Your Ideas for SketchUp 2014

Small question about the clipping plane issue :
If it's resolved and we can zoom in forever on details, how can we zoom in through a face ? Like you zoom out and get stuck inside au volume, curently you zoom in to get to the other side of the face. It wouldn't be possible any more.

3. Select by material should operate on "No / Default material". It does not do that now and that too is another big surprise to me...Yes, I wish this worked too.

And for myself, why TSU 13 does not run with Snow Leopard?
not sure exactly but I do use two other applications which are lion and up so it seems more on the apple side of things as to why this is happening

That's a good point - I hadn't thought of that. Maybe we need a camera collision option that can be turned on or off depending on whether you need clipping.

While I think that is a great idea (and resolves the UX problem of zooming in vs. jumping through a face), I believe someone would weigh in that then people would start pushing the "small details frontier" (as already the polycount frontier).

Are people posting their suggestions in this thread also posting in the thread of the link in the original post?

- Make Linux-version.
- Support x64 and multi-core processors.

Just dawned on me watching both threads that maybe it is me, I want stuff that most folk do not, like better UV tools, more poly's, quads, etc.
Gonna have to give Blender a real go.
Or MODO

Implementing true arcs and circles would be a real game-changer,
but would it be possible?Enable Excel to read SU directly (and OpenOffice etc.) - autocad can do this but it's a pita. Few other CADs have this.
OR put an integrated worksheet into SU to enable .excel-like analysis. Oh and make sure it can handle real job-size projects - a large planting plan can easily involve 500,000 plants.
AND/OR better support for component export to enable analysis in other programs, for instance counting plants - this IS possible, but lacking true-circles even the simplest symbol becomes a multitude of triangles (within a symbol) and needs cleaning up.
Seconding an option to have LO integrated into SU or at least open the api (as noted above) - maybe there could be two versions? or a way to completely switch LO off to free up resources for SU.
Also I do not know if 2013 LO has implemented this, but in SU8 LO it was not possible to have a symbol at different rotations on different LO pages, e.g. The North arrow.
Fix the thousands of toolbars in registry issue that we all have to deal with.
Fix plane clipping! - a bit of a passion-killer when you're doing a live present! The ability to parse a feed from surveying equipment - from total stations to hand-held laser distance meters - to enable real-time site drawings. This could/would also enable SU to show dynamic info such as sensor data as a 3D field.
At the moment SU works well for me, but Rhino and Formz are improving all the time and when they have my point 2 above and improved their LO equivalents I will probably switch.

Why do we have a second 2014 wishlist thread now?!?
(even the first one is too much, when i see how many requests of the SU9 thread made it into the 2013 release... relabel the SU9 thread to 2014 and we're done!)
btw. how can i post a request in the google thread? By clicking on "Click here to Reply" below JB's post or "Me, too!" or "Post a question"? Very unclear system over there...
-
This isn't a wishlist
The SU9 wishlist was for 2013 so why are you looking for that?
-
yes, i know... but it looks like it's becoming a wishlist now

i meant you can just rename it, because the content, the requests in the new thread will be almost the same... 99,9% of the wishes in the SU9/2013 thread haven't been fulfilled in the 2013 release so i think the "new" wishes will be the old ones...
-
To be honest who reads through pages wishes?
We should use proper polling and surveys.
I'll look into it.
My point here is if you want to speak to SU Boss you'll need to use their forums.

or as Pixero suggests

What if Sketchucation did a petition with a few most wanted requests that we can agree on and all member who wants can "sign his name" on it?
Might be interesting to see what actual numbers we can get to vote.I think that if we do it this way we would keep the integrity of this SketchUcation Forum
Not dividing as to where is it the best place to post . -

That's been fixed in SU2013 when they replaced the toolbar system.

@ Malaga Juan
Is not that what I suggested in my previous post?
An in-house poll/survey for members with the results visible to SU Team members if they want it?
We are now looking at various add-ons for the site to enable proper surveys/polls to be added with better means of display info than the current forum poll (which is pretty crude).

I came to the exact same conclusions, and Modo is exactly where I've been once I ran out of caring about SketchUp 9 -- and I'm not regretting the decision at all.
For the record I refuse to participate in any more SketchUp wishlist events, and especially in anything "darling" is involved in... they know exactly what is wrong and have known for many years, but they choose to ignore it.
Best,
Jason. -
No offense Jason, but I think we get it. You don't want SU any more and you found better softwares. You don't need to post in every single thread to tell us about your personal feeling.
You don't like SU, or where SU is heading, or SU's team. Ok, so be it. Here it's SketchUcation, we come here to discuss about SU, not your feelings.
I don't have any problem with people giving their thoughts about SU, but you did plenty of time, and you're just repeating yourself. You found greener grass, move on
