Sorry, I should have been more clear. Doors that have more than one hinge axis, like bifold doors, accordion doors, or just any mechanical device that uses more than a single axis such as a string of railroad cars on a train. The dynamic components seem to work great for standard doors, but I've never been able to figure out how to make them work with multiple axis.

You can do it with dynamic components. It's a bit tricky, because you have to consider both rotation joints, but not too hard to do.
And one more thing: clogging Sketchup with tools that are too specific, could add speed problems and also could limit it. As it is now, it's very flexible and everyone can tailor it for its own needs, using various plugins. Maybe "wished" would be better kept in this area: only "root" sketchup features, that will make sketchup behave better, no adding new features.
Indeed, a more intuitive DC making method could be a plus...but I can't imagine how it would look (interface, principle).

    • RE: Need advice how to model this

Thanks fredo for the input, but as you can see in the image, there are some strange effects. The model seems to "grow" where the wavy line is. Maybe I should add on each side a second wave, smaller? To make the transition more controllable ?

TIG EEbyR would do it.....after some 'thinking' time as it's quite heavy at 300 segments per curve.

And how to select them? Should I make a group with the 3 profiles and another group with the rail?
I have TIG's extruding plugin, but I'm pretty confused about how to use it, especially the more complex extruding tools.

    • Need advice how to model this

      I have this:
      need2extrude.jpg
I need to extrude the lines from Start to Mid to End, but also to keep the rail's shape.
What plugin would help me for this and how?
I can't make half and mirror, because the rail is catenary (maybe in this example is hard to see, but I have several similar shapes to make).

    • RE: Can I have a Gripes & Bitchin' for Su 2014 thread?

There was a software for woodworking called Woody (not the woodpecker). It still is, but it's ARCHAIC. I would say almost dying... http://www.almod-corp.com/woody_en.htm
I am afraid SU will go in the same direction if it won't evolve. Maybe some voices that are heard by Trimble should speak louder... It's NOT OK to only fix bugs and improve small things.
Once the computing power increases, the designers want to be able to do more, the clients have bigger expectations ... everything is interdependent. One cannot expect to survive many years on the market with the same unchanged product. And SketchUp was a GREAT idea, but it will die soon if Trimble won't take serious actions. Soon meaning maybe 5-10 years. All it takes is a smart guy to develop a similar software that will take the ease to use of sketchup and adapt it to nowadays needs. And there will be one... it always had been (this is how good things happened).

    • SU2014 safe plugins ?

Hy, with the new changes brought by SU2014, maybe a list with working plugins would be useful ? Authors to add them on the list as they are modified/optimized to work with Su2014 / RUBY2.0...

well, this means only that Sketchup DC code is very badly built and it should be optimized by Trimble.

It has nothing to do with interests or what one cares about, these are 3rd grade facts surely there is no excuse for not knowing the earth rotates around the sun every 365 days.

      True !
The pig also doesn't care of that, but only of its meal... but then, it gets slaughtered.
Doesn't mater if it doesn't help you to get your next-day meal, there are some common-sense things that anyone who has access to basic education should know. Otherwise one is purely ignorant and from my part he should be made sausages πŸ’š

ok, it's a particularly small model, wits some small rounding of edges (i know, I could make it to scale, but this is not the point).
      I think it's somehow funny.

    • RE: Bill Nye vs Ken Ham

I'm not sure that anyone should take this debate too personally. As I can recall after watching it, it looks kinda "staged" meaning that they prepared this talk-show to be spectacular, knowing what will happen in the end. And mostly Mr. Ken Ham knew that his arguments will be invalid in the end, but still agreed to "play" this, for the amusement of the audience, let's say.
Just look at each other presentations at the beginning which contained references to the opponent's speech.
So, at least partly, this was a little staged. I won't argue here the things told in the debate (unless your name is Ken Ham, one simply CAN'T argue that πŸ’š ), but I will say this was a show for masses. And it had its audience. I enjoyed it.
Just don't shred your passports πŸ˜„))

    • RE: Different UVs in same instances

I was thinking to this lately... it could make a good "wish" for SU2014 - to have a option to have unique textures on instances. So, only geometry to be shared.

    • RE: Workflow to create npr watercolour type planting plan

you can't use a "generic" style to blur your custom areas in the way you want to. You'd have to create your own style with that shapes, but that will be a lot of work and for no much reason.
But, what you can do is to use a gradient texture like this one and make a different (duplicate) material for each different color you need, then tweak its color via sliders in Material Editor. It migh get you where you want.

I think the wood floors and wood used in kitchen counters are too similar, as well as the wall cabinets seem to get lost to wall color, not enough contrast.

Yes, that is it ! β˜€ I was trying to see what is wrong here... I guess I'm too tired. You said what I couldn't see πŸ˜‰ πŸ’
This is why I added the light above the upper cabinets, to get them off the walls a little. I guess it wasn't enough πŸ˜„)) I'm pretty bad at choosing colors. Actually I try to run from this part. I feel more comfortable with shapes, contours than colors.
      Thanks, solo.

A stool that I want to use in this design.
I remember seeing something like that some time ago. And I think it would fit in this kitchen. So, I decided to follow that idea and make my own stool.
I hope you like the result. If the client will agree with this, it will be manufactured.

Use satined metal long handles or black handles to fit the black panel πŸ˜„

Use this stool set, since you're having a rectangular motif in your concept πŸ˜‰ btw, kitchen looks really nice. I like. Hope the big glass panels are thermal proof glass. Use 2 spots above the block with big glass panels and two above the island. Keep it up. The result looks promising.

      Thanks for input !
Earlier today I decided to use the Cubo Stool that is pretty similar with your idea. This boost my self-confidence, seeing that others came to similar results/ideas.
About glass lighting, I'm using LED stripe, so I don't need to use thermal proof glass. I'll post results as soon as I have some renders. πŸ˜‰
