I don't know but I would imagine Profile Builder would allow you to do that.

PB wouldn't account for openings or rather you'd have to work around every opening yourself.

Dave--your signature-- are you competing with Boo for the worst groaners? actually it's not a pun but REALLY! πŸ˜’

I didn't know Boo had a groaner for a signature. I didn't think anyone ever read my signature anyway. Is it really that bad? πŸ˜„

Profile builder is great but it doesn't quite automate what I need. 1001 bit tools has a really cool louver feature that could accomplish this but the parameters aren't there to allow for claps.

So now you've got me wondering about the possibility of a script that would be a modification of Follow Me that could detect a gap and jump it with the extrusion. Or suppose an opening such as a door or window was read by the script as a box that would be used as a "cutter" for the extrusion. That cutter could then cut through just part of the extrusion as might happen at the top and bottom of the window opening. I could imagine other applications for a plugin of this sort.

Peter, I agree with you that Boo is the "pun king". πŸ˜„

I wish I was as smart as you guys and could right scripts. If you know someone on the forums that could help put somethign like this together, I am sure it would be a huge hit. I am just sick of how flat jpeg textures render and I really dont like to use displacement for this type of application.

I wish I was smart enough to write scripts, too. Maybe TIG or ThomThom or someone will see this and take up the challenge.

TIG's Extrude edges by vector to faces will stop at intermediate obstructions (in this case the necessary trim around openings) but it won't start again. How does it tell when it should fill an area or not (such as the recessed spaces inside an opening)? Has to be based on the face defining the wall.

Thank you, Thomas. Yes, you're probably right about me not having the time to learn to do it. Maybe one day.

I don't know how you can look at yourself in the mirror, Dave.

But on topic, a script or dynamic component etc that could do space filling physical patterns would be very useful. Roof tiles/shingles, metal roof panels, board and batten siding, bricks, anything repetitive. The ideal would obviously 'just work' when the face changed size or shape, just as pattern filling does now.
I can sort of see vague hints of the technique floating in the aether but I don't have anything like the available time to even try a simple example. And a really clever one is certainly beyond me right now.

1001 bit tools has a couple of tools that are so close (Horizontal Groove Lines and Louver tools) but it needs a little tweaking to be used for claps.

Yes, I can see where such a script would definitely be a hit. Just got the older version of Housebuilder working (with no beeping?). Such a plugin would compliment it tremendously.
