Looks like there was fun at the Grand hotel also. The Avante crowd was a bit quieter.

The blue moon one is pretty cool, they must drink like fish to keep up a collection like that.

@remus said: This is good for a laugh: http://www.slate.com/id/2193482/?from=rss I cant help bu think that some of the people/organizations are taking the whole thing a little too seriously. Hi Remus, Yeah, HaHaHa is probably the right response. On the other hand, as an American living in the UK for the last twenty odd years, I find this kind of thing more than a little embarassing. If the regualrs in my local read this crap ("...liberal worldwide view" -- What's that when it's at home?)i'd never hear the end of it. Anyway, thanks for bringing this up. Best, Tom

You're right, David... Marilyn died August 5th, 1962 and JFK was killed by an assassin on November 22nd, 1963... But without having looked into any of the other coincidences (I'm sure other parts need a check) the list is funny enough...

Although I missed the Tuesday meeting, I have had a good time talking to some of you forum regulars. As for 3d Basecamp, no breaking news yet about SU7.There is a very positive energy flow about the event, mainly about getting together and talk about SU, almost to the point that some of the presentations seem to have taken a backstage. The SU team has been very accomodating and gracious hosts. The Googleplex is huge and seems like a good place to work, filled with perks (food, massage chairs, food, toilets that whash and dry you, more food, snacks) Khintanar

I'm stunned no one has mentioned the Godfather; ALL of them. Now that's the best trilogy of all time. For a horror flick, see the remake of The Thing with Kurt Russel. Edit: I see Alan did mention the Godfather I and II.

I liked the projects coming from MVRDV a lot when I studied architecture in the nineties. Nowadays, the 'stacking' stuff somewhat looks outdated and supra-modernistic to me. In that era it was 'bon-ton' to either 'fold' things (mostly floorslabs) or to 'stack' things onto eachother. Looking back, it was just esthetic formplay. Thank God architecture evolves over time...

@jim said: @igor said: i think he wants us to try to make it inter face w/ SU. i dont think it'll work. unless the wiimote can sense depth of field, it wont work If you watch the head tracking video, it's pretty amazing. He uses a pair of glasses fitted with 2 leds, and the wiimote can pick up the depth of field. There's nothing special about the glasses besides having 2 lights on it. The computer is manipulating the image on the screen based on the feedback from the wiimote. This could potentially be done for any computer application. Yeah - I kind of assumed everybody had watched that one! But it's not even really the technology involved, it's the thinking that intrigues me. I mean the guy is working out of his lounge and he managed to obviously surprise a few in the gaming industry.

I can imagine it is a trip. I think I would need prozac instead of codeine to watch a complete Lars von Trier series. He's a great director, but kind of confronting to watch..

It's pretty zippy, but the textures take an age to load. MS Virtual Earth is starting to look pretty cool. It's got much better 3D trees and.....flyovers. http://ve3d.spaces.live.com/blog/ And Everyscape has it's own pretty neat version of Street View. Here's one for you, Lewis. http://www.everyscape.com/boston-ma.us.aspx

@johnsenior1973 said: So what exactly did you mean when you said, "Harsh as it may sound, I reserve my appreciation for those, be it architects, artists, composers or writers, who succeed. If I wouldn't, what would my appreciation be worth?" To me that seems to be very clear that you are making out that your appreciation is worth something. Oh, but it is worth something. But I wasn't talking about absolute value. I was referring to the relative value of my appreciation as opposed to my derision. Hope this makes sense. @johnsenior1973 said: But as you reserve your appreciation for those who succeed, surely if Mr. Bon Jovi gets all the success he desires you will then appreciate him? I was referring to artistic merit, not worldly succes (though there's nothing wrong with the latter). Thought that one was clear. @ Kwist: you are gonna need some aspirin in the morning.

Oh, and I should add, that everyone that I know that works there, or has worked there are the nicest and most humble people I know. Hands down. It makes me proud to know them. In contrast to that, I know plenty of people at other similar places (CG shops) and I can't say they same for them (on average).
