      Hey guys,
Thursday last week my HP Officejet Pro 850 kicked the bucket. 3 years is OK to get out of a printer I assumed. Then I ran a mileage report and found that I had only put 7 reams of A3 through it in that time. Yep, that's only 3500 sheets yet I was forever changing the cartridges.

Then today my A4 printer checked out. Geez, you don't want to know what was said in my office today!!!!

Now I'm forced to buy a new printer [or two] I'm thinking about inkjet vs laser seeing the cost of running that damn HP for 3 years cost me nearly as much as the printer itself.

Firstly, the laser vs injet debate. what are your thoughts? I am aware laser is cheaper to print but dearer to buy but how about quality of print? 3D renders; how do they come out of a laser printer as apposed to injet?
Also, what's hot right now? Is there a reasonable multi printer that can store A3 and A4 so i don't need to have two damn printer, 5 different cartridges and don't start me on the landfill debate....

Looking forward to your comments tomorrow.

      I'm having a drink now

I print on 300 dpi (or less) draft, unless saturation and detail is required. Saves a lot of ink.

Look at Xerox for laser, we use a DC242 (£20k) but their A3 start much cheaper

When I had my old HP 350C, as time went by I was hoping for something a little more dependable and less hassle with communication and jams etc. I think the new plotters give you this ( I have a Canon). I get better and faster plots with less fuss. BUT With 6 ink cartridges AND an expensive print head AND a maintenance cartridge to replace... the cost is looking to be many times that of running the old machine. Also If you really need to get that print now--that's when it will run through every nozzle check and cleaning in the book, so the print per minute numbers can be misleading. So I can't recommend Canon. Lately I don't print so much when I can email my plans to the printers.
