Just purchased this plugin (on the off-chance that I may actually understand and be able to use it ๐Ÿ˜† ), BUT...

when I went to download it I got the following warning
        [attachment=0:3c70rdjo]<!-- ia0 -->2016-01-05_112759.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:3c70rdjo]

        evilsoftwareempire.com??????

I haven't downloaded it yet, am understandably reluctant to do so until I hear that it is indeed safe.

Haha! What a nice combo. Yea, that's my site. ๐Ÿ˜„ I needed to split out the extensions from my personal website, so I set up this one. Tongue and cheek name. ๐Ÿ˜›

The warning from your AV is probably because it's a new binary file and filename that it's never heard of. If you obtained it from the website it should be good.

Btw, what AV are you using? Is there is way for you to report false positives?

            Thanks for the replies.

I have downloaded and installed the plugin. I have also checked out some of the documentation, manual, videos, etc. Looks like another one well beyond my very limited capabilities ๐Ÿ˜’

            Oh well.

It was McAfee Web Advisor that flagged the download. I don't know about flagging false positives, I just installed it a few weeks ago. Normally I avoid anything to do with McAfee but decided to give this one a try.

I am very cautious about what I download, your website name didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Hi there, for those who have installed the plugin can answer to this curiosity I have?

Do this works as the subdivision function as in other 3D modelling programs? I mean, to obtain circular shapes you work basically with hexagons or preferably octagons, in addition you need to take care about quads, in the understanding that faces should be in four sides to get the best models, do this plugin works like that? If so, can someone post a sample please?

                Kind regards everyone!

SUbD uses Catmull-Clark algorithm for subdividing - which is very common. The same "rules" apply to SUbD as in other quad-based modellers with subdivision.

One way would be to use a hexagonal or octagonal approximation and subdivide that.
There are some nice topology examples over at this Tumble account: http://topology-guides.tumblr.com/

Another way is to use creasing, you can make a cylinder with inly a cube if you want. A cube will approximate to a sphere eventually - and you can crease the top and bottom to make a cylinder:
                  SUbD-Smoothing.gif

The latter will probably require more subdivision and create a denser mesh - the former might save you some polygons in the end at the expense of a little more work up front.

On some applications the subdivision is applied only in the viewport at render time - but in SketchUp, as an extension - SUbD needs to generate actual entities. So you might want to avoid too many subdivision levels to avoid dense meshes slowing down your model.

I usually prefer a combo, of rather low-poly and creasing to tweak details.
