ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
-
I recently built a new machine (22" LCD/Intel Q6600/4GB RAM/ATi X1950GT 512MB/all the other regular stuff) that featured an ATi HD2600Pro 512MB at first. SU6 on the new machine with the HD2600Pro 512MB seemed slower than on my old machine (22"LCD/Intel PIV 3.4GHz/1GB RAM/ATi 9800Pro 128MB) so I bought the ATi X1950GT 512MB and tested it. The X1950GT 512MB was faster so I got rid of the HD2600Pro 512MB (donated it to a friend with a really old PCI-E GFX card in the end).
To cut a long story short, I don't think the HD2600's have what it takes to run SU6 smoothly.

Hm...
I have same problem like some of u. I have Intel C2D 2,6Ghz, 4Gb of memory and ATI Radeon 2900xt and 64-bit VISTA. And Sketchup work so slooooow that I think P1 is faster and not this super computer. I even disabled hardware acceleration and work only on CPU.
Will be there 64-bit version and any new version which will be optimized for good graphic cards?

SAME PROBLEM Here with my ATI HD2600... Cannot use hardware acceleration coz of selection bug....

Same problem with our new desktop computers with ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. Sketchup is unusable with hardware acceleration on.
For what it's worth, Sketchup runs great on recently purchased laptop with nVidia card..

Hey guy,
I just builted a new rig with a ATI HD2900XT with 1Gb DDR4 clocked to 850Mhz core and 2150Mhz memory, and SU6 Pro is running pretty smooth so far. Using Catalyst 7.12 and in CCC (Catalyst Control Center) to reduce the jaggies I have these settings:
Standard Settings: "Use custom settings" box is Checked
Anti-Aliasing: "Level" set to 4X, "Filter" select Box
Anisotropic Filtering: "Pre-pixel sample" set to 8X
Catalyst A.I.: On the slider set to Advance
Mipmap Detail Level: On the slider set to QualityI also still have "Use hardware acceleration" checked or ON. I think maybe with the 1Gb DDR4 memory and the slight overclocking must be a big help.
I hope this help you guys with ATI cards out there fight the jaggy eadges.

Same Question!
does anybody can 100% solve this terrible question?

I will appreciate so much

I think I have a solution for this (at least it is working for me so far)
I have recently got an imac 24 with the ati 2600 xt video card. Had I known the issue I wouldn't have gotten it but I didn't, at the time. So i did a bootcamp, and installe win xp Pro, then proceeded to install sketchup. Soon, I found out the glitches: the front face would never be selected, even if I checked the reverde face fix in preferences. I had a short deadline for a job, so I had to cope with it, befor finding a solution!
Tonight I had a look on the web and luckily for me the italian base came up with a solution:they say that the Radeon 2600 architecture is very similar to the ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5600. Only problem you have to modify it to make it work on portable components.
So I downloaded the latest fireGL drivers from AMD/ATI site and then I got the mod tool, you can download it here:
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
Read carefully the instructions for the download of this tool, because you need some microsoft components in windows XP. It says that these are not necessary for Vista... I have tried this hack only in win Xp pro.
Once you have the two parts start the installation of firegl drivers. The program will decompress the files in a directory like c:/amd (but you can choose the location It will then start the installation, but tell you that he doesn't find any compatible hardware. It's ok, just cancel the installation.
Next, install the mod tool, and start the program. In the window of the program, search for c:/amd (or the folder where you extracted the files) and make him do the mod.
Now, simply restart the installation of the driver, clicking on the setup.exe file of the fireGl drivers. If everything is ok, installation will start, asking you to confirm the installation of non registered drivers. Let him do it's thing, and once you restart the system, the driver is good to go.
Now, when you open Sketchup, you should see that all the problems have gone. and the program runs as i should.
Tomorrow I'll give me a lot of SU love
As usual your mileage may vary, and remember that these hacks are potentially dangerous for the system or the machine. Do a backup of your data and keep the original drivers handy, in the case something goes terribly wrong.
Ciao, from Napoli
