Thanks for the suggestions Moujiik. I downloaded Rhino 5 evaluation version this morning and it handled the conversion perfectly.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. I've just received a .3dm file for a current project and I need to find a converter. It's a one-off project with a small budget so preferably would like to locate a free / open-source option.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks,
Doug
Nice project. Sounds like we might have a budding future SketchUpper in the works!
Thanks for the quick reply Dave.
I'll test it as you suggest before deleting it.
Hi TIG -
Thanks for a very useful plugin (along with it's companion).
I have a request for a plugin that would build on these two, in order to automatically replace Layers From with Layers To in a SU file. My thought is that the easiest way would be with a simple two column csv file that gives the equivalences: 'From' in col A and 'To' in col B.
I would use it to harmonize layer names across models, so that imported components would always land on the right layers, without having to manually delete and merge the newly imported layer(s).
Not sure how difficult it would be, but would be a great help.
Thanks,
Doug

For example the Parametric Grid plugin is now called Grid Tool and was updated on the 10th of January.
Dave (or other SU guru) --
I had the same load errors with Parametric Grid, so searched the forum and found this thread, then went to the Extension Warehouse and dowloaded the updated Grid Tool.
Before installing it, I have deleted the old plugin. My question is whether the Parametric.rb helper script is used by any other extensions, or whether I can delete that too?
Thanks,
Doug
I don't have any direct experience with the new gen MacBook Pros, but from a reply I gave to a similar query on the other forum:
I have a late 2014 13" MacBook Pro with the following specs:
2.6 GHz Core i5 (4th Gen / Haswell)
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM
Intel Iris 5100 integrated graphics
It runs SketchUp well and drives a Dell U3415W external monitor without any problems or latency. Given that the Touchbar model is two generations newer for both CPU and GPU, (with associated increases in speed/power) it should work well. The 13" model can drive a 5K monitor with a single TB3 cable, the 15" can drive two.
I wouldn't worry about Intel integrated graphics compatibility — there have been associated issues reported with Windows PC's but never heard any from recent MacBooks. Maybe because they use the higher spec'd Iris graphics (vs the lower-end HD graphics often found on PC ultrabooks)— plus you don't have wonky driver issues on the Mac, which support the latest OpenGL spec.
Sorry for the cut & paste, but hope the info is marginally useful.
Used it for the first time today. Works as expected on MacOS (El Capitan) / SU Pro 15.
My only feature request would be for it to pick up the Dimension font and colour settings.
Thanks TIG.
When I had time last night I went back to look at Rederiza's ReScene and it does have a rename function.
It's very slow to load though (at least on a Mac), so your one-liner will be useful.
Is there a (simple) way to modify it to rename only selected scenes?
I have a SU model with dozens of scenes that I'd like to batch rename, in this case by replacing the "Scene" prefix (with a one or two letter appellation) and adding a sequential suffix from the current order.
Is anyone aware of a plugin with that function — maybe one of Renderiza's?
If not, would it be difficult/possible to write one?
Thanks,
Doug
Add my upvote for this moody render.
This looks like a scene that could have come from where I live — with our white and frigid winters.

On a different note I've got my injection coming up on Tuesday, fingers crossed that it works and solves my issues that I've been dealing with the last 2-3 months.
Wish you good luck with your treatment... miserable to be sidelined and in pain.
Haven't commented on this thread before, but have been following it closely and been impressed with both the rate of development and the ambitious scope of your extension.
Hope to see you back in shape and rocking your work in the near future.

Pretty wild design for a first build! (and I mean that in a good way)
Congrats on a great accomplishment.
Really spectacular work. Love the test block with the head, such a cool effect.
Looking forward to seeing the final result.
Love that tram, and pretty much every render you've included it in!
Appreciate seeing the SU model that generated this one.
What would be ideal is a temporary inference override that is assigned to a short cut, so that on those (rare) occasions where inferencing is more hindrance than help — and they do exist, regardless of SU skill level/knowledge — it becomes disabled only while the shortcut key is pressed.
Given the SU product management's extreme attachment to always-on inferencing, maybe this would be a more palatable option for them (vs. an inference on-off switch in preferences) in providing this oft-requested control.
It could also be available only in the pro version, so that it doesn't become a crutch/excuse for not learning to use inferencing the way it's intended.
Very nice work.
I checked out your Flickr gallery and was impressed with the array of beautifully realized projects.
Beautiful renders. Very moody and evocative of another time.
Incredible!
The engine renders are indistinguishable from actual photos, and the level of detail in all the models is remarkable.
