      I think it's a neater divide function he's after?

Grid sub-d might look neater visually, but functionally won't work well for many things where they need triangualtion.

my big concern is that when using sketchup and having a square shape with a round cutout. Sketchup has poor mesh handling so when I use displacement there is that strong possibility of geometric artifacts (i.e. elongated displacement geometry where if based off of a grid the artifacts would be less likely to distort geometry) I'll try and render up a example later today.

As far as the grid I was just looking at the "grid" to be triangulated, within sketchup the square is divided when exported into two triangles. so essentially it still maintains the triangulation as opposed to quad faces. Please forgive me if I've got something wrong, again I'm in no way knowledgeable in how the software actually functions.

oh and why artisan? its because out of all the plugins out there it has the most promise of what I was hoping for and It has a ton of other awesome features that I'll be buying it for πŸ˜„

For this displacement thing it is true. I have also realised it when first learning it. The more "squarish" your subdivision is, the better it will perform after the (still necessary) triangulation and subdivision in the rendering app.

It's part of why I asked the purpose of the subdivision, because the grid style he illustrated would not yield in triangles, but odd-shaped faces.

                Hello,

                Also can't wait till the twenty-eight πŸŽ‰
I was wondering, does Artisan totally replaces sds1 or does it ad extras to sds1?
Do I need to keep sds1 in my pluginsfolder or is it complete redundant after installing artisan?

                Thanks

Although I - for some strange and bizarre reasons - haven't been invited to be a part of the beta-test group πŸ’š I'd say that Artisan completely replaces sds1...
From what I've seen in some of the threads and tutorials in the Organic Modelling section, you'll get LOTS of extra bells and whistles... πŸ˜„

I'd assume that you can drop SDS1 completely...
From what I've seen so far, Artisan can do everything sds1 can + MUCH, MUCH more...
I have sds1 and will throw it in the bin as soon as I get my hands on Artisan...
(I really see no reason why I should keep it... In my view it'll just be clocking up my plug-ins folder, which I want to keep as clean as possible...)

                  Cheers

SDS2 has all the tools that SDS1 has so there's no real reason to keep that IMO.

Anyway, I added the [Plugin] tag to the subject so that during the next update, it will be listed in the plugin index.

I did not want to go further with modifying the post but you may wish to add a line or two that it has been released and where it can be accessed.
