    • RE: Selecting discreet connected lines segment, without faces

Hi Dave, Was dragged into other territoties and had to get off this project for a bit. Thanks for your response.

Responding to your question, "So you want to select only the edges in the model or at least within a selected region? You could select all of the geometry including the faces"? :

Ideally what I was looking to do was select (in the example image) only the line [and all its connected segments] between the hand-drawn blue endpoints/arrows. I probably should have colored that entire length. This section of line (essentially 4 connected arcs in this case) is co-planar with all the other visible elements. So I don't believe its not categorized a true "edge"; its a kind of "island edge" submerged within the larger face.

The select/deselect method is one that I often use (or version of that toggling between face/wireframe visibility) - but in this case the trick is selecting just that area without selecting other edges (which would also then remain selected). If I were to do that a be left with multiple, connected edges, I'd either still need to manually, individually deselect segments (if the curves were 'broken'), or arcs (if they were true welded arcs). For some reason, 2x-clicking to remove the unneeded lines/edges as entire connected lines was not working - and 3x-clicking was reselecting the faces.

      Thx

... Sorry first image was a smudge too large. Now, with attachment

      Here's the example of what I'm getting-at:

    • Selecting discreet connected lines segment, without faces

      Hi All,
      SkUp23 / latest build, Win10

Been using SkUp for quite a while, so I feel a little unimpressed with myself to have to ask this - but it seems to be coming-up frequently in my workflow; I almost feel as if it wasn't an issue in the past, but I'll throw it out there and hopefully someone can set me straight.

What I'd often like to do is select discreet sections of line - that are in-plane with faces - but isolated among themselves (i.e. specific section is not connected to other lines). Screenshot below as example, taken in wireframe. Above image is selecting segments with single-clicks; I'd like to select [only] that specific, entire curved line. The below image is what I get with a triple-click: selection of all connected lines & faces. I could've sworn that in the past, a double-click would do what I'm imagining, since I thought I recall sometimes erasing connecting segments at the ends, in order to do just this. Currently 2x-clicking seems to do nothing additional. Am I making this up?? Is this wish not possible beyond clicking-away and/or fencing/unfencing?

I know I can do a variety of things with the Selection Toys - but as far as I can tell this is not one of them. Anyone else coming up against this?

      Thanks in advance!

    • RE: Layout Dimension Box

      Thanks for your response.

So, understood on the box layering-over the string. I guess we just deal with the silliness of not having the box's field be truly transparent.

Regarding the modification of the dimension text box itself: any tricks on how to select it for re-size? It seems only on rare occasion am I able to do it, without going either into text-edit mode - or line-edit mode.

      Thanks!

As a side-note: there are times when if I 1x/2x click on/off enough times, I can get some of the string elements to show box toggles, and maneuver the box size. However this seems inconsistent across them all, and I'm not sure what the reason for this is.
      Thanks again.

    • Layout Dimension Box

      Hello,

I Haven't been able to figure a way to reduce the size - or make transparent - the text box in a Layout Dimension. This becomes an issue in tight strings, where one element's box overlaps (and obscures) with the witness or leader lines from another (example attached). Removing "Fill" from the style doesn't do it, and it doesn't seem that the box itself can be stretched, but rather is places with a default distance to either side of the dimension text. Hopefully I'm just missing something obvious.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Missing internal edges in Layout

      Hi, Thanks for responding.

Funny, I've never had this happen to an entire viewport before though.

I already tried you second suggestion to no success.
      I will try the first

Whats curious is how it didn't do the same for the same conditions on a different view. Same components, just different cut. I'll also try maneuvering the section in-question.

    • RE: Missing internal edges in Layout

... So an odd addendum to this question is that - when I cut a separate section/plan for the floor above - using the same component symbol and the same Style definition, all the linework is displayed (in fact, I used the Duplicate Page, then simply switched Scenes to do this.

    • Missing internal edges in Layout

      Hello All,

Tried searching the forums, but can't quite find the exact issue I'm having (although this one seems close : https://forums.sketchup.com/t/geometry-is-not-showing-up-in-layout/89627)

Basically my model's saved scenes use styles set for edges to be visible- but once I open them up in a Layout viewport, only the profile lines are shown. If I adjust the profile thickness (for instance), this change is reflected by updating/rendering the view - but no matter what I do, I can't get the object's internal lines to show in vector or hybrid modes (in raster, the DO show). I've tried fiddling with the view scale but that won't seem to do it.

At this level/complexity, I don't think it should be a graphics/ram issue for this computer.

      Attached 2 captures. Any thoughts/suggestions?

      Thanks!

    • VRAY / Rectangle lighting

      Hello All,

I'm having an issue with rectangular lighting. It seems like it should be straightforward correction for some of you; we'll see. I've attached a few screenshots. Basically, I'm confused as to why the single-source light should create such blurry shadows (I've turned off GI & BG and all other sources).
In fact, the first pass (Irradiance I believe) begins to show crisp shadows as I'd expect. Then, as it moves to the next passes (Light Cache?), the shadows get diffused and misplaced. I thought it was the Bias -- but tinkering with that doesn't seem to help much; I feel as if its something even more basic. I then thought the Glossiness settings for the floor may have caused it but as you can see I've removed the flooring all together.

      Any thoughts?

      Thanks in advance,
      C
