Thank you for the recipe Eric, I have never cooked a Turkey before, (thanksgiving is not a Kiwi custom,) but now I can give it a shot. It sounds an ideal way to cook a good feed and clean the oven at the same time. Much more humane than cooking pregnant Turkeys I'm sure.
I may try it for my Xmas dinner.
Cheers, Bill

RE: Help! southern hemisphere users here!
G'Day lets_roll. I'm a Kiwi and and using SU free. This is a problem that I had to find a workaround for, but now that I have read the posts above I shall use the .rb script. If all else fails re-orintate your model 180deg and add (or subtract) 6 months and swap am for pm Works a charm every time. But if you are intending to render it in KerkyThea, and possibly other render programs, leave it as it is and alter the lat and long there.
Cheers and Beers,
Bill.
ps. Ta very much Taff for all of your .rb scripts they certainly make life in SU easier. Have you a tut on how to set up a script? -
RE: New to this
Welcome John, you have just been informed by two very good Tutors. I started in May this year about a week before SketchUcation got busy and I think the stuff that I'm doing is almost up to the standard of the pros already. Kris has presented an excellent tutorial on how a pro builds a house in SketchUp that you will find invaluable, I think it is priceless. It certainly got me off to a good start,Thanks Kris. The tutorials in the help menu are the best place to start,IMHO, and practice before you get into anything serious. If you learn to walk before you try running you won't trip over so often. It's a wonderful program and the community here is extremely friendly, helpful to a fault and they still find time to show some wonderful quirks of humor. You are going to love it and make sure you look in here often, this is the best place to pick up ideas and tips, even before you understand all the lingo. Once again welcome.
Cheers and Beers,
Bill.
Sorry about that Boo, you must have posted while I was writing
They are all very good tutors John, and there are many!

RE: Number of users
Thank you Antonio, you have explained yourself very well indeed and I do hope that you didn't take offence at my little bit of 'leg pulling' Once again welcome and I wish you every success in your business venture.
Cheers and lotsa Beers,
Bill. -
RE: Number of users
Thanks Gai, :egrin: that satisfied a little of my curiosity, but back to the original question I, and others here are not sure about why the gentleman needs to know. There is one hell of a difference between curiosity and needing to know. Now Antonio is conspictuos by his absence when we need him most to settle our curiosity. I do hope that 6911 tag is pure coincidence and nothing to do with American history!
Cheers and Beers,
Bill. -
RE: Number of users
I think that this is the oddest request that I have seen to date. In this forum nothing is impossible, but if you read through the posts you will notice that sometimes, in order to answer a question, a little bit more information is required.
In order to be able to meet your request we need to know:- Why do you NEED to know?
- Why have you left your profile blank?
Other members of the forum may need other information in order to meet your requirements.
Such as:
a/ What is your annual income after tax?
b/ What is your bank account number?
c/ What are your credit card details?
I'm sure that after you have given the above information the information you require will be given due thought and deliberation and answered to the best of our humble, and almost limitless, knowledge.
Welcome to the forum and you will find that questions relating to the use of SketchUp and associated programs will always get a more sensible and useful reply. You are amongst the best here and everyone is on a level footing.
Cheers and Beers,
Bill.

RE: Clip mapping and bump mapping and...
Well Masta, it has all been said! Here we are in different countries, different occupations and different ages but it seems that in some respects we are all very similar. The old saying, *If I knew then what I know now I'd be everything I ever wished to be!*hold true. When I was at school I was so bright that I could do all my assignments in less than half the time the rest of the kids took. Then I got bored, (oh how I dispise that word), and would slack off and get into the most frightful mischieve. My father pulled me out of school at 15, that was the youngest you could leave school here in those days and put me in a job that had absolutely no challenge whatsoever in it. After three months I'd had enough so I tossed the job in, left home and ventured forth to find my fortune. Over the next 40 years I found, and lost several fortunes. I went from rags to riches and back several times but I never had to use my brains too much as long as I was fit and healthy, so now I'm a 'Jack of all trades and a master of none' Commercial fishing was the only occupation I had that had any challenge, every day was different and situations could change in an instant, quite often for the worse, and the right decission had to be made instantly because lives and gear were at stake if the wrong decission was made. Every day was a challenge and I think that is why I enjoyed it so much. But all good things come to an end and my end came when I broke my back and my neck in a stupid motorbike accident, it wasn't an accident, it was absolute stupidity on my part. So here I am, back to the rags stage, but one hell of a lot wiser for it. Since then I have had plenty off time to think and mull over my past and if I could have it all over again I would, only I would make different decissions. I have had the good fortune to mix with people older and wiser than myself all my life and if only I'd had the commonsense to heed their advice things may have been different. Ah well I'm older and wiser now myself and it certainly is not too late to make another start. I am thoroughly enjoying SketchUp and this forum and I have gleened a lot of very usefull information and skills to the stage that I'm going to approach any and everyone that I can find who might be able to use the skills that I have learnt here. Then, once again, I shall climb out of the rags and maybe not to riches again but at least into a comfort level where I can afford to eat more often than once a day. Well, well I have rabbited on, haven't I? We were all young once and we all had an impatience that diminishes with age as we come to realise that whoever made time made plenty of it, no one knows how much, not even Google.com. A word of advice though, get as much sleep as you need and you need plenty when you're young, and while your not sleeping enjoy life. When things are getting you down and everything is going cockeyed say to yourself "One day I'll look back on this and laugh." I look back and laugh often, it keeps me in a cheerful frame of mind.
Cheers and Beers,
Bill. -
RE: Clip mapping and bump mapping and...
Well Masta Sqidge if you wish to grow up and become Mister Sqidge I would suggest that you find other employment. Geniuses, or is that Genii? would surely be in a position to find a job that is more suited to their intelect, I would think. Now that is not flaming son, you are surrounded by gentlemen and women here and I have never seen an instance of flaming on this forum yet, maybe you are mistaking constructive critisism for flaming? If that is the case I would suggest that you hang up the genius tag that you have given yourself and leave it hanging up until, and if, you ever deserve it. That,Masta Sqidge, is advice from a 63 year old with an IQ of 130 and who figured out that the best way to learn anything was to keep the eyes, mind and ears open whilst keeping the lips buttoned.
Cheers and Beers,
Bill.

Thank you Howard. I am just starting to use ruby scripts and was playing with the mirror.rb last night and getting some pretty strange results. Your pic explains it all. "A picture is worth a thousand words" Thanks from the snowy south.

RE: [Plugin] Roof.rb v2.0
It's GREAT Tig!
I couldn't get it to do a Pyramid roof before, (because I was doing things wrong,) but now it's 'no sweat'. Roofs are very important to me because thats where all my household water is collected from. The stuff that comes crashing in on the beach here isn't very nice to drink, too much sand and salt in it.
I had a peep at the script but I'm afraid it had me bamboozled, I thought it might be like setting up a macro in MS Office and therefore maybe I could make a contribution one day. Up 'til now I've used several different methodes of constructing roofs, but this sure take the guesswork out of it. Keep up the good work!
Cheers and Beers,
Bill -
RE: Okay, I'll bring in first "house" plant...

Hi Shaun, I'd be very interested in seeing your Industrial Kitchen as I used to work in one many moons ago and it would be great to see how you model the equipent in SketchUp.

RE: Just to say "HI"
Well! That's a turnup for the books! Three posts in a row with Kiwi connections, bloody near 1/2 the population!
Good to see you there Blahman, wot's your normal monicker? I spent 3 years in the NI when I was in the army, 2 in Waiouru and the last year I was all over the place as a batman/driver. It's different country up there, in fact I would call it sub-tropical in your neck of the wood and sub-antarctic across at Waiouru. Brrrrrr! Could you satisfy an old mans curiosity and tell me what a 'house detailer' does. I'm away behind the times here and haven't had occasion to keep up with modern professions and occupations.
Yeah Mark, there is still a lot of Scotish influence down here, and then as you get further south you are in Irish territory. It's very peacefull though as all the radicle stirrers seem to do all, or at least most of there stirring in the NI.
Cheers all, Bill. -
RE: Just to say "HI"
G'day Mark
and welcome to the forum. It's good to see another bod from down south has found the best group around. The answer to your question is a big YES. You'll read all about photo matching on page 161 of the Bible, that's what I call the 390 page SU Tutorial
You can download it, if you haven't already, from the Google SU site. You'll find plenty of mates here cobber and some proffesional funiture makers among them. Download the tutorial, pour yourself a beerand get reading and practising.
Well its Sat morning on the other side of the world so I dare say a few of the other lads and lasses will pop in to welcome you.
Cheers and Beers, Bill -

Wonderful, I didn't take enough notice of things when I went to school because I didn't have tuters like you fellows. Thanks from the Snow country.

RE: [Tutorial > Modeling] dome with pendents and latern
Thanks Gai, it is a fantastic tutorial and I learnt a lot from it. My projects can only get better thanks to you and the others that take the time and trouble to pass your knowledge on. Once again Thank you very much.
