      Thanks Dave
The Sketchucation user form is usually my preferred point of call, however is this something worthwhile checking with the Sketchup Developers at Trimble?

I have never contacted Trimble's support but have just renewed my pro license which I believe entitles me to software support...

      Cheers

      Hi utiler,

      About Problem 1
sampling does not work in this case. The only thing that works is cutting and pasting the text from one text box into the other...and that obviously defeats the purpose...

    • What the heck is Layout doing with Text styles?

      Hi there guys

I have been working with Layout for years now and one thing that has bugged me immensely all this time is that there seems no consistency within Layout when it comes working with 'Text Styles'. What I mean is the following:

      Problem 1

Very often 12pt text shows larger than 16pt text and even trying to use the match style tool does not fix the issue...Please see below.

      Text size problem (1280x892).jpg

      Problem 2

There seems to be now control over the text line spacing other than via the TEXT > SPACING > pull down menu, where you can adjust the spacing to be single, 1 1/2, double lines or custom. I have tried all of these options but I can't see which text this applies to (I assume it is an overall setting). And even the single line the text spacing option is by far too wide to make economical use of your document page. The two text blocks below have exactly the same properties but totally different line spacing. Curiously I can transfer the line spacing with the Match style tool...

Any one out there how can save me from ripping yet more hair? Any hints appreciated...

    • RE: Sketchup scenes keep changing there positions in Layout

Thanks Dave, I guess I have made it a bad habit to update any scenes pretty much every time I have made changes to a scene... in particular adjusting the visible layer sets.

You are right I have to now unlearn and make it a "good" habit to ensure sure that the camera is it's original position before updating.

So am I understanding it right working through the Layout Model window does not translate back to the original model but creates a sideline version of the model? If so that has never occurred to me ....

The answer is often so much simpler than the question

      Thanks a lot Dave

    • Sketchup scenes keep changing there positions in Layout

      Hi there

I keep having this issue with referenced Sketchup scenes keep changing there positions in Layout after I have worked on them and updated the scenes in Sketchup and then updated the reference in Layout.

Is there an option to fixing the position in place (similar to fixing the scale of the reference) so that only the actual changes to the model itself are updated?

It is a real problem for me in particular when updating floor plans that are already fully dimensioned in layout... as all dimensions go bananas 😲 and fixing it is very laborious and vague.

      Any hints or help appreciated

      Cheers

    • Migrating settings and plug-ins to SU2014 in a flash !?!

      Hi Guys

I am lagging behind with updating from SU2013 to 2014 simply because I can't face reinstalling all the plugins, templates and libraries I had so beautifully set up in 2013.... it will take me many hours to set it all up especially as I am running the program on two computers. Is there a way of making a short and sweet exercise?

The Sketchup Knowledge Center in it's "SketchUp Plugin Compatibility" post suggests:

"...Extensions in your “My Extensions” page will be grouped with 2014 compatible extensions together at the top of your installed plugins list. You can install all the 2014 compatible plugins with the “Install All” button. Individual plugin pages will also show if that plugin is 2014 compatible."

Sorry I might be living behind the moon but where can I find the mentioned "my extensions page". I like the sound of "install all" but does it realistically safe time?

Is there a difference in using the extension Warehouse or the Sketchucation or Sketchucation Plugin store?

Is there a way to migrate templates and libraries?

      Any thoughts greatly appreciated

      Thanks Guys

      Hi JQL

Tried installing the toolbar plugin, cannot get it to work, it doesn't show up. I keep I am not sure if it is related but when I use the plugins manager I get the following message...

      Hi Dave R

Your screen seems massive what size is it? I would still prefer optional fixed integration of the dialogues...

    • Sketchup 2014 - Customized dialogue view position?

I don't know about you guys but one thing that has continuously annoyed me over the years with Sketchup are the floating dialogue windows...Layers, scene manager etc. Although I have my second of my dual monitors fully dedicated to the menus I find it very random how they dock to each other, there is just no consistency and if you add up all the seconds re-adjusting it... It could probably be worth a holiday in Fiji by now.

It would be great of there was a better option in any new SkethUp 2014, to keep your monitor real estate sleek and clean, maybe with an option to save your preferred menu layout option, one that can be reverted back to rather then shifting everything around all the time. Multiple custom layout sets to toggle between would be almost to much to wish for I assume...!?!

Any thoughts or comments welcome... 😄

    • Layout 2014 Scrapbook drag & drop both ways!

If you use Layouts Scrapbooks for custom scraps and bits you would probably have noticed that You can drag your scraps and bits out of the scrap book but not the other way around. You have to open the scrap book as layout document in order to add your custom pieces. I would use the Scrapbooks feature so much more often if you could drag &drop either way!

    • RE: We need spellcheck for Layout!

      Thanks Tig & Krisidious

Just had a look at Autohotkey. However I decided to go with a nifty little software (644kb) called TinySpell.

This is a great "as-you-type" correction tool which automatically learns from your mistakes adding your preferred corrections to a windows wide dictionary that applies to all programs and browsers. It is very customizable too... see screen shot.
      Custom Settings

have attached a trial zip, which can be unlocked for U$10, well worth it...it's a keeper! 😍

I still think an inbuilt spell check within Layout is a must.

Thanks again for putting the heads together on this.

    • RE: Change paper size defaults in print menu?

      Hi ArCad-UK

I tried the setting A3 templates for start up...

On start up I also checked by going to: File > Document Setup > Paper - the paper size shows up as A3.
But if I print it still prints in A4, unless I go to: File > Page setup and re-set it from default A4 to A3. Note: if I set it to A3, save the file and restart the program it will revert back to A4, and it starts all over again...very annoying.

      Any ideas?

    • We need spellcheck for Layout!

Has anyone ever wondered why the largest software company in the world which extensively relies on accurate spelling has not included a spellchecker in its own design software Layout? Can't be that hard to implement I imagine!?! There is nothing worse than printing of an entire set of plan documentation only to find a small spello within the title block on every page....

      **
We need spell check for Windows Users...please!**

I hope that the Trimblers will be able to finally fix it.

    • Change paper size defaults in print menu?

      Hi there...

On program start up Layout keeps re-setting the default paper size in the print menu back to A4, I hardly ever print on A4 paper at all...so this is very unpleasant! Is there a way to set A3 as the default paper size?

      Regards
