      I've only looked at the tippy-tip-top of this iceberg, but looks like I would be able to follow more of what's going on around the web without spending so much skimming time...?

      What should I know? Why should I get hooked up? Where and How should I proceed?

      Thanks, Tom.

        Coen, thanks...where I started. There are a lot of choices (and maybe different directions...once I'm educated), so I'm looking for a some hints at where to start (best freeware, etc.) for a reasonable and hassle-free experience. Best, Tom.

          Tom,

          Nowadays it is more convenient (and also safer) for people to subscribe to "feeds" in a certain topic instead of subscribing to mailing lists. A lot of websites (especially where there are "news") offer rss (and other) feeds that you can see with different online services or applications installed on your computer.

          If we are at Google first, you can sign up for an account there and download only the feeds you are interested in:
          http://www.google.com/help/reader/tour.html

          Also some email clients are able to reed feeds, such as Mozilla Thunderbird (it will just download the feeds for you like an email) or up-to-date browsers, such as Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7 have built in readers, too.

          Nowif your question is that which feeds you should subscribe - well, that's a different story and mainly up to the choice, the interests and taste of the subscriber.

          Still here's a search result for the keywords "rss feed directory" for you to get started:

          Have fun;

            Gaieus, thanks a bunch...didn't know enough to know IE7 already had a feed reader! Will now get started sooner than I thought :`) Best, Tom.

              And it also warns you (even if you don't visit that particular website from where it is originally) that there are unread news (I think with a small, yellor star).
