was able to run this by a friends vray installation with some geometry touch-ups and a bit of texture and light love. will see if can render some more angles.

RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
unfortunately not the last version - had some data loss recently. so expect some rough edges and bad texturing here and there. that's all I can offer. have fun!

Great modelling, how did you map the roof texture is it projected ?
thanks, I think it was, if I remember correctly. has been some time since I did this. it was a challenge for sure

hey can i get the sketch up file. i really needed it for a design case study...
sorry, it's buried somewhere in the infinite black hole that's called my backup discs.

Each situation is going to require more intelligence than a plugin IMO.
Unfortunately
Seriously, I can solve it manually. I just ran into some situations and thought maybe there was something available to ease my pain.
thanks again for all your inputs.

RE: Possible to move line and create intermediate geometry?
thank you guys, helps a lot although it doesn't solve the problem in my current model with a lot of attached geometry. I solved it by doing it manually with some guides and make planar commands. This would be an interesting approach for a plugin though. in C4D zero extrude can help you out of those situations if I remember correctly.

Possible to move line and create intermediate geometry?
I hope I can explain this one properly.
I want to move the selected edge downwards.
but instead of ending with this default result...
I want to end up with this result.
rotating and generating the new geometry was another method that would work, but not with the standard tools as far as I know. Is there a plugin to achieve this? Or any other solution. It would be ideal if this could be achieved on a per vertex basis.
I'm working on a model where I have a lot of angled faces that need this kind of indents from existing geometry.
Asking a lot, I know.
Thanks for your help.

RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
after a timeout I took this model again and found some more time to render a few angles. see a photo from the original set and the rendered replica. rendered with thea presto in record time of 3 minutes (would have been already good enough after 1m probably). absolutely no postwork done apart from contrast and levels.

feel free to download. here's the new link (the old one is obsolete): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/51151448/sketchucation/Skytower.skp
I haven't had any time to work on it any further, others might have more advanced versions in the meantime.

RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
stevieC. As long as you don't use it commercially or abusive I have no problem if you use it. When you credit me please make sure you do a better job in converting. The first render shows a lot of triangles and faces that don't belong to the model (roof, pool, tower etc.). Have fun!

RE: 2013 crashes everytime i use fredo6's bz tools?
@fredo6 said:
What would be helpful is that you describe the context of the crash
- at startup or when drawing or when generating or when modifying
- which tool or all tools
- etc....
Fredo
Ok, I played around with the different tools for some time each. Problem is: There's seems to be no pattern in when or which tool crashes. Sometimes first click into the canvas, sometimes some control points into the operation. It seems that each tool crashes equally probable.
Let me know if I can do anything else to find the cause of this?!

RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
Very excited. I downgraded my CUDA drivers and now Presto is finally working. The image you see is a 30min Presto (MC) render straight from SU (didn't even export to studio) with quasi no material tweaking. Presto is crazy stuff. Even with DOF this is prime quality for the short render time.
Only downside: as soon as I introduce IBL or mesh lights to the scene I get massive fireflies in the render that get worse and worse the longer it progresses. If anyone has an idea why this happens or what to do to avoid this behavior, I would love to learn about it.

Pete you ave a talent for rendering, impressive, would you mind saving the file to an older version of sketchup, I'm still on version 8
maybe solo can share the V8 version with the bubble copter included?
-
RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
Cool, love the bubble copter. Unfortunately I can't get presto to work here. I think the latest CUDA update on OSX broke it. Did you model the copter from scratch. Did you find any blueprints or just by eye?

RE: 2013 crashes everytime i use fredo6's bz tools?
no, not at all. everything else works perfectly fine.

RE: Modeling and rendering (update 2013.08.02)[watch last page]
wow, your renders have the quality I always try to achieve and fail miserably
-
RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
OK, there it goes:
I also included a HDRI background I did in VUE with a cloud cover beneath the model. It's not the best HDRI but maybe helpful as most HDRIs are only black in the lower half.
happy rendering!!!

RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
dropbox sure!!!
I do have that. knot in my brain. I'll go over the model and rename materials definitions and group names so the structure is easier to understand in english and post it soon.

Or share the model so the guys here can play with various render engines and see what they can achieve.
I can surely do that, if people want to. So you can see my sloppy modeling on some parts
Would love to see what some render experts can get out of it. Maybe a render that challengeQuestions:
- Where would I share the 50MB+ file. I don't have a filesharing account? (wetransfer probably?)
- How would you like me to share the file. Cleared from all the materials/textures or with them?
I can also share some movie screenshots and images for reference with the model.
@iichiversii: I think those game engines are really an interesting alternative to static still renderings nowadays. Could you recommend one for mac? (Unity, UDK etc.) Is this somehow straight forward to get results with them or is there a lot of coding involved?

RE: Sky Tower (Oblivion Movie) - WIP
a first shot from the inside. due to bad render results, rather artistic than photorealistic.
