Dear Taff, Many thanks for the links. I have a small interest in solar heat and power as I have a friend who runs a business installing solar powered hot water systems (http://www.oxfordecobuild.co.uk/). I introduced him to Sketchup, for which he was grateful. I also have a colleague at the Clarendon Laboratory working on a wind power project, but one with a twist, in that it stores energy as hot water for domestic use. Kind regards, Bob

I presume you are talking about creating solids? You can type in the dimensions first or resize the objects after you have drawn them. To type them in first you need to type into the "keyboard entry" box. See image 1. OR To resize afterwards click on the modify tab and change the dimensions of the shape that you have already created. See image 2. Better still, save yourself the headache of Max and just use Sketchup! [image: 2dwn_max1.jpg] [image: NJt1_max2.jpg]

@pbacot said: But Ron, the conservatives hear more leftist media and the liberals hear more right-wing media. Depends where you sit. I agree this is the tendency. View the main stream media through an objective lens (hard to do, I know, but possible) and you'll see a distinct and not so subtle bias to the left. Notice the adjectives, the number of times an individual or entity is described as "conservative" or "right-wing" versus "liberal" or "left-wing", the body language. Think Dan Rather. Walter Cronkite, a liberal, didn't broadcast his bias. Nobody knew, or cared, what his politics were. I am striving for true objectivity and honesty in how I regard American politics.

Passive solar was bigger it seems, in the 70's. Most designs make for an unusual house type and living styles, but some common sense will help any design. Problems include control of glare and overheating, and providing clear surfaces for absorption (if you are trying to have direct solar gain through windows). I recently saw a trombe wall in a new upscale house. Pretty unusual. So on my second comment above, the obstacle is: are you going to sell a client who already just wants a conventional house with a good floor plan. I think it's a gradual process of acceptance. That's why we have green building tours, to show some great houses that have various features, if not extensive direct passive solar.

I've heard Nader. He makes more sense now than he ever has. My guy is Bob Barr, but you never hear him. He's the Rodney Dangerfield of politics; doesn't get any respect. Nader IS an interesting chap, indeed!!

Cornel, thanks again, printing from CMYK mode made a big improvement, a few tweaks and I should have the quality that I'm trying to achieve. Mike

@unknownuser said: I think you might want to have it visible and only allow new members if another member known to you will vouch for them. But to not see it at all is going a little overboard. I think an idea like that is very good. I have seen a lot of forums where most of the users are say, under 15, And one of the biggest problems with such websites are arguments. Or at best "Heated Discussions". So how will that be kept under control without all the junior members feeling that the "Adults" are being mean? I still think the whole idea is great though.

I'm certainly no fan of John McCain, but that video is so obviously faked/badly edited, it serves his campaign better than the Democrats'! At one point you clearly hear the start and end of a word that is subtitled as "f*cking" and it neither starts with "f" nor ends with "ng". I think it's safe to say I don't share Ron's political stance, but I completely understand why this topic got his heckles up: blatant lies and faked footage from either side really annoy me too- it's hard enough to discuss and debate different viewpoints and issues without fake "evidence" circulating, undermining the integrity of both of our arguments.

There are different levels of "norms" in society - law being only one of them; although it is the ultimate one (even within law criminal law being the "most ultimate" if you can say something like that). Ethics ("morals" - after the Latin "mos" which had serious impact on their lives) or even courtesy are also relevant norms in our societies and they can differ even more than law systems can (what's more, often they are even more powerful!) Not everthing should be governed by law (and especially by criminal law) hence there are "Ethic Codes" for a lot of professions for instance and yes, these ethic codes should also have impacts before the "outsiders" (lawyers) interfere. It is very hard to (literally; "legally") judge two people's emotional relationship. If a professor (doctor, boss, Ross etc.) is abusing his (her!) authority then yes, indeed, there should be legal consequences but if the relationship is true (like Alan said things like that somewhere above), other means should prevail. Indeed, it is a very slippery field... (Sorry for the bad pun, Ross - I could't resist )

She can hunt like Cheney did. It's all set up to save time and reduce challenge. They dump some confused birds in front of you and you shoot them... or shoot your buddy, as the case may be. EDIT: In case this thread gets twisted into an anti-hunter diatribe, I fully respect that many hunters are ardent conservationists and naturally have a firm connection to the land and the animals they hunt. "Ducks Unlimited" is an example of such a group of hunters. They are not all out after endangered species, on the contrary they help control species that have grown out of their previous balance, due to human impact.
