That is genius pixero - I totally forgot about that method.
the only thing is that for some reason it scales at 1/10th scale but thats a really easy sort

hi
I'm having a problem flattening my cad import. Ive made faces but whatever I do I can't flatten this part of the road. Ive tried this app but still no joy.
any tips on this type of problem
hi,
I'm working on altering a seriously modelled site and I'm having to do some parts from stratch.
I know that when I'm importing in cad/dwg/dxf files to sketchup to model from I'm going to be spending some time tidying up stray lines and making faces (and I'm still learning the shortcuts to this)
however I've run into the specific problem of the cad file not coming in flat and surfaces coming in broken and I'm tearing my hair out over it.
Ive attached a file to show my problem but I've tried redrawing lines and draping onto a flat surface and the flatten plugins (though I don't think I'm using them properly) and nothing is working.
anyone know if there is a way to solve this?
also does anyone have any tips in general of how the speed up the cad file to sketchup 3d model (especially with site plans)?
many thanks all
Is this working with a mac now?
Thanks fredo
Though with the release of Thea version 2 it may be all change
I think it was listed somewhere that twilight render pro was compactable as well - whatâs your opinion on the results from that renderer?
I thought AmbientOcclusion was a straight so so renderer - whatâs specialised about it.
Once again itâs a great plugin
So I have a question (probably asked before)
Which rendering programs (plugins for sketchup or standalone rendered) are compatible with animator as of now?
Also out of this list of renderers which works best (in terms of looks, ease of use and glitches)
I own vray for sketchup but at the moment it doesnât sound like it has the best compatibility with animator. I donât know if sketchup users have one renderer for stills and another for animation as every rendering software has their individual strengths
Hi
Iâve actually been looking into how to do this for years but stupidly never asked and have never found a tutorial in books or online (or at least never took it in)
Do anyone know how to make an original sketchup style file from scratch?
I know that you can you use the style builder for the lines but what about textures, colour scheme, etc....
and how can you save the finish product as a style file that others can download.
Using the following site page as an example
http://www.sketchupartists.org/2014/09/styles-collection-2015/
and focusing on the âLight Pencil Overlay with Watercolor Washâ style you can download - how could you recreate that style and save as a style file from start to finish?
There looks like there is a watercolour paint background overlay and a texture pencil stroke overlay for sketchup content and the colours of the model are muted down/prehaps blurred but Iâm not sure and I certainly donât know the process of how the author managed to create this style
I know that there are many photoshop post production ways to get the âartist impressionâ effect but it be great to have another method
Thanks in advance
I've just tried redrawing the arch from scratch just doing my own measurements and no joy
thought perhaps my outer building walls had gotten corrupt/weren't straight but still problems
so I can't even find a work around and have no clue how to solve this - my progress is basically halted
hi
I'm creating a house from a colleague's dwg 2d drawing - I usually draw from scratch using the cad for dimensions only but for some things didn't match up to each other no matter how many times I measured so I had to import in the original cad for some things.
I know that cad files seems to come with its own errors which is why I avoid exporting them in when possible but sometimes it is unavoidable.
I am trying to paste the window detail onto the building face and Im hitting feel problems. I went into the cad drawing group in sketchup. made the faces I needed to use solid, copy and pasted the window detail outside the cad group made sure everything was in the same layer and mad it into a group. then I positioned it in position on my house wall and exploded group. however only some of the lines cut the face and copying and repasting surfaces isn't working
I've tried draping the window detail, the intercept feature and download the flatten to plane plugin (though I can't locate that plugin in my menu?)
Is there a way to correct this?
I've attached an example file below
Thank you in advance
I redone 2 of my 3 animations in 45fps which seems to have solved the smoothness issue touch wood.
The 3rd animation is being redone now so I should know for sure soon
Is it normal for a 2min 45fps animation to take 3-5 hrs to process into video format?
Fortunately I have both a laptop and desktop mac- and both pretty powerful so the time itâs taking seems excessive
Could I ask a question?
Love the plugin fredo - looks harder to use than it actually was so that was good news
I'm making a few 60sec videos to show my boss a new way of presenting work. My settings was set at 20fps and speed of 0.75.
However when playing the mov/MP4 file created I get a stutter every second or 2 - making it a bit unwatchable.
Anyone come by the same problem?
I can't post the video on the forum but I can private message it to anyone who think they can help.
I'm trying one now at 45fps - seeing if that makes a difference
There is a option to use QuickTime screen record to record a window once I've made the animater plugin film which will take a lot much less time to process but will take up much more mb- so perhaps not a solution
im pretty sure I purged all the unused (could of missed something though) - I did the model info purge and also used thom Thoms plugin to ease a little more out
texture wise I used those preloaded on sketchup and a few from https://www.sketchuptextureclub.com (I did rotate a few textures as they looked a little odd in their current position - I don't know if that of made a difference)
I don't know what the average persons model size is - I never thought that a 16mb sketchup file was considered to be large but obviously I'm very wrong (though I would of thought that the mobile viewer would of been able to handle at least 20mb models well - I hope Trimble will release a version in the future that will be able to do so.
Thank you Dave, that is terribly kind of you - did you private message me details ? - I'll check now
hi
I've been trying to view a model using sketchup viewer on my iPad Pro 2 which I want to use to show my future employer my models - however the viewer is suggesting the model is too large (no scenes have been added yet but they would need to be) and when moving/rotating model the movement is laggy and I lose my material textures and all structure on my trees (I get the component box outline) making it unusable for presentation purposes.
I've purged the model and managed to reduce it from 25mb to 16.5mb and I tried deleting off the trees but that only got rid of another 1.2mb so it doesn't like like that is the issue (plus my employer wants to see the house in contest with the trees so they have to stay.
the dance centre test model that comes preloaded with sketchup mobile viewer looks relatively complex (equal or more so then what I've done) with many scenes included but is only 2.35mb so there is obviously a way to reduce model sizes down.
Any help you could give with this would be great (I haven't attached the model as the cad files used to make it aren't mine so I don't want the share the model publicly - I will share privately to individuals who want to take a look and see if they see something I don't - hope you all understand)
Thank you all
Hi,
I'm getting back into the architecture and general design fields after a long time out and I was wondering if I could ask the people on this forum who use sketchup at work and/or freelancing a general question.
How quickly can you model things on average? (I know it's very 'how long is a piece of string' type question to ask how long you take to model a project so perhaps mention what a typical project is for you for reference - perhaps attach a low res pic)
It's a weird question I know but I've been given some elevations/floor plans of a 3 bed house to turn into a sketchup model and I won't mention how much time I've spent so far as I'm a bit embarrassed (though I will shave a lot of time in the future once I make dynamic components for windows/doors instead of making them from scratch)
I kind of got into a cold sweat of people putting videos on YouTube of them modelling a house in 1-2hrs and would like to know if this is the norm
Thanks
oh my goodness, I think I got it to work - I deleted a few of the guidelines and zoomed out - not the prettiest looking object but it does the job
thank you for sparing the time to help
the key seems to be to note where the blue/purple dots appear and keep guides to a minimum
well I'm getting a solid line but my arc isn't happening - its either a mess or something like the attachment
thank you dave - ill see if that works now
think that my guides were drawn wrong so I redraw I but now I have the problem that the ellipses round is made up of many little lines not the one line which is a tad of a problem when trying to use jointpushpull on the cylinder surface
sorry just done it now
Ive been using a separate group with lines as a guide.
Ive been using the ellipse tool instead of the arc as the arc tool will not draw a solid line.
the plan is once the 4th ellipse is drawn to delete the above area then delete the Bottom of the ellipse lines (first time I did this I did a few of the measurements wrong so I know it works I just need to do it again)
thank you all in advance
Sorry I'm still having no joy with the arc
I've been using the ellipse tool instead. But even that is hit and miss. The tools don't always draw on the surface and draw weirdly on the x or y axis instead. I seem to get success when a purple dots show up but more often then not it's the red star for the intersection.
I'd love to sing the praises of this plugin because it's a great concept but I need help to get it working properly
