blruuska, Like I wrote Jim. I want to make copies within the parent component and I would like to have the true size of the parent so that I can reference other groups/components to e.g. Parent!LenX. Put currently if I make copies I see that the components is different in size but this is not reflected in Parent!LenX. The size stays the same and once I start scalling it is all over the place.

@woodoer said: Now I am really curious. Pray tell me what the brick wall might look like? ok.. i guess that depends on what you meant when you said "I'm starting to understand how creative we can be with this tool" the problem is that you're limited to shapes which can be manipulated using only the scale tool and limited parts of the move tool (the part where you can select an entire group then move or rotate it as one).. and there's only so much modeling you can accomplish with only that.. with dynamic components, you're missing (very) important functions from the move tool for instance, you can't do this with a dynamic component.. you can only move the triangle around or change it's scale.. [image: jOnB_cant.jpg] there are workarounds to using the line tool.. (kinda crazy workarounds ) here are two experiments which show it.. the component on the left has an option to change # of arc segments.. so sometimes the component has 5 lines or it could have 25 etc.. DC_lines_example.skp the problem is, even though i've 'made' some new geometry, there's no way to easily or practically (definitely no way to do it from within dynamic components alone) form faces on them... but even the lack of a line tool would be ok.. in sketchup itself, with the proper starting geometry then only using the scale, move, and rotate tool (and select which you already have in dcs), you could start creating some very (very) cool shapes when run through a spreadsheet (DC).. taking away the ability to select an edge or vertex and move IT around seriously dampens what you can really do with a DC.. it boxes you in (creatively and literally.. draw boxes with DCs and you'll be a-ok.. don't confuse it by trying to do something crazy.. like draw an angle )

hmm.. i'm getting the same thing and i don't know why either.. this is probably something fredo should look at and you might want to post this model and explanation of the problem in the FredoScale thread.. i'll mess around with it a bit more to see if there's something obvious i've missed

@tinkerer said: So there is no way of just making sketchup write a text string in a certain position and direction? no.. you could do some stuff with OnClick Alert but then you have to click the component with the interact tool in order to view the text.. some sample files can be found here. http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=115750

Hi Jim, Thank you for a very nice Christmas gift! Been struggeling with this for a while now. ..I was close but missed on this part; =Parent!HevSenk+67.64 Thank you again and have a Merry Christmas to you and your family. Merry Christmas also to all followers in this thread!! @jim said: You will have better luck working outside-in, or top-down. Put the onClick animation at the highest logical level, and pass the animation attribute down to any components that need it. Attributes can only be "seen" by direct parents or children, so if you have more levels of components that need access to the animation attribute, you need to reference the attribute at each level. ` Top-Level Component OnClick(animate("anim", 0, 100) anim: 0 Child-Component anim: =Parent!anim Child-of-Child-Component anim: =Parent!anim`

Looks to be a bug in their OpenGL drawing where the correct colour isn't set.

Thank you TIG. I didn't think there was a way to hide the menu. But it wouldn't be the first time I missed something right in front of my face. Ken

Hi Pete, There isn't a DC function that I know of to test if an attribute exists. Maybe you could eliminate the IsCorner attribute, and use an "odd" value in CornerLength to indicate it is not a corner?

Set the imageURL attribute of the dynamic component. @unknownuser said: The ImageURL attribute contains a URL to a GIF, JPG, or PNG file on the Internet that you want to appear in the Component Options dialog box. For example, if ImageURL is equal to http://mysite.com/myimage.gif, then 'myimage.gif' image would appear, instead of the SketchUp-generated thumbnail, inside the Component Options dialog box.

Just a note to add. There is a bug. DC units show as imperial if 'Display unit format' is unchecked in model info>units even if the model template is metric.

CamnCam, See this DC that I created a while ago, it may give you some help: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=21350 ........ I suspect that the real problem you may be having is with the framed object corners ??? ie You want to change the overall size of the frame eg make it taller or wider but at the same time keep the frame members a regular size eg 50 x 50 ??? ......... One trick is to use some hidden cubes / rectangles in the corners + some lines on a layer that you hide eg Give a Layer the name "Hide" etc or hide some geometry. .......... See DC above .......... Hope this helps. Howard L'

No. Why? A possible solution would be to rotate a child component that has the texture applied.
