Hi!

One of my collegues have problem adding a geo location in SU 8 Pro. The popup windows is all white. First I thought I had found the problem since I saw her IE9 32bit wasn't installed. Just the 64 IE 9.
Our support department updated IE to v11 but it still doesnt work.
I even updated Flash player if that had anything to do with it.

Does anyone know what can be causing it?

Is SU8 Pro not compatible with IE11? (We are on Windows 7 64bit by the way.)

You may want to start here (by Tommy / Trimble SketchUp):

Thanks all for your replies. However, it does not seem to make a difference whichever direction that I draw an object.

It makes a big difference in which way you draw your rectangle, looking north, south, east or west or down. You may have some help with something I made a few years ago: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=509c2a6868ab3855b2dd3120ca5e0662

(Circles may act different!)

But it's better to forget about the whole thing and only remember and concentrate on what is important in good modeling. Ultimately all white (front) faces face outward.

......I cannot get shadows to project on the ground, or even clearly on surfaces as I have seen in others' architectural models. All that happens as I slide time and date is a subtle variation in shading on surfaces until it blacks out. Any suggestions?

Where are your axes? See if reset is available if you right click on an axes in empty space. (Ground plane [R/G] for some reason could very well be 100m above your modeling space).

Well Trevor, you just give me somethings to chew on.
As for plugins, I hardly use any.
But the rest sounds interesting enough for me to investigate. And yes, memory might certainly be an issue.

Kristoff, unfortunately no luck with once again installing the way you suggested.

Trevor, I tried insert before. And also carefully read the page you refered to.
When I insert any new (or old) skp..... poefff, the program is gone. It is as if LayOut doesn't allow any 3D SketchUp frame. I can open the program and use its drawing features etc. but no SketchUp insert. I can load any previously made LayOut file as long as it has nothing to do with SketchUp. I'll give it a rest .... for a ....... minute 😒

Are you sure you installed using administrator?

Thank you Kris, I have no answer yet. For I uninstalled/installed this program the same way as I did with any other program I did in say the last ten years. Not that there couldn't be going something wrong here now, as you suggested.
SU8 <-> Layout3 work well. But I need the new features and some tricks that I learned lately via youtube tutorials. (My "selfemployed" buisiness stopped after 26 years. How much can one take. 😳 😢 But I'll get over it 😕 (will I?), don't worry )

Any suggestions anyone?

• RE: SketchUp >----->> LayOut problem

Uninstalled SU2013pro and reinstalled. All I can do is use the Layout tools on stuf that I create right there. No SketchUp model to insert, it just crasches.

And from within SketchUP, what does 'Send to Layout' mean if it just takes some time, Layout starts and all looks promising and then poeff, layout is gone again?

(b.t.w. thanks for the support, need it)

I would try creating a new drawing in SU and import into LO first. If that is unstable you should look at reinstalling as an administrator and carry out a cold boot. I have had to do this in the past following other updates affecting SU.

If the above works ok then open the problem model in SU and go to Window > Model Info > Statistics and click on "Fix my model".

Thanks Trevor, sorry for the delay in reaction. (*)
SU8 >-->> Layout seems okay.
Any action with SU2013pro and importing/inserting the most simple model make Layout stop working. It just vanishes from screen.
I guess I may need to uninstall and reinstall both again.

(*) (I can't think 👊 (too) straight due to medication. Hernia left site and unable to walk. SU and layout are just a usefull distrection for me at the moment. I need to sort this out.)

• SketchUp >----->> LayOut problem

I use:
SketchUp version 13.0.4812 and LauOut version 13.04.4812 (no updates available)

SketchUp doesn't seem to 'Send to LayOut' (=I cannot find the file name as should)any file after saving my SketchUp file.
Layout may start but craches any time I try to to insert any (previously saved) older layout file.

In the past, with SU8pro and LayOut I could work(=learn) on making a presentation.
As it is now LayOut2013 is instabel to the point that I can't do anything with the program.

What could be wrong or what am I missing?

Thank you for your help.

@mrthud said:

....When I try to select the face I've made I don't seem to be able to choose Make Component...

Cotty is right about creating a component through the right click context menu.
But you can create a component after selecting a single entity (say edge or face) by using the 'Make Component' icon.
An edge can exist on its own. The component will then contain just that edge.
A face can not exist on its own. It needs the boundary. After creating the component from just selecting a face it will (in the component) contain all the bounding edges to support that face.

It does export, but you need to have keyframe installed for it to work. Without that it is just a cube, albeit one modeled with a unique finesse and delicate skill.

@dave r said:

........ Perhaps you've made a group instead of a component?.....

Or you created a component without (right then) replacing the used basic geometry by the component.
Create a component and be sure that this option in the "Create Component" dialog box is checked! Otherwise you still edit basic geometry afterwards.

• RE: Dimension Tool

@box said:

I may be wrong, it often happens, but I think you'll also need to group the dimension with the component or it won't stay with it if you move it.

With Dave's methode, placing the dimension outside the component's context but inside a gluing component, the dimension sticks onto the parent component. It will move along with that single component instance but there will not be any nested components involved.

Example, see attached model.

@cotty said:

You can use a small sphere component to reach a similar effect...

Instead of using a sphere component you could use a (double(*)) 'Face Me' component with a circular face.

(*) create a 'Face Me' component with a circular face.
Wrap this çomponent in a new 'Face Me' component with its blue perpendicular to the inside blue. The disk will face the camera all the time.
If the component is colored default you can paint each one (as a component) differently and also scale them as you like.

Advantage: reduce of file size
(one of the?) disadvantage(s): somethimes you'll view the back side. But since it's a circular component, painted on the outside, you wouldn't notice. And no shadow effect on the circle, unlike on a sphere.

@rafferty94 said:

If is all in a component just scale it through the center line to -1

If you scale the house by -1 you'll end up with a mirrored model of your house.

Use [Ctrl] and [A] to select all and then rotate the entire selection 180 degrees about the green axis.
Your house model will stay "un-mirrored", yet blue axis will point up again as should.

Suggestion: Save a (first) scene with a perspective overview. At some point you somehow rotated your model. This scene will instantly "tell" you if things got mixed up again.

• RE: Save Section Plane..."Reverse" by Scene

@unknownuser said:

.......BTW....not sure I follow the "Setting up animations is going to be slightly different"??

As it is now:
Scene A with section plane 1 active
Scene B with section plane 2 active, different location though.
The animation from A to B (and back) shows the transition of the section cut running from A to B (and back) (scene transitions enabled and unequal to zero)

With your suggestion:
Scene A with section plane 1 active
Scene B with section plane 1 still active, different location though.
The animation from A to B (and back) shows the transition of the section cut running from A to B (and back) (scene transitions enabled and unequal to zero)

The only minor difference is that things are much simpler now without the need of an extra section plane.
