RE: Problems with road with different value of high..
In the screenshot here you can see I have made the contours into a surface in Sandbox. The contours were imported from the survey into SketchUp in dxf/dwg format.

I have drawn the shape of the road, which you see hovering over the contours (in Red) and in this case rather than just stamp the road, I have first intersected the surface of the contours by pushpulling the road (you can see the original still under the road in backface blue)
The intersection I saved, which gave me this as the road.
This was all done in copies of the drawing, and cut and pasted in.
Then I did the stamp in sandbox, which because of the steepness of the sight made quite deep cuts, which I worked with using intersecting surface, and some hand work to get the road placed the way I wanted it.
I tend not to be afraid to work "longhand", and it does take some work, but the results rendered up really well.
I hope that others jump in here as I know there are other approaches.
Hope this helps. -

Do you by chance have access to the survey contours?

RE: How has the Olympic Games been for you and your country?
I have been really enjoying these games, and have a lot of respect for the amount of work these athletes put in to their sports. There are no real losers here, as the experience must be amazing.
I have also been really impressed with the camaraderie between the athletes of all nations.
As for Canada, well a few surprises, and disappointments but all in all were doing pretty well. -

Dale, I'm no Betsy Ross but I guess the seamstress for whom this table is being built does her cutting while standing. This table is 33" tall.
Kurt, thank you.
The reason I asked is I was discussion something like this for my wife, and she wanted to be able to stand and sit. Everyone has there own preference, and other available space for other tasks.
It's a beauty Dave, are you just designing, or building as well? -
RE: Cutting Table -- WIP
Dave, is the cutting typically done from a standing position, or would there be a need for a position with knee space?

RE: Physical models, anyone still make them?
If you are thinking of outsourcing here is a link to a Vancouver company that operates world wide.
They will quote for free as well. Really fine craftwork.http://www.opengatescalemodel.com/service.html
How complex is the model? Is 3D printing out of the question? -

You've been following the progress of these for quite a while. Is the battery still the bottleneck in the electrics development?
The C1 website has some wonderful pic's of the Design process at work. Great to see the development from cardboard tubes to reality. It really exposes the process, and, positive outcome of strong collaborative design. I'll be paying more attention to these. Thanks.

RE: Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) landing
I'm not sure. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd say this incredible panorama was North Dakota

RE: A Thread for Fine Design
I once had the pleasure of designing and assisting the fabricator in building a steel and wood stairway. This was hands on the grinder, assembled in situ stuff.
I was searching for a photo of them this morning, and as they were done many years ago, I came up empty. In fact the picture may have even been taken with film.(yeah that's right, I'm old enough to remember when you had to walk to the TV to change channels
)
But Running through my files, I came upon some links I had around for inspiration. So I re-screenshot them for this.
I'm always impressed with how diverse metal can be.

The Last one is Victor Horta house. http://www.hortamuseum.be/
I had an interesting thought. I wondered if there was some subconscious link or inspiration that Art Nouveau has had on the curvy ("Nurbsy") works of the likes of Zaha Hadid

RE: Compilation of designed works - poster WIP
Hmmm... I couldn't help but think that you could really push this into an almost cubist realm, otherwise what you are doing may only end up as a colored version of "elevations", and somehow I don't think that that is what you are aiming for.
This is interesting Richard, and I will follow your progress.

RE: "Avatar" project aims for human immortality by 2045
I can't help but thinking the thought of immortality is intriguing. But, to be human,is to be a part of a cycle. That age old cycle concludes with death, and the evolution of your genetics embodied in your offspring.
This would in essence put a stop to that cycle, and therefore evolution.
Also, there are many "human" things that machines have not yet been able to emulate.
So, although, it may be technologically possible for the avatar to become a repository for your "information", I can't see how it could actually be the "conscious" you. -

What a great find!
Judy and I spent long stints as Rangers in a remote wilderness area here in BC called Kakwa Lake.
We would have really appreciated something like this, as we didn't have an extensive wardrobe, and there was lots of hard dirty work involved.
As you say for many, in third world situations, this would be quite welcomed.
I also think it would be great for washing freshly harvested carrots and potatoes etc

"Avatar" project aims for human immortality by 2045
Fodder for discussion?
Russian media magnate Dmitry Itskov is heading "Avatar," a tremendously ambitious and far-reaching multidisciplinary research project that aims to achieve immortality in humans within the next three decades. He plans to do it by housing human brains in progressively more disembodied vehicles, first transplanting them into robots and then, by the year 2045, by reverse-engineering the human brain and effectively "downloading" human consciousness onto a computer chip.

That is fantastic
