A request for something similar to this was asked for at 3DBC this year....kind of an "organic greeble" if you will. I actually tried creating this last night with subdivide and smooth, greeble, and protude, as Chris described. And while I came up with some cool geometry, it was nothing that resembled the bush you want. Do you have to use a 3d shrub or would a 2d face-me work?

RE: Create and Place a race-track into a terrainUse the Drape tool to lay out the road on the terrain. Then use Joint Push Pull to elevate or depress the road.

RE: SketchUp for iPadThe people who represented Podium at 3DBC this year had an iPad viewer for sketchup. As they moved the iPad the camera within the model moved in realtime. I don't know if they could do realtime walkthroughs, or just see the model from a stationary position, but regardless, it was pretty cool. Did anyone else see this and have any more info?

RE: [Plugin] 2D ToolsOk, figured it out. The 2D tools that don't work for me are these:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=21445v4.6 works fine. Are the plugins on the other thread an earlier build?

RE: [Plugin] 2D ToolsTIG,
The 2D tools don't seem to work in v8. I get the following error (3 pages actually - just copying one as they are all similar).Error Loading File 2D#.rb
C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 8/Plugins/2DlineTool.rb:33: syntax error, unexpected ',', expecting kEND
Sketchup::set_status_text ("Length"), SB_VCB_LABELI don't have an urgent need for this plug-in right now but I thought you'd like to know that it may need to be updated.
 Thanks!

RE: Adding a person sitting on a stoolI know for sure kropped.com has several seated 2D figures. Also see this post for more sites: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=22367&start=0

Render[in] + Fotosketcher WIPSketchUp + Render[in] + Fotosketcher + Photoshop
I just started using Render[in] and Fotosketcher and this is my first project with that workflow. I have another image from this same project that I can post later, but I'm interested in comments/critique on this style.

RE: Plugins for Model Tidying UpDeleteShortLines.rb at Smustard might do the trick.
Also useful for cleaning up CAD imports: CloseOpens and ExtendCloseLines.

RE: Base camp 2012I felt like this Basecamp was much better for networking, while 2008 was better for gaining new tips and information. I definitely wouldn't change anything about the networking/social opportunities, but I would have liked to see the unconference sessions extended into Day 3. Day 3 ended far too early and there were many sessions on Day 2 that I would have liked to attend had there been more time slots available. I agree that the unconference topics should have been brainstormed on the first day after the keynote, with the option to add a few more the next morning if a conversation at the first evening's get-together sparked a new idea.

RE: Travelling long distance?Pete, I will have to try and meet Tom and his Desk. Tom, if you're reading this welcome to Manhappiness!

RE: Travelling long distance?I'm not traveling all that far, just flying south to go west. I fly from my local airport straight south to Dallas then to Denver. American Airlines the whole way, so you kind of scare me with your comments, Pete. Alternatively if I were to drive straight west for 7 hours I'd be in Denver...and anyone who has driven interstate-70 through Kansas will tell you it is definitely straight.

RE: The best way to make roads that bend and go up or down?Cool. How long did that take once you figured out the right plugins to use?

RE: How to remove a house from a photoYeah, the content aware fill in CS5 is such a great tool. Sometimes it requires a few iterations to get it to look right, but it's a tremendous time saver compared to the clone method. I've heard Gimp has something similar, though I've not used it.

RE: Brand new, lost, tutor, autocad to su,Peter's tips are right on. There are some other rubies that I believe Daniel talks about in his Autocad/SU talk from Basecamp 2008 that are huge time-savers if you're going to be converting files like this. Use them in the following order: - Intersect Overlapping Lines
- Close Open Line Segments
- Extend Close Lines
- Delete Short Lines
- Make Faces
I grouped the amphitheater lines (to avoid conflicts with the lines on Layer "Cluster") and did these 5 steps and faces were created just like you'd expect.

RE: Downtown street scape improvements@unknownuser said: Then I take the proposed 3D roadway and alignment. Typically i get them or develop them from Civil 3D. (by the Civil Engineers my background is Civil Design) This is a great way to make sure my model is exactly what was designed! Can you explain the process of using Civil 3D for these images? Do you actually use Civil's assemblies as part of this model? I use a similar process of importing linework from CAD, but I have not imported a plan and profile, which I think is what you are describing. Nice images overall. It appears, especially in image 1, that the cars are out of scale or that stretch of road was intended to be a one-way street.
