Well I'm glad to hear you are not microwaving rats [But if you do the pigeons, you will probably need to finish them off under a grill.] This is interesting though ..maybe they could survive a nukrear [GWB spelling] war. They might be the only thing left.....and one day evolve into....yes you guessed it.....Mothmen

Thanks Maggy, than it seems that it's not only me who doesn't like the illustration. As for your example - we are often asked by journalists to "act" like if we were just finding the things but whenever I can I try to avoid these situations. Still I also know some "media-archaeologists" (as we call them ) who love always being in the focus...

I'm glad everyone's enjoying Thor's models. I wonder why he calls himself the "original moron" and his website "Moron Studios"? To my architect's eyes, his designs for aircraft and spacecraft seem strikingly original...not moronic at all. Just today that program AC3D came up in a discussion I was having with Diego Matho at the Boston Architectural College about next fall's SketchUp classes (which I have agreed to teach again)...it's odd that Diego should have become aware of it at the same time as I did. It's my understanding that AC3D has been out there for nearly a decade, but that the developer has recently extended its capabilities. I've been reading the manual, and the clear interface with which one creates organic (subsurface-smoothed) objects from blocky faceted ones is something Google should emulate for SketchUp (assuming, that is, that Google continues developing SketchUp). AC3D also has a very nice built-in mechanism for reducing mesh object polygon count. Incidentally, although it is available on all OS right now, on the Linux platform AC3D is about the closest thing to SketchUp, as far as I can tell. I could wish it had better snaps/inferences, but at least it has some, which makes it almost unique among the Linux-friendly modelers that I have evaluated. --Lewis poster-Lewis Wadsworth

Holy cr*p, Paul! Your Uncle's company makes some impressive stuff. Especially the structure in the attached image - beautiful. So you've pushed some rod, eh? I wish more engineers and architects had that kind of practical experience. On my last project, I actually had to explain to the structural engineer why we couldn't use stainless nuts on A36 bolts - seems he'd not heard of galvanic corrosion. I couldn't tell you the science behind it, but I know from experience just how bad a situation it is. 18" plate. Crazy. I'm glad I only have to deal with 16 gauge. The 72" Duet sculpture only weighs 65 lbs. Much easier on the back. [image: evz3_gallery11_big.jpg]

I have used it (the demo version) for facial reference before, and I think Alan has played with it too. I toyed with buying the full version a few years ago, when I was doing comic work, so I could save character heads and be able to position them, even change their expressions. But it's marketed to 3d game designers and is therefore too expensive for a hobbyist. But it's so fun to play with...the demo can be a real time waster.

After much soul-searching I have decided to begin my modelling career as a professional "before" model. My impressive girth as well as my photoshop skills (for the after shots) will add credence to your most outrageous claims. Dave

Hi All. I'm pretty new here, just started frequenting the old ruby forum a few months ago. I haven't been using Sketchup that long, but I really love it. So someone please give me some deeper background. Judging by the reaction, it seems like there is much more to this than just Google deciding to move the forum over to their standard product. It's probably a long story, but if someone's up to telling it, I'm up to reading about it. CB.

Yep, all looks fantastic and the icons do look pretty sexy! It was a big surprise for me after not really being around the SU forums for the last few months to see the news about the Google Groups this morning. Big thanks to Coen for taking this on and carrying on the essence of what was the SU Pro Forums.
