RE: Sketchup + Vray
Ciao Luca,

RE: ReD and WhiTe
The way you integrated people in there is just awesome... did you take the photos on purpose with the right lighting? Beacause it all seems too perfect to be something you found on the intewebs!
Great work!

E' splendido!

RE: CAD v Modeling

I am currently trying to develop a workflow link from SU to CAD drawings for architectural work (small scale stuff - houses).
So far I have worked out that the plans and sections can be exported from SU with a thickness applied to the section cut, thus eliminating the need for linetype adjustment later. I am currently using CAD to add dims and some shading to the SU import. That just leaves the actual detailed drawings and as I import these as 'standard' details (to be adjusted per project) this is quite simple.
With discipline in the creation of SU model, so far this is working quite well.David
Your response got me thinking, because one of the major issues of exporting a section cut aligned view from Sketchup are alle the single lines you end up with in the drafting program. Then I thought about Archicad and I think there is a nearly automatic solution for this problem:
Since version 11 Archicad has intoduced a feature called "linework consolidation", that lets you transform all the 2d lines you get from a cad in single polilines. It allows you to transfer all of these lines on a single layer of your choice, change the colour of those lines and so on. This comes from the need to create more polished drafting from an autocad import, but now it occurred to me it would work nicely with a dwg file coming from SU as well. Will havo to try it out!

RE: Up sticks to Version 6? - MAC??
If you still can, and are willing to pay, I'd advise you to do a bootcamp and install windows XP.
Hate to say it, but SU7 runs much more smoothly on the windows partition of my Imac, and a lot of plugins work better.

Unfortunately I tried this hack on a Vista machine and the result was none
But, I'll have to retry on a clean machine...

RE: Walkthrough of models
What I am anout to suggest may not be the simplest road to follow, BUT it will give you the best interaction possibilities for your clients.
Once you are done modeling with sketchup, import the model in Blender. If do a search for game blender you can then implement a first person moving camera in the model. Once texturing and lighting is done (although I have no idea if texturing passes correctly from one program to the other), you choose your first viewing angle, then save an exe file that works exaclty as a first person shooter videogame. Except from the part with guns and monsters/zombies
give it a try it's easier than it sounds!

I create a small box so I can quickly reorient the screen cursor onto either of the three default planes - put the cursor on one of the faces of the box, hold down shift to lock the orientation - this works but I'm sure there's a shortcut but I've never discovered what it is.
Happy Sketching,
Brad
Maya style, if I understand what youre doing
The shortcuts are there: ctrl+1, 2, 3 enable front, left, top etc (not in this order I am only making an exmple here) -
RE: SU available in 12 languages ?
So this happens in other languages too
I have always fought with the italian version of autocad: while in university i learnt the english version first (because I know english) then was forced to get the italian version (because all the other fellow students were using that, and I found I had to re-learn all the shortcuts) and eventually.... I gave up autocad altogether

- Until you get used to the 3-point perspective SketchUp uses, you might want to activate the colored crosshairs (Window > Preferences > Drawing > Display crosshairs).
My 2 cents.

the three pillars of modelling well (IMHO, of course):
- work ALWAYS on layer 0;
- GROUP whatever geometry you are creating (in case there should be more than one copy of it, make it a COMPONENT);
- place it on another LAYER whose name makes sense (essential for controlling the model's visualization).
This is very true, but it can lead to a lot of problems, when you export your model to another program, to render it. It happened to me, exporting the model to 3D Studio, and I had to open every group and re-assign all the geometry.
