I'm having more and more problems with SU. Another problem that I never had before and that has just reappeared: I extrude a surface, enter the value, but the final extrusion is the one I dragged with the mouse.
Or, what has just happened again, too: I draw a rectangle, enter the dimensions, but it is not fixed.

RE: 18 instead of 1,8
Doesn't anyone really know how to solve this problem? I presume I'm not the only Mac user who is interested in the dynamic components in SU.
It's pretty stupid that I can't use this interesting function.
If only the unit was at least the mm. I don't understand what drove the developers to set the cm as the unit, contrary to custom (when you create a new sheet from a template, it is either in inches or in mm, but not in cm! -
18 instead of 1,8
Hi,
If I enter "=Beute!Wandstaerke" which is 1,8cm, in LenY under Aussenwand1 in the attached file "Formula", 18 is displayed instead of 1,8 (see attached file "Result")
Please note: I work on a Mac where the decimal separator is the comma. How can I solve this problem?
Kind regards

RE: Measuring no longer possible
You will not see the problem because it doesn't exist anymore if one reopens the file.

RE: Measuring no longer possible
"Please correct your forum profile then."
ok
"Is it just the tooltip for the Tape Measure tool that isn't showing?"
The mouse cursor took the form of the measure tools, but when I placed it at one end and dragged it to the other, nothing happened.
"Can you show what you are seeing?"
Only the next time it will happen again, but iin reality there is nothing to show: you will only see the icon of the tool. I would have to record the action as a video, and I don't know how to do that.
"Do you have Guides turned off in the View menu?"
No
"Generally don't use measure - use pencil instead"
Why not use the measure tool? That's what it's there for!
And as written, this applies to both measure tools. If I measure a length and I want the result to be retained, I can only use the tool in question. -
RE: Measuring no longer possible
I closed the file and opened it again, and I could measure again. Then the problem occurred again, which I was able to avoid by closing and reopening a second time.

Measuring no longer possible
Hello,
Recently I can no longer take measurements in an SU file, with both tools..
Only when I paste the relevant parts into a new file can I measure them.
What could be the reason for this?
Kind regards

@Rich:
that's exactly what I did, but it didn't prevent exporting everything! -
RE: All parts are exported as .stl instead of only the selected
Update---
Only when I first saved and closed SU, then restarted, reopened the sheet with the pasted part and exported as .stl, all ghost parts were gone and only the one in question was exported.
But as I said, this is a makeshift solution, it should also be possible to export only the selected part from a sheet with several parts. -
All parts are exported as .stl instead of only the selected
Hello,
I have drawn several parts in Sketchup and exported one of them for 3d printing as .stl with the option that only the selected part is exported, but in reality all existing parts are exported.
Exploding all groups into individual components before exporting does not change this.
I have thought of copying the part in question and copying it to a new SU sheet as a workaround, but even then all the other parts of the original sheet that were not copied are exported as well, which is incomprehensible as they do not exist!
Then I deleted all other parts in the original sheet, exported the remaining one, and again the deleted parts are also exported! How is this possible?
What am I doing wrong? What is the solution?
Kind regards -
RE: Access the characters individually
Sorry, that was a lapsus pennae, and it is evident that it can't make any sense; of course it should read: "Unfortunately, the letters cannot be extruded".
"You can edit the component and trace edges with the Line tool"
Unfortunately, there are not only straight lines, and the curves are not regular. I'll see how easy it is to do in Inkscape.
What I don't understand: how could there be faces in a drawing that is flat and where there are only lines? -
RE: Access the characters individually
My cars are nearly always in the garage, and when they are out, I hope not to loose the key.
And you can also look at it another way: if someone found it, with the key ring, and handed it in to the lost property office, you could identify the owner, me!
Unfortunately, the extruded letters cannot be extruded.
-
RE: Access the characters individually
Your objection is of course pertinent, but it's more of a gimmick, and whether I'll ever hang the parts on the keys is a moot point!
I have found the font here:I don't know if it's available as truetype

Access the characters individually
Hello,
I would like to 3d print and/or mill my licecar plates as a key fob. After a long search, I found the right font, traced the bitmap in Inkscape and imported it into SU, but all the characters hang together.
How can I access the individual characters in the attached file? Separating them into individual parts has not worked.
Is it possible in SU or should I have done it in Inkscape?Font.skpKind regards

RE: A scaled down object still has the original length
Yes, if I right click I get those items
-
RE: A scaled down object still has the original length
I restarted at 0, created a rectangle of 50 * 10 mm, extruded it to 4 mm, then made an offset on the top from which I extruded the 1mm high border instead of drawing it directly in the sketch, which then probably led to the internal faces, placed the stars and the characters (absent in the posted file) on the layer bounded by the border, and the slicer no longer has a problem with it.
I can't find the menu item in the German SU synonymous with Scale definition so as the three items above it. They don't exist.

RE: A scaled down object still has the original length
Thank you very much!
That is rather complicated; I have to study it.
