I also made a desktop background, using simple SketchUp Color Set Styles.

Great stuff and especially on the eve of the new Star Wars movie.
I'm wondering if maybe you'd want to share a model for a "Render this" challenge, we have not had one in a long while.
Since I only get to play with SketchUp once in awhile, I'm afraid I don't have many models to share. Would this one suffice?

Blur is maybe not indispensable ?
I don't follow the double negative. We don't like the blur?
I love it, personally. One of the reasons I'm a huge fan of Visualizer.

:ecstatic: But how do they taste? hmmm?
They taste like my monitor. Now I need to clean it.
Beautiful work. Simple and elegant. Just beautiful.

Having fun with Visualizer
What a great tool. I love the ability to focus in on an item and blur out the rest. I pulled up an old model of a small sortation facility and played around. I loved the results.

RE: Factory Robot
Welp, there goes any confidence I had in my own SketchUp abilities.
Absolutely masterful work.

- Ability to "fade" layers just like they seem to when you are editing a component / group but seeing the rest of the model. This is a great way to emphasize elements - lets say a run of pipe - through a cluttered background. This would need to be tied to scene generation just like whether a layer is on/off. It could be "fade all other groups/components" and / or "fade all other layers" for my money... And of course this functionality would follow through into layout.

I would like layer transparency and to have it save-able in Scene Manager, so you could "ghost out" non-essential information in a certain scene, and "highlight" the things you want to stand out. Essentially, creating a scene that looks like when you double-click on a group or component within a larger model.
Great minds...

RE: The Art of SketchUp - part 2: Sci-Fi
Ken,
I want you to know that I pop into this thread whenever I want to see what is really possible with SketchUp (maybe not humanly possible....have you been tested?). It is tremendously inspiring to see your work, as well as humbling when going back and looking at my own.
If I could one day model something half as cool as what you could put out in half a day, I'll be a happy man.

RE: The "Duh!" thread (aka the Doh! thread)
About this time last year, I discovered clicking on the arrow buttons locks you into that axis when moving or copying objects. Now I use the arrows religiously.

I display on an 80 inch display during meetings
Thanks, Bob. No funky mega-advanced video card needed or anything?

Large Displays
Hopefully this is an easy one. I have a client who wants to display his model on a 60" display in his lobby. My question is simply - would Sketchup display properly on such a large display? Are there any pitfalls I need to avoid? Any advice from someone experienced in this area would be most appreciated.

RE: Sketchup problem
I find that happens whenever I switch from Perspective to Parallel Projection. All I do to solve it is zoom extents, which works a bit like a "regen" in ACAD.

RE: AT AT Walker/AT PT Walker
Wow, thanks guys! I'm kinda proud of it myself, but after seeing all the wonderful work in here, I was hesitant to share.
I'm a fan of the "clean" style, so thanks for noticing (and assuming it was intentional)!

AT AT Walker/AT PT Walker
Everyone has to cut their teeth on Star Wars stuff, right?
This will pale in comparison to most everything else here, but here goes:
