Very interesting. I always found it hard hard to believe that so many artists of similar historical periods would all have 'savant' type abilities enabling such accuracy. Also, some of the painters mentioned were very prolific, and many of their paintings show little evidence of having to use 'CTRL-Z' - pointing to the use of technical aids rather than a process of gradual 'refinement'. Funny, when I was attending 'Art' evening classes, I was told that my work displayed too much of my engineering drawing training - so it's nice to see some acknowledgment of the 'old masters' debt to technology, to balance the usual emphasis on art's conceptual dimension. Also, lovely to see that despite his long stay in California, Mr.Hockney has still kept much of his Bradford accent - made me feel right at home when watching the videos!

The guys in the airplanes had to fly dirty though. Flaps down. I'd fly mine to work but they keep the door from the helipad locked.

@dale said: What a beautiful house, and I really admire your attention to detail, but given your background in computers and code, I'm sure detail is second nature. That and being borderline sociopath/obsessive-compulsive… For anyone else contemplating their own build I'd reiterate that obsession with detail thing; so many contractors are happy to let precision slip because it's just a job to them, day in, day out. If you show them the potential for making something nicer than they usually get to do, take part in the process and the work, turn up with enthusiasm every day, then it is amazing how much harder most of them will try. Details matter during the build, after the build as you live there and later when you want to change things. It's also good to live on the Fine Homebuilding website for a year or two to learn (at least) the words and phrases that communicate some knowledge of what you're up to. Better yet, you're likely to know something new in the field that might interest your subcontractors. @dale said: Oh and I still consult for a Nanaimo Company, and do make it down to the Island from time to time. Maybe we can meet sometime, and I can buy you a beer. Cheers Nice idea Dale. Sounds like a plan… Oh, and @dale said: Since I haven't been on the tools for 7 years or so, I got lazy and figured out the compound miters in Skp. I can't count the number of special printouts I did from the SU model to illustrate a detail of the roof decking angles, or rafter tenons, or electrical layout or, or, or. Invaluable.

Amusing, but who would know, other than nurses and doctors? Butt, nipple, vibrator, female-to-male connection, stud aren't just words used by writers to Penthouse Forum; they are legitimate building-trades words (but, then again, the building trades industry is predominantly male....)

One note about comparing compressed image formats: the content of the image will give different results for the same dimensions. So its not as simple as one format being always better than the other.

Yes, well said by that gentleman. I've been thinking about something lately, the figure '1%' is being used to indicate the 'Powers that Be'/ Money Power Brokers but I very much doubt these power brokers are anything near 1% of populations. If you think about it for a minute, how many people do you know? It probably runs into many hundreds! Unless one is living in pretty bad circumstances, accordingly we should know or at least be aware of 2 to 3 of the so called '1%! This is clearly not the case. I think the actual number of power brokers is much, much less than 1%! More like one in a hundred thousand or more ..... would need to work that one out! Done, for a hundred thousand its .00001%. What's my point? Its simply that even the 1% figure probably has been put in there by the hidden power brokers in order that they would appear to be a larger force than they actually are.

Yeah, but this is what they said the first time round. that's why they did it again. And they'll probably do it again, and again.... Like environmental theories ("according to THE Science", an over used term often branded around to evoke environmental doom/ hypothesis etc etc!!), science is always been there to be proven wrong anyway?

@idahoj said: Mike, I think your idea for an international body to police the 'net and provide anti-piracy monitoring is a grand one. That's me! A man of 'Grand' ideas but no clue how to get them implemented at the scale that is required in order that they could be effective! On the other hand, isn't voicing such and idea and getting folks to also back it, a start. This Bill will get through in some fashion, I have no doubt. It will probably have a few amendments tagged on before it does and I think that might be no harm. However, I am still nervous about the ways that it could be abused by the big wallet guys. Maybe in time the Net providers, the genuine ones anyway, will see that it is in their interest to form into a consolidated international group and self monitor / regulate their industry in a democratic fashion. Until now they may not have seen the need or a good reason to do so but this Bill could change that, particularity if abuses creep in and I have no doubt they will.
