      To all:
sdmitch has been on the case, and I am very happy to report he has exceeded all my expectations!(Layers_to_Groups plugin)
I have no idea how you do it......but I am so grateful you can...and do!

      So.....a million thanks to sdmitch. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿค“

Charlie, I have sent you by Personal Message a modified copy of GroupByLayer that I hope will do all you wish.

      sdmitch,
Thank you+++ ๐Ÿ˜„ I gave it a go, and replied via detailed PM with an example file.

Geting the imported layer names same as the new group names before forcing all geometry to layer zero would be so much apreciated. ๐Ÿ‘

Anything beyond that (layer consolidation via prefix) would be super fantastic! ๐Ÿค“

I really...really...really apreciate the help on this. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I think TIG made a plugin that would send all the geometry in a group to Layer 0. Would that help?

      Thanks Dave,
I have this plugin by TIG (Default Layer Geometry) and use it. (thanks TIG)

Ideally It would be great to have one plugin do it all.

Heck, just having the created groups (group by layer) take on the imported layer name would be a great help.
As it is now...group by layer...does just that....but all group names remain "layer 0"

    • Name&Group geometry by layer...then default geometry

First, thanks a million to all of you Ruby wizards!

I have been using the plugin "group by layer" by Rick Wilson (2006...see attached)

It does exactly what you might expect, it groups all geometry by it's layer.
(I know all native geometry should always be on layer 0 in SU.....but this is imported geometry here)

      So, my Q:
Does anyone know of a plugin that will:
Take imported geometry and place it in a group of the same name, and then after grouping and naming all.......place all geometry on layer 0.

A real bonus would be if it could further consolodate the "like kind" groups all to one of same name.
      IE:
      Exterior_Trim would take in all Exterior_Trim0 thru Exterior_Trim 14

Hope all this is making sense....and thanks for any help on this...much apreciated

I see it here on my end.......perhaps it is "off screen" (are you using more than one monitor?)

EDIT: I assumed what you are calling the layer "panel"....is the layer window. (correct?)

Sorry I cannot be of more help.....I have heard of this happening before (window off screen)
I just don't recall the method of re-setting it's location.(assuming this is your situ.)

Looks great Jo-ke... One thing I find strange about the sharing system is that it scrolls out when I scroll forward. and in when I scroll back. Seems backwards to me.

      Kris,
Same here.........seems odd/opposite to me too........though I think if you look at it as though the object were "in you hand"....scroll wheel forward....interpreted as pushing away.
      And of course conversely.....same/same.

That said........if your scroll wheel were a fishing reel/or winch.....scroll wheel forward would of course cause the object to move away.(line out/moving away)

Oh well.......also worth mentioning.......airplane pilots readily identify with the forward "away"/inward "back"..........good thing I am not a pilot!

    • RE: File/Update Document Command

      RE: Shortcut assingment
I think File/Document Setup......is the closest you will find (useful) for updating a viewport on a locked layer.
This of course still requires you to make the additional selection of pertinant model reference(s)..........and of course select Update.

Unfortunately there is not a shortcut option for File/DocumentSetup/Reference(s)
      (I wish there were!)

      Re: File/Update Document
My guess would be you must have a specific document in the LO file selected "prior to" for this to have any effect.

And I'm curious...were you going to fill the sched. 40 with conc. as well?

      @unknownuser said:

hmm. i'm not sure i quite follow what you're saying? what do you mean?

      Jeff,
I used to do a fair bit of commercial work (restaurant/bar/etc.).
Often the tables and chairs (similar to your design) were installed using a core drill and grout.

You simply drill the appropriate size hole in the conc. slab, and set the round base in the hole and grout.(brace plumb/level)

Obviously you have to be cautious of what is "in" the slab, and or, the type of slab. (post tension?)

So rather than rely on bolts (expoxy set?/wedge anchors?) as in your design, core drilling would potentially be a stronger/tamper proof option.

      Just My 2ยข ๐Ÿ˜„

      Charlie
      Edit:
PS.......you may want to explore buying the bases instead of custom fab. (Outwater Plastics?)

I agree for most things though there are some that I find much more important than others.
      But for short:

      • Lock viewport for editing while still allowing it to move
      • Ability do disable drag for moving around things, replacing it for "M" or icon on the toolbar.

      JQL/OTB/all

Thanks for you detailed requests...99% I agree ๐Ÿ˜„

      Please........TSU...........listen to these guys โ˜€

That said.....and.....for now....I either isolate all SU viewports in LO by layer...and lock that layer. (allows free flow selections/no risk double click/etc.)
I understand that this is limited... as soon as you unlock the layer....all bets are off.

      That said:

Try grouping you're SU viewports per sheet(and/or incorporate layer option above).....this will isolate/mitigate the inadvertent "double click" activate/edit in SU situation.

Text/Arrows/etc may require adjustment after move...but often they will anyway.

Just a quick update on this.....figured since there weren't any...."yeah me too" replies,
I checked LO 2013 (still installed) on my machine and it behaves the same as I describe above.(LO 2014) (viewport line style/scale fails to display/print properly)

Funny I do not recall this behavior in previous versions...and I am fairly certain I have saved .pdf output files to prove that.

Anywho...seems to be a localized situation.

      Best,
      Charlie

PS....now to try and understand why last saved SU view seems to randomly populate already assinged/scene specific viewports in LO.
