@mike lucey said: That's a good idea .... turning eye sores into art This beat me for a competition, the BSA Unbuilt, that I won in 2009 to somewhat less publicity. You can see my unsuccessful 2010 entry here: http://lewiswadsworth.net/lw4/2010/06/19/design/wol/ (It's not modeled in SketchUp.) Thomas Shine overlapped me a year at YSOA. He is possibly one of the few architecture students from the school that who had a worse time there, I suspect, than I did. His final studio project's design (so the story goes) was stolen by a principal of a certain very powerful architecture firm, and used as the basis for the new World Trade Center tower. Shine was courageous enough to sue for copyright violation, despite (this is my memory of student gossip, I want to clarify) the risk that he would find himself blackballed in the profession. The case makes for interesting reading. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/28/arts/design/28bern.html The certain-very-powerful firm settled. Although I would have preferred to win the BSA Unbuilt again, I am happy to see that Thomas Shine and his firm are prospering after all that.

@unknownuser said: Maybe the individual authors might take a peek and offer the latest date for their creations?? I tend to check that list often now that I found it. Each author can and should edit their own posts if their plugin title needs updated. I don't run the "complete" update as frequently as the "latest" update, but any changes will get picked up within a couple of weeks at the most.

I agree with you all in a way or another. My aim here was essentially to share with you the funny fact that people out there have started to create entries in the Guinness World Records that relate to augmented reality and the ARplugin. As the project was really simple, I really had no idea they would make an attempt to it. On the other hand, there are at least three interesting facts emerging from the opinions of you all. It is interesting that people have started using AR on the urban scale to visualize projects in real time not only by means of mobile phones (mobile devices like iPhone are very limited with respect to 3d capabilities) they put effort on a project that has a commercial character this opens out the way to a lot of other similar applications in the fields of architectural visualization, advertising etc. @ Gaeius Yes, but people with suitable devices (AR goggles, tablets, portable computers etc) at a given distance could see it from their perspective. Actually, with this project setting they could not see it from the bottom using a single big marker. A different solution based on multi markers or even other sensors would make this possible. @ Chris Thank you for your valuable comments, but most of all thank you for your offer . I will surely give you a call when the market will be ready for you! @ Aerilius I generally tend to agree with you on this, but GPS alone is not a solution as it will not give you the precision you require to locate the 3D model. On the other hand, GPS together with other kinds of sensors will do a great job. There are different ways to approach a good solution indeed. Also an appropriate multimarker solution would give people the benefit of both advertising and visualization from almost any side and distance.

If you don't mow the lawn, someone could see it in street view... Does multiple sign in mean Google doesn't recognize (& doesn't connect those) which accounts are logged in in the same browser? The Google "world" of services gets so confusing the more services add themselves to your account. I can't wait when they allow to remove services (and delete data) that are think you won't need too soon. The only service for which that is available is gmail.

You must use 12 blocks because you see 12 in each view! It's just arranging them at maximum efficiency... If you can do it with fewer than 12 then you are truly gifted

Yeah I suppose there is a lot of stuff that isnt too great but people have to learn somewhere. I agree about constructive criticisms and that some people take much offense. I think its great I post on other forums just to get those type of responses. But its true a lot of people seem to post images of barely put together projects. I know im guilty of posting a lot but like somebody mentioned earlier the gallery should be too showcase work that the user wants to show off and is proud of. I wouldn't say its anywhere as bad as the 3D warehouse! that place is a mess but its not all bad at least its getting young people interested in 3D! But the whole car modding thing is a joke!!!! grrr I think its simple really, split the gallery to a work in progress section and then a finished images gallery. And if its possible have a small thumbnail section to show tiny images before you click on the post. But I dont know how difficult that would be, I hope its sorted out however! Hope you can split the gallery good luck with whatever you choose.

Well if there's a student in robotic and/or computer vision, I have a challenge: use an iPhone to do exactly the same think regarding modelling interior of buildings. I'm sure it can be done (well I have just a doubt about having the model in real time). And if you have it, please contact me, I know someone within the firm I'm working with who would be interested. To come back to the solution introduced here, it's disappointing to see so much technology to do what is done for a while with less. Robots have used LIDAR and cameras to model their environment and locate themselves for a while. Hopefully they want a resolution that only a laser can provide but I think with today's technology we can achieve the same resolution with cameras (according you are not looking for one under a few millimeters). Just to make my point regarding the fact that only a camera is enough: have a look at the following commercial services I know http://www.arc3d.be/ , http://www.cogent3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82&Itemid=86 . I had also several papers from academics on the topic. But still nothing from someone creating the 3D model of an interior environment with a Smartphone
