Hi scottpara, Just had a quick look at your website. Some nice rendered shots. I notice you have used SU Podium, Vray and Artlantis Studio 2. I didn't see any examples of Hypershot. Do you have any to view? As you seem to have experience of using all these renderers can you give some impressions of what you think of them? Having taken a quick look at them myself, Vray seems to produce the best results (beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I know). and has a reputation for being fast. But I also found it to have the most stark interface with a steep learning curve. For best results it also requires you to use its own optimised materials. For Sketchup, these seem to be in very short supply. There are suggestions for converting the vast material libraries available for 3DS MAX for use in SketchUp. For such an expensive program that seems pretty ridiculous! SU Podium seems to be the most user friendly and well integrated option for use with SketchUp. The next version with its new features, sounds like it could make it a powerful tool. I believe Artlantis Studio 2 requires you to export SketchUp files and then import them. I have always thought this to be too much of a kludge. I prefer integrated solutions. However, I suppose the results are more important. I would be interested to hear your views. Regards Mr S

Tom, This may sound odd, but the first image is by far and away the strongest IMHO. Love the simplicity and the muted colour palette. Less is more Really nice. More please. Andy

I assembled each frame using VirtualDub, which is both free-ware and one of the best application out there for video editing...

The tree is the default Google high poly tree, with a sweet grass texture from the MXL library. I adjusted the levels on the image, as it was showing up very dark.

Hi Pete. Just saw this thread and thought I'd add my non-solicited 2 pennies. I think they are all great starts-- some better than others. A hundred years ago, in design school, we would structure design projects similarly. Ideate on a sofa or chair, and provide 30-50 iterations. Now, select 2 or 3 of the favorites, and begin the refinement process. Consider creating 10 variations (refinements) for each of the selected favorites. This refinement process is very important to the final overall success of the design. Usually, somewhere around 8,9 or the 10th variation, something starts to really click. no..i had figured it out.. and now i cant remember what it was... haha.. i think the image map in the sketchup file was rotated 90 degrees...but the image linked in the mxm was not....'something' like that.. it was all user error

thanks phil...good point. hopefully in actuality, the components will be similar in color and blend and not make it so complex.... updated these a bit and added a couple of options for a smaller sign as well.. have to wait now for the powers that be to meet and discuss.. There's a staggering of different types of tall fountain grass that were requested. The largest is 4' high. I tried 2d follow me components first but they're in big groups and didn't look right from multiple angles so I had to find and alter all 3d components. Pretty cumbersome even before you flip shadows on. -Brodie

Path Tracing Progressive should primary be used for exterior scenes only lit by the sun... For scenes where the lightning is more complex you should use one of the PM presets or the unbiased methods (MLT, BiPT, MLT/BiPT)...
