Render this: SSS
-
I started with the Twilight SSS template (Wax I think), then I made some extra changes in KT to produce this material. I was really surprised how it turned out; I really like it.
-
Coca-cola version. Just a Kerkythea material.
-
Another try with Kerkythea. I didn't let it cook for more than a couple minutes as I'm preparing another one.
-
Guys I am really impressed with varied and good output. Seems all unbiased are doing really well, but I am very impressed with Vray/Max combo and Vue.

Wow guys, great renders you're pulling out. I'm really liking this thread.
But can i ask for the ones using twilight to, instead saying the number of the preset, can you say the method of render?like photon mappping, ppt, mtp, bpt, etc etc etc. Just to compare results and see how diferent methods afect the materials in the final image. Thanksavariant
Great material and render. Is that MLT? -
Thanks, Sid.
DacaD, in Twilight, presets Easy 01-07 use Photon Mapping. Easy 08 use Progressive Path Tracing. Easy 09 is MLT. Easy 10 is BiPT-MLT.
I liked Remus' blue rubber dragon so much that here's my attempt to have an Aerogel dragon in Kerkythea:
-
I'm still having some trouble making a decent render in kerkythea. The dragon I tried looked great but I don't think it was sss.
I downloaded some sss materials from the KT website, coke, red, blue, yellow and gum. I am using the the three backlights and the front light suggested by Pete (with MLT) but I can't get the sss light changing direction thingy. Just a well lit dragon. (which I like and the software is free.)
Could someone post some KT settings for a sss dragon? It would be very helpful if the comparison settings were shown for Vray vs KT and the matching images to see how the two systems compare.
Great renders in this thread!
thanks!

joining you here... using translucent material vray sketchup.. which the equivalent of SSS
-
TBG, I gave up trying to achieve SSS in Kerkythea, too; I do most of my renders in Twilight, which uses the same engine. My last blue dragon in Kerkythea is literally filled with air; it's just fog. Here are my settings. I scaled the dragon a lot (it is around 30m long) so the fog would become visible.
-
My attempt on the dragon...Thanks for starting this thread, Pete, I've learned so much and the subjects are so fun that I'm really excited to render them ...oh, and the amazing images are an incentive as well
Twilight Render, White Wax Library material I think, #10 preset - I stopped cooking after 8 hours (this SSS is killing my poor laptop)
Say, is there a way to change the library colors in Twilight, or to I have to do that in Kerkythea?
-
you can change templates but not library.....but im sure u can change library in kerkythea, maybe im wrong. and yes sss is very slow
-
These are fun, and some excellent renders as well as some great learning.
We may not need SSS on a daily basis, but on the off chance we do, we now have learned how it can be achieved.
So we have covered studios, SSS, what next you ask....Keep an eye out for the next learning challenge, one a little more relevant.

LED lighting?
Neon signs?
Water?
Vegetation? (Vue wins. End of thread) -
vegetation...
+1clip maps
3d vs 2.5d vs 2d

LED lighting?
My vote goes to this. I've been trying to render LEDs many times, without luck. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&p=157487

Thomas, I promise to make that the next challenge, do you have a great model to share?
Or should I make one? -
hm... "great" ... meh!
I made a model of an LED. Attached that one - you can have a look.
And I also attached the space invader scene.

had this one going for about and hour.. had to stop it as i need the resources for something a tad more important
