I thought that I'd do some real work for a change.
- Modelled in SU
- Rendered in V-ray
- Edited in PSP
C&c appreciated.

Thanks for the water material, though it seems to look tiled.

Reminds me of Silver Shadow's Eye Candy 1.
Thanks that has to be a great compliment!
I've done a little more on the scene.
I've also added a background using Paint Shop Pro.

good idea. in case ofg now using rb. in sketchup we can use the position camera. all we have to do is to draw a line and know that distance then position that camera on that line. therefore we will know exactly the camera distance.
I didn't quite understand what you are meaning. Does that mean that there is a script so that can draw a line, and the script tells you how far away that line is so you can input that distance into the DOF distance in V-ray, and it will be correct?
I think a couple of your light bulbs blew since your last render. Its now too dark for my liking and although I can see some reflection, it's too dark.
Sorry it taken so long to reply, I lead a busy life.
Initially to get the DOF correct, I made boxes to the scale I was working at in a new scene.
(So, if the model is small, like 500mm big, I'd make the boxes 100mm in size.)
I then stacked them side by side into a line and viewed them with so I could see one and the rest were going further away. I then guessed a distance to try and saw which boxes were focused and then worked it out from there.
I hope you understand
I thought I'd make a scene for rendering in V-ray. I have had a few issues with it. But I thought I'd show how far I'd progressed so far. For some inexplicable reason, my bump maps or Displacement aren't showing up in the render. The water was meant to me nice and rippley. Any C&C are wholely welcome.
Hey, this looks like a great start, I'm I guessing right that this is V-Ray?
I think that once you have some reflection on the glass it will bring in more light and add to it.
Thought that I would have a look at the DOF feature on V-ray.
For scale... a person in this model is 340mm tall.
I have used an aperture of 1
and an Override Focal Dist. of 80
This scene is made up of 2036 simple domes and 2314 spheres.
The model file size is 349kb in size.
I have attached a render of with and without DOF
Ha, Just saw "Congratulations Crazy Eyes" and had to look. How is it that that is the most popular model? it's only made out of spheres.
Well, thanks all those that have taken a look at the model, and thanks Jim for letting me know about it.

Thanks guys for your support here. I've had a look at the sites you suggest and that gave me inspiration to generate my own bump map. I've done a cursory render just to see how it will look with the wood texture. I think that I will have to tone down the bump map so the lines don't look as deep, but I'll let your comments decide for me. Also, is there an easy way of altering the positioning of the bump map so that the weatherboards don't have the same lines in the same places?
I trying to make the weatherboards look more realistic. I would imagine doing this with a bump map. Does anyone have a suitable bump map with the appropriate settings for vray that I could try?

Your cottage detail is impressive, one really see how it's put together. I love the roof eave picture. The rendering really shows off the excellent modeling. Is this cottage down under, by chance?
Thanks for the nice comment and yes, the cottage is from New Zealand. How did you guess?
Ok, thanks... that seems to have worked, the groupings are showing up now.
I'm am still making a little more every day.
I've done a couple more renders. Any c&c's are more than welcome.
Hi all
I'm making a model of the first cottage in my town, some 100 years young. I'm trying to render it in V-Ray, but are having issues with some of the groups/components not showing up on the render. If I explode the group/component then it render fine. The example here is the skirting in the lounge. It shows in the SU 2D export, but not in the V-Ray render.
Can anyone help me with this? I don't want to ungroup everything that doesn't show.. it will make alterations a headache.

Ps. I thought that I'd include an external render too.
I thought that I'd model my sunglasses. I rendered them in V-Ray.
I hope you like.
I think that I got it all sorted out. I have put it onto the Gallery.

The best I've ever done was when I was 15 and got into Basic on my Amstrad cpc624 (I think that's what it was, that was umm, <counting> 15 years ago in two months).
I got used to using basic and like all here, I was wondering if it is something that someone could pick up and run with.
It would be nice if some ruby literate people would comment on this
