to bundle MR with Sketchup. I don't see that happening, and that is probably a good thing.

Does anyone know of any plans to integrate MR within sketchup? I haven't been over to the Mental Images site yet, I figure someone here will know or at least comment on it.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Absolutely unbelievable. It's amazing what autode$k charges $4000.00 for (MAX) is now available for free within sketchup. I sincerly hope the folks autode$k are watching and taking notes. (although I'm sure they aren't)

    • RE: Cad to SU

You'll probably have to explode the text in Autocad first. There is an express tool that does this. "txtexp" will explode both shape files and fonts to linework. Unfortunately there is some cleanup involved, the command creates some extra lines within the letters if your dealing with fonts.

    • RE: The SCF Guides to Post Processing [TUTORIAL]

      Hello all

I'm new to this forum stuff but am I missing something, I'm not seeing the links to download the guide. If someone could point to where to download the post processing guide I would really appreciate it.

Regarding the first post's that were back in November, if you are still needing material for your guide, I would be happy to submit some of my work for you to use. Some examples can be seen at midwestsg.blogspot.com. Please keep in mind that I'm still working on that blog and have done several other su renders that are not showing there, I'll update my picasa account on Monday with the others.
