yeah, i've never used color by axis but apparently, it's not very accurate..
according to those colors, it's coplanar but once you check it, it's not.

Cheers guys, so the "colour by axis", is pretty pointless then? 😳

Did you make any amendments, Rich?

Yes, the bottom of the 'L' shaped hole had 2 edges?

                Did it?! Bugger. πŸ˜„

Thanks to you both, Rich and TIG.

I've stripped it back to the dxf file and started again anyway. I went through half a bottle of white trying to fix that!

I have run into these stubborn faces. I erased most of the lines around the opening and re-drew them. Attached is a Jing SWF video showing what I did. Something must have been doubled up and no doubt one of the lines did'nt intersect properly??

                    ..

Not that mysterious though, TIG. Lee should only move one edge (the longest vertical one) slightly forward.
This will get it in plane with the other edges like the (upside down) L-shape (red+blue).

One may get tricked here by the top red edge(s!!). For in fact there are two almost collinear edges within tolerance, showing red. It looks like just one.
In his original model move the endpoint which is somewhere in the middle of that top edge, to see this. You will see sort of a triangle getting formed.

(The 'Teape Measure' tool shows which endpoint(s) is/are how much out of plane. It's both endpoints of the longer vertical edge).
