Does anyone have a half decent displacement map for grass?

Thanks guys for all your input. Sorry I haven't inputed much myself, life has consisted of work... overtime, sleep, kids, work... more over time. Life this time of the year is absolutely crazy!

Your renderings are all great. It just goes to show how crap I am at rendering at the moment. However, I think the render application has a lot to do with the final result, it's also down to personal preference and styling.

Those with the best vegetation are my favorite. Vue being the top of my list.

      @Solo
Using the camera in Vue8 was really annoying and difficult to align using the controls on the right. Is there a keyboard way of controlling it?

This is the latest render of mine from Vue8. It still looks like it's from the Blue Mountains in Australia, due to the blue haze, but the model is for an Australian address so I guess that's not too bad.

      Wow! Everyone!
I wasn't expecting such a response from all.
Solo, you are my inspiratoin, and I was sincerly hoping you would give an example from Vue, truely outstanding.

I thought I would try it myself too. Thing is though that I couldn't seem to get the ambient lighting working very well. Any suggestions? Today is the first day I've had a play with it, so unless it's simple to fix, don't bother even trying to explain to me :S

My Dad recently moved to a different country. He now has a new job as chief designer in an architectual firm. He wants me to keep doing models for him so he sent an example of what his new boss considers a good render.

So I spent an hour making a model of the scene

and then rendered it in several different renders to compare them.

      Vray

Mine are not as good, but I think I made progress.

I know that most of you can do a lot better, so C&C's are more than welcome.

The only things I can see is that the pool is reflecting the ceiling so is all that colour. There doesn't appear to be any transparency with the water. If there was and a different colour under the waterline it should brighten up the pool. Also, there doesn't appear to be any reflection of the lights on the water, maybe not a big enough ripple effect?

    • RE: RAILWAY DRAWING

Very nice. I'm actually building a low-poly train for a BF1942 Mod (Global Front). Looking at your pics have helped me to understand how trains work and so how to construct it. Thanks

Thanks Stefanq, I'll give them a try.
Thanks also for the work-flow info, should be a great help.

      UPDATE
I tried your one named FAVORITE. It makes a really nice job on the internals. Though I'm having issues with the power draw on my rendering laptop, and it keeps turning itself off. I think I might have to install the software on one off the others instead.

      Hi Stefanq,

I've always admired your V-ray talent. You seem to have quite a grasp on it's usage. I was wondering if you render your models as complete rooms using an internal shot, or just set what you want up in a studio.

I am trying to render some interior shots, but they just aren't working well at the moment. Do you have some sample visopt's I could try?

Very nice models. They look low poly...? Are you intending to use them in-game? A good source of photos of landing gear is flickr. I got all my resource for my planes from there.

    • RE: Jittery Drawings

Great, just when you think that everything is going so well. I made the adjustments to both the walls and the floor models, then imported the floor into the walls model and now the floor is doing very strange things. Would anyone care to take a look???

Maybe I should just get the plans and draw it in SU from scratch... but that doea seem such a waste when there is already a model there, that just doesn't want to play ball!

    • RE: Jittery Drawings

Ok, so I shifted the model to the origin, and it is fine now. Isn't there an option to shift the origin to your model rather than vice-versa?

EDIT: And I just clicked on the origin and noticed that there is the option to place it onto the model.

Great help all, thanks a mil

    • RE: Jittery Drawings

Thats much better, thanks. Your right, this one is working, but I opened the original and tried making the adjustments you suggested in the "model info" window, but it is still jittering.

As for setting the default... mine is correct, but the export, which is the original file you saw, is obviously set to those parameters and overrides my default.

Oh good, it's not just me. Maybe I'm not quite as crazy as my name suggests. Now, just to find a solution. Is it's SU's bug or DWG and Spirit's bug?

      Cheers all

      Hi,
I hae recently received some Spirit to SU exports to work on. When I opened the files, and started to look at the content, the lines would redraw out of place causing a jitter effect in the view. I have tried this file on two different computers, one running SU7 the other SU6. Can someone take a look and tell me if it's doing the same with them. And if someone who knows about this sort of thing looks at it, can they tell me how to overcome the problem?

      Pre Thanks

Thanks, it's meant to be low-poly because it's for a game mod. Even though loy-poly, it's still accurate πŸ˜‰
