SketchUp 2015 is 64bit

It's exactly the same as it's always been. You can have multiple versions installed and one license doesn't affect the other. They are entirely separate installations.
Thanks!

Hi - Any advice on whether V-Ray 2.0 is compatible with 2015? Want to make sure before I upgrade and wipe out our rendering capability!
Might be worth getting in touch with the V-ray people and get the information from the source.
And as has been pointed out, you can run both side by side. Which means even if Vray doesn't yet work with 2015 you can still model in it and render in 2014.

Congratulations SU team. This is a huge advancement for SketchUp. I was getting so frustrated with the software but now it's onwards and upwards I guess.
-
Guess you have to go get it 'manually'?

Not sure you'll get a message from the "Update" as this is an "UpGrade"...

Yes, for the moment. We typically wait a day or two to make sure everything is running smoothly before turning on the update service in previous versions.

Thanks, that makes sense.
Spoke to Chaosgroup and they're working on a free update for release as soon as possible.

I think it has to be recompiled to 64 bit. At least the Maxwell plugin needs an update...

The SketchUp description of 64 bit says: "The exception to this 32-bit status is that SketchUp for Windows has been built with an exception to allow 64-bit memory usage which allows SketchUp to use more than 4 Gb of RAM."
http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000069
DO you think the second use of the word exception is a mistake, or do you think SketchUp found a way to create a "pseudo" 64-bit - which uses more memory, but isn't really recompiled for 64 bits?
-
@Al, if you read the prominent notice at the top of the page...
NOTICE: SketchUp 2015 is here! When you look at this Knowledge Center article, be sure to pick "SketchUp 2015" from the red box above to see the 2015 version of that content. If there is no version picker, this content applies to all versions of SketchUp.I think you will find your looking at v2014...

Why would plugins need to be recompiled then? And that would mean Mac was not 64 bit at all?

You're looking at the wrong version of the article--for 2014 instead of 2015. Go back to that article and read the bright red warning at the top that tells you to use the dropdown menu to change to the 2015 article. Then you'll see what you'd expect.
SketchUp 2015 x64 is absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, compiled for native 64-bit execution. The exception message was in regard to 2013 and 2014.

Al, you are looking at the 2014 version of the Knowledge Center. The sentence you quoted is refering to the 32bits versions of SU making use of the "large memory address" flag, which allow 32bits applications to use a bit more than 3GB of RAM on 64bits systems.
EDIT: Whow, I'm slow!

Thanks Andrew - I had seen the warning - but still I assumed I was in the right place, since I had gotten there by clicking on the link in the SketchUp 2015 What's new article.
Reading the proper page will be much more informative!

is it just me (and my pc) or there isnt any noticable improvement in UI navigation performance with heavier models?
its faster to open and save, but i was hoping to be able to work on high poly models with a 64bit version, but the navigation speed seems the same as with 2014 32bit...
nevertheless, im glad that sketchup is moving to 64bit
-
I think they forgot to test on a Quadro, it's really buggy with nVidia saying sketchup ran out of memory on a blank/fresh scene. Also dragging the window around results in very sluggish program. Hopefully nvidia updates their drivers.

64bit is not faster than 32bit - and can be even slower in some cases - but it enables you to address more RAM and work with bigger files. And navigation speed is not related to RAM size, but only to CPU speed (single threaded) and GPU speed (which is less important in SU).
-
hmmm i see... but with other software like Cinema 4D i can produce high poly scenes without it ever slowing down... (navigation wise)
i thought it had to do with C4D being 64bit, and was hoping to work with high poly models in SU 2015, but it still bogs down
even so there are some other new features that i like and will come in handy
-
My large models are definitely moving and rotating fast and without going into wire mode.
