Any Mac users upgraded to Lion yet? I really wanted to, but then I came across this:
http://www.google.pl/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=6434175f414af277&hl=en
Seems like there are some potentially show stopping bugs. One of which includes NOT being able to get into the 3D warehouse through Sketchup!! That would grind my work day to a halt!
Has anyone on the forum updated? I'd be really interested to know if all of these bugs hit you. I love upgrading, but I think my MacBook is going to stay on Snow Leopard for a while...
I also did a blog post on it:
I had a thought about it being some sort of weird accessibility setting, I checked and everything appears to be normal on that front. One thing I haven't tried yet is booting into safe mode....
Ok, here's an update:
Sketchup's toolbars are still doing that thing that is happening in the video. Other applications on Windows aren't doing this... But, I loaded up an old piece of design software that we have, something that has a really old, Windows XP like set of toolbars, not these slick new ones that you see. THAT program does the same thing. So clearly this is not a Sketchup only problem.
So now I am really stumped. It can't be a hardware issue, and unless I missed something, I did rule a graphics driver issue because I completely wiped the drivers and reinstalled with a fresh, updated set of drivers.
You are correct on all counts, the only think it effects is the toolbar selection and moving process. Sketchup, and other programs perform perfectly otherwise....
I will try deleting more registry stuff...
Ok, I did this, and like you said everything got reset like it was a new install, but I am still having the exact same issue....

Rich and Eric,
Editing the Registry can be bit dangerous if you do the wrong thing but I've never had any difficulty with removing the SketchUp registry entries. It is an At-your-own-risk sort of thing, though. Here's how I do it.
Click on Start>Run.
Type regedit in the box and hit Enter.
Click on the plus signs next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, SOFTWARE, GOOGLE. Find SketchUp8. Delete this and when you open SketchUp again, it will look like a new installation although all of your plugins, materials and so on will still exist. You'll have to choose your desired Default template and set your toolbars again. I don't remember but I don't think you'll have to re-enter your license info for Pro after doing this. It would be wise to find that info first, though. You could also open the SketchUp8 folder and delete individual entries. You might delete all of the toolbar entries which would require resetting them but wouldn't affect template choice or other things.
I am going to kill mine off later on today. I'll just set a restore point before I do it....
Mine do that flicker thing on another computer.... Does anyone have any good suggestions for clearing the registry? Manually by searching for Sketchup references, or a registry cleaner utility?
Yup, only when grabbing toolbars. Everything else seems to work fine...
So I have a Windows PC that is exhibiting strange toolbar behavior. The tool bars when moved, don't appear to be attached correctly to the mouse pointer, they are offset from it. This makes it really annoying to try and rearrange your tool bars. I deleted the graphic drivers, reinstalled them fresh, I deleted Sketchup and dumped the install directly and did a fresh download and reinstalled it. Still the same behavior. It only happens in Sketchup, not other Windows programs with toolbars.
The computer is a Dell Precision M6300 with an NVidia Quadro FX 1600M. Windows 7 Pro 64Bit. I upgraded to the latest and greatest video drivers from NVidias site, and still no luck. I have attached a video of what happens to this post. Has anyone else seen this issue? And if so, how did you fix it?
Interesting perspective, my iPad has become an essential part of my workflow. I do almost all of my mobile computing on it, and save the real work for when I get back to my desk and need to work on Sketchup.
I design kitchens, and I use the iPad from the start of the design, all the way through closing the sale. The only thing I use my PC for is Sketchup, and a few other things that I can't yet do on the iPad. I can even take credit cards on my iPad!
the Ipad can do more then just show pictures, I have my entire spec library in it, tons of 3D models, note taking apps, measurement apps, 360 picture apps, and a ton more.
You could try Cubits for iPad, I use it for presenting models all the time...

It will render and show anything that is on the 3D warehouse. Pretty cool stuff!
I have a homebuilt CNC machine that I made a while back. Right now I am only using it to cut 2D parts. My current workflow is to draw the parts in Sketchup, export them to DXF, then bring them into Vectric Cut2D. From there I can setup my toolpaths then I can dump the GCode right into Mach3 to actually run the router and cut my parts.

That is the design I made, and there is a video of it running in the description.
This is one of the first solid DC's I made. I've got a link back to a blog post on how it works, along with a video as well. It was funny how many people at Basecamp I ran into that knew me specifically because of this component!

Nice work Thomas! I am going to check this out. I really hate trying to find small holes in groups!
Hey guys, Shaderlight is doing a free webinar on how to use Shaderlight, specifically on lighting techniques. I will be there.
I did up a quick blog post with the links to sign up.

So if I get what you are saying, you want each additional copy of a DC that you place in a model do have a consecutive number. So the first model would be 1, the second 2, and so on...
Unfortunately, you cannot do that. DC's are only self aware, they cannot be aware of other stuff in your Sketchup models, so therefore there would be now way for them to talk to one another and do a "head count" so to speak.
Hey Dave, I read that blog all the time! Nice work!
A while back, probably over a year ago I contacted Fine Woodworking to see if they wanted a contributor, although my message wasn't answered.. Perhaps it didn't make it through. Would you guys be interested in having me as a contributor?
HA! I got it, with the help of a local math genius.
Check out the solution attached. Just open the Dynamic Components option and switch the hinging from left to right and use the interact tool on the door.
SIN was the answer!
(fist pump)
Ok, I have attached a more updated file.
If you click on Dynamic Component options you will see a choice for right and left. Try left and see what happens, then right. You can see that while I have the correct animation attributes animating, I don't have the correct formulas... (or really any formulas at all)
I think this is in the world of Algebra and Calculus. My problem is I just don't know where to even begin with the formulas.
When you are trying to get a door to appear to swing right, I need to animate its Y rotation angle to a negative. As that angle changes, the distance I need to move the door in a positive Z direction also changes. If I can figure out that distance I am set. I adjust the Z position, then just offset the size of the door in X and I am good to go.
My research as lead me to this, and I am still trying to make heads or tails of it...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exact_trigonometric_constants
The answer I think lies with PIE, Angle, and LenX of the doors, I just don't know how to put it all in a formula.
Any math geeks out there?
