I wish text to image did not exist but there is no doubt but grudgingly these images are very impressive. I feel the skills a lot of us have devoted our skills to learning how to model and render are almost redundant. But that felling will be felt by many. Doctors, lawyers, musicians and admin etc Jus saying. What others feel about AI

There was a great story on our national TV broadcasted show "Landline" of a macadamia nut (indigenous nut to Aust) processor who found the nut shells that are so rich in oil (as is the gorgeous nut!! 70% fat) that the burning of the shell produced such energy that this waste could power the plant and the local regional town! The beauty here also was that they then returned a larger part of this win in paying the grower a higher price for the delivered weight as being for both the nut and shell yield! BTW - I'm not certain if you guys OS have had the opportunity to try these nuts, but trust if you like nuts I'd prioritise sourcing some! Yuuuuummmmyyyyy!

I think the problem with most font making applications is the limitation of their scripting for kerning! They seem to generally do a fairly poor job. You can straight away see the problems with many free fonts. That said I think Layout's engine has problems reading font scripts. To see this open any application and type a few words then do the same with layout and you will note the difference. Could be enhanced if layout had "optical" kerning and not just "metrics".

Thanks for that info Andrew - I was really taken aback when I saw it. On the other hand perhaps Sketchup can now get back to what it was originally intend to do, be a cheap, easy to use 3D modeling program for architects and designers. cheers john

How 'bout that top of the list folding proteins number crunch thing? Haven't you been just dying for that? Seems like if it was tied into a render farm somehow, that would be useful. But, I clearly don't know much about that area.

I have had that Laptop for the last 2yrs I think. Its been so good that my next laptop upgrade will be another Asus G(what ever it is then). I still run a desktop with higher spec's at the office. But needed another option for presenting to clients or working from home. I use Sketchup, Autocad 2012, Vray4Su, Thearender. All of which work fine. The laptop is a tank. I'd call it more of a mobile desktop rather than a laptop. Like Rich said mine has a GTX560m 2gb which is a good card for a laptop. But I drool over the latest G75 with the GTX780m 4bg. Mmmmmmmmmm very nice.

A street view screen grab with the sculpture model superimposed would have been far superior to that SU rendering. I do think that that roundabout is a completely inappropriate place for a large sculpture. But the positioning of the model in SU is ridiculous. The barriers are extremely large and there is a wide distance between the barriers so the sculpture needs to go between the barriers, it can't be behind them as they are in the model. I don't think they are particularly bad, they just look like really quick models to me. Definitely not suitable for publication, and they've only probably been published because they were free and the newspapers are churned out quickly and will accept any rubbish picture they can.

I thought they were very nice. I think all the Olympic opening ceremonies within recent memory have been very nice. The torch lighting was done well (each host always tries to do something unique). I did notice, though, that this was the first one I recall where the Olympic flag was not accompanied by an honor guard when raised.

Just did a check on where things stand with Rhino and VisualARQ for OSX. There is some progress! http://www.rhino3d.com/mac [image: CJxv_RhinoforMac.jpg] As regards VisualARQ, they say, "We certainly are very interested in developing a VisualARQ version for Rhino OSX, but we won't be able to adapt our plugin to run with Rhino’s Mac version until that version is 100% ready. Once the definitive Rhino OSX version is released(), our development team will be able to determine how much work/time we need for adapting VisualARQ to the OSX system".* Mike
