A couple of lazy attempts with just Twilight library materials:

          Milk:

And blue gum. Indigo and Maxwell beat Twilight big time when it comes to blue gum/rubber. 😞

What the $@#* am I doing wrong?

I've read the manual, I've followed the tuts. All that's left is to remove the mallet from my ass and beat myself with it

Rich, here is my setup, see I have 3 lights behind and one in front, I rendered using preset #9

I used the studio setup, painted black, I have no sun and a black background.

Fantastic renders, guys! This is so cool 😎

Using Twilight, I also had the same problem as Rich, I started using the Low and Medium presets and it was taking forever, but I'm getting much better results after switching to #10 - Interior+ (but not good enough to post here yet)

Very interesting thread........thanks for starting this.I've just started working with Twilight and rendering in general.Keep in mind I'm a carpenter, not a graphic artist so any breach of rendering etiquette is purely unintentional. This is what I came up with....not sure it meets any of the sss criteria but it sure was fun trying.

Twilight Render's Easy 09 preset should be enough; Easy 10 enables color dispersion and some other special FX, however.

I made two more tries: One with Easy 09 and another one with Easy 10. I stacked them together:
                        dragon-eyes-stacked.jpg

And then added some airbrush to the eyes and altered the curves a little bit in GIMP:
                        dragon-eyes-postpro.jpg

Hey, Pete, how about "Emitters and LEMs" for the next "Render this"?

I started with the Twilight SSS template (Wax I think), then I made some extra changes in KT to produce this material. I was really surprised how it turned out; I really like it.

Wow guys, great renders you're pulling out. I'm really liking this thread.
But can i ask for the ones using twilight to, instead saying the number of the preset, can you say the method of render?like photon mappping, ppt, mtp, bpt, etc etc etc. Just to compare results and see how diferent methods afect the materials in the final image. Thanks

DacaD, in Twilight, presets Easy 01-07 use Photon Mapping. Easy 08 use Progressive Path Tracing. Easy 09 is MLT. Easy 10 is BiPT-MLT.

I liked Remus' blue rubber dragon so much that here's my attempt to have an Aerogel dragon in Kerkythea:

I'm still having some trouble making a decent render in kerkythea. The dragon I tried looked great but I don't think it was sss.

I downloaded some sss materials from the KT website, coke, red, blue, yellow and gum. I am using the the three backlights and the front light suggested by Pete (with MLT) but I can't get the sss light changing direction thingy. Just a well lit dragon. (which I like and the software is free.)

Could someone post some KT settings for a sss dragon? It would be very helpful if the comparison settings were shown for Vray vs KT and the matching images to see how the two systems compare.

                                        Great renders in this thread!

                                        thanks!

TBG, I gave up trying to achieve SSS in Kerkythea, too; I do most of my renders in Twilight, which uses the same engine. My last blue dragon in Kerkythea is literally filled with air; it's just fog. Here are my settings. I scaled the dragon a lot (it is around 30m long) so the fog would become visible.
