e basic premise of my fun with 3d modeling is to use legitimate free programs. Therefore, rather I will not use Vray. Unless I carry a model for a colleague who professionally deals with the modeling of the architecture.

@august said: When I was a teen I used to follow Model Railroading and was fascinated by articles that were tutorials on building models like this in brass and motorizing them. This work appears to involve many of the same skills and passions, without requiring a lathe or drillpress. I linger with pleasure over the photos. There is beauty here in your remembrance of some beautiful machines. Thank you. The truth is I look over lots of paper model builds (mostly because the people building these models painstakingly document their work, making building individual pieces in 3D much easier, along with some factory blueprints). They're also very fun to build. I have many more renders here if you like- http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=81%26amp;t=54436 (one of the images has a faulty valve gear, I know). They're all Eastern European locomotives

Looks good but isn't the garage door much too close to the edge of the wall?

@unknownuser said: Really great work Chuck!. I am also interested in seeing some of your construction docs in layout. Have you compared the detail and time to produce this work against some other BIM programs like Revit, Vectorworks or Archicad? It would be interesting to me and I am sure others to see how our SU stands up next to the "$eriou$" software. Hi Jim, An essential component of these VBE's are that they are readily distributable and accessible to and by contractors and builders. I have worked in various different modeling and drawing softwares and, for me, Sketchup and Layout, even with all their blemishes, were the way to go. But I can't really give an indication of time comparisons, ease of use, etc vs the big softwares, sorry. I can say that I wish Trimble was more aggressive with the development of both Sketchup and layout; there are definitely aspects of both that cause me heartache and time wasted. Both are way too unstable, in my opinion, and Layout just takes too many damned clicks of the button to be a real joy (I would pay serious money just for the ability to move a dimension to one end of the dimension line, as in Sketchup, without the 6 well-timed clicks it takes now; that alone costs me days of time over a year, for example)

@lz said: Nice. Seeing the first one, you might try to go for a haunted house interior sort of thing. Lots of dark blues, greens, spider webs and stuff like that. They always look good. Already did that I may post some pictures, or maybe some video clips later. Thanks for the comments. Cheers

Oh crap, I thought I had replied the other day. I apologize because I was and am very impressed. Incredible design and render. It reminds me a lot of Syd Mead. One of my all time favorite designers and futurists. I mean that as a very sincere compliment.
