    • RE: Color Representation in SU

That is very interesting. I wonder if this also applies to rendering plugins? I had this issue yesterday while showing elevation renderings vs. perspective to a client. My model had a brick texture, and Sketchup colors representing Sherwin Williams paint colors. There was a marked difference between the paint colors, but the brick texture was the same. I didn't know it was a Sketchup material thing, I just thought it was the difference between the sun angle between the perspective and parallel views.

If I have time (funny!) it would be neat to apply a texture of the spec'd paint colors and rerender, just to see.

    • RE: Who's been how long.

Oh boy. I do believe I started with version 1.2, or at any rate, before you could smooth curves. I remember feeling drunk with power when smoothing was finally possible! I was pretty active in the @last forum—I remember Alan Fraser, Mayor Mike and Susan Sorger most of all. One memory in particular: One of the guys on the @last forum (my brain is telling me his name was Steven, but I can't be sure) had a serious health problem and was stuck in a hospital in Milwaukee. We all pitched in and bought him a laptop so he could SketchUp in bed. What an effort of brotherly affection!

I still have the tutorial to make SketchUp output into pretty decent watercolors somewhere in the server here at work.

The first model I shared was a Titanic deck chair that I spent hours on. Looked exactly like the one in the FormFonts catalogue 😉

    • RE: Problem I can't really describe in subject line

Yes this has been around since the @last days. I only come across it when I've inserted a siteplan or similar from AutoCad. It used to be reported as a bug a lot, but I guess it's been grandfathered in as something that can't be fixed? Or maybe it just keeps being put on the "next time" list.

    • RE: I hate copper thieves.

Well Mike, I have a vacant house here in town, and some punks made off with our copper gas lines, and the copper coils in our two AC units. They would have got the plumbing as well, but thankfully it's not copper.

The AC guy I have replacing the units says they never even turned of the electricity to the larger unit, and may have gotten a shock when the pulled all the wires. I sincerely hope so.

Just a quick note to say that the evil gang of thieves who cost me $6000 damage to my AC and gas lines are terrorists and should have airstrikes called on them. 😡

    • RE: 10 years of SketchUping...

You guys are making me feel old. I started with V1.x, before you could smooth the facets on a cylinder. As a renderer whose favorite rendering software had just been bought by Autodesk (Lightscape), I was desperate to get away from anything to do with Autodesk. Perfect timing for @last.

Those early days on the @last forum were really fun. Mayor Mike and Alan Fraser. Jean LeMire ("just ideas"). And remember we bought a laptop for Steven, who was in the hospital and couldn't use SketchUp. Susan delivered it to him personally. Such a small tight community.

There are so many of us now that I can't remember who taught me what, but I'm grateful for all you guys. We're all so happy to share what we've learned.

      Sorry for the hijack Kris.

    • RE: [Poll] What do you think of the new SketchUp logo designs ?

I wonder if the team who developed this logo knew that Microsoft was going to change theirs. The two are very similar.

The mark itself is successful; it shows an object, in perspective—the default view for SketchUp—and it has clearly been push-pulled, another SketchUp original. The color doesn't even matter to me. It can be any color and still be a successful mark. To the R-G colorblind out there it's probably brown.

    • Is this the reason Google sold SketchUp?

      Could be, I don't know...

Didn't some crazy inventor create a life sized Replica of th Falcon in his backyard, I'm sure he made a speederbike hybrid which functioned as a hovercraft, not only is he an inventor but a star wars fanatic

I didn't know this. It seems that there would be a lot of rainfall issues with a hull that has so many nooks and depressions on the top. Still, that's what I would make. The ultimate RV
