Wow. cocktail used to be free! Crikey! 😞

It was MacPilot that I was thinking about. Again about $15. The price I must pay for ignorance! πŸ˜†

Of course it is Jeff! Onyx- I used to use it, but for some reason it stopped working, so I did away with it for a time. Thanks for reminding me. πŸ˜„

There's another too, but I can't remember the name of that other one either. I'm afraid I'm one of those people with a memory like a sieve!!! Typing on my iPhone at teh moment...... Spelling mistakes in abundance..... πŸ˜†

I haven't tried it so can't say if it works. I do suspect this is something the system can control independently of SU however.

Cheers for the link Chris. I'll give it a go in the Terminal (a place I always dread- after my brother wiped a whole hard drive accidentally!!)

I'll tell you both how I got on πŸ˜„

    • More "open recent file" amounts please!

At present SketchUp only allows for a maximum of 10 files to be shown in the "recent items" menu. Any chance of allowing SketchUp to remember more files? I've always got more than 6 or so, on the go at any one time.

      Guys, gals?

Hey Marcus! Yes that was it! It made me smile to see this bearded chap smoking a pipe and drinking a bottle of EKU 28 on a freezing cold Monday morning- bought a bit of cheer in! πŸ˜„

I think it is piss-poor of the Haitian government to call of searching for survivors only after 11 days or so, especially as rescue workers pulled 2 more survivors out of the rubble on the day that they announced this 😲

    • 'Surreal buildings of Bath'- made on an iPhone

I just stumbled across these wonderful photomontages of Bath, England, using iPhone as a photography and illustration tool. They remind me of images made by James Heartfield or even the sets of the film "Delicatessen".

    • RE: Mac>>Sketchup>>Cheetah>>Sketchup??

      Hey John,

I don't doubt that C3D is a great bit of software, but my only and rather major gripe with C3D, is that C3D is unit-less, i.e. specify a line as 1m in SU, and you get something very different, and rather illogical in C3D making it almost useless for architecture- unless Cheetah's sole use is that of a rendering application for use with SketchUp. Even then, once you have exported a model into C3D, you are faced with billions of faces that all need grouping, and that's before UV mapping and the like.

I suppose it all boils down to what you intend to use it for. As a straight forward modeller, C3D is great, but personally I'd rather save, and later invest in something a lot more powerful like Cinema 4D. I too have the Rhino beta, and SharkFX, and although I do like Shark (because it reminds me of Solidworks), working with Rhino is like running through toffee! Perhaps it is early days still with Rhino? The PC crowd swear by it! The SharkFX community, although small, are some of the friendliest folk I've ever met online (in the CAD community).

      I hope that helps πŸ˜„

I just got struck with a brilliant idea!

Don't flame me, but that 'brilliant idea' has been an integral part of Mac OS X for some time! In fact the best software to demonstrate this is Pixelmator (a sort of Paint.NET like application), which works in full screen, and as soon as you choose a tool, all other tools vanish apart from the selected tool, until you have either used that tool, or pressed escape.

I'm sure it won't be too long before it turns up in W7. πŸ˜‰

    • RE: Sketchup performance

I don't think the video card makes much difference to SU speed, except when it comes to rendering. I too have a NVidia 9500 512mb card and swapped it out of my PC, which contained an NVidia FX 1300 128mb. I saw no difference at all. SketchUp also won't make use of multi-cores either (apparently there is a very good reason for this). My HP workstation PC was a P4 3.66gHz (XP SP3) and I also have this Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6) which is a Core Duo 2 2.16gHz model. SketchUp runs a little faster on the Mac, which leads me to conclude that it is the internal buss speed to the memory, which probably had made the difference? Or it is the better processor? Can't say. I'll be trying out a Mac Mini soon, so I'll post the differences then.

      Tom

PS I always recommend more memory! Get as much as is possible! πŸ˜„

    • RE: Print does not work

This sounds very much like a scale problem. Check your model info preferences to see what measurement unit you have selected. You may find that you have chosen say a length of 5mm for a wall (instead of 5m), and tried to print this onto an A4 paper size. It's a common fault that people make who are new to CAD.
