    • RE: Trying to Print To Scale

Thank you for the response, however I am using Layout. I apologize for not including that in the original post. I've been using Sketchup and Layout for quite some time, though I'm still relatively unacquainted with many of Layouts functions and features.

Merry Christmas to you guys by the way, and Happy 2015.

    • Trying to Print To Scale

      Hey again.

I've been trying to print my models out to scale for the last few months, and sometimes it works by luck.
Sketchup uses virtual measurements I realize, however, is there a way to print an image out on my printer and have it be according to a certain scale?
This has been stumping me for months!
      Merry Christmas!

    • How To Print Sketches At A Higher Resolution?

      Hello,

I'm curious if there is a way to make the sketches I need to print out into a higher resolution. I'm worried that if I make the paper size larger, it will distort the image and become unreadable. If I were rendering the image there would be no issue, however due to the fact that I am using Sketchup's built-in rendering engine, I have absolutely no idea whether or not that is feasible.

      Thanks!

    • RE: How To Cut Cylinder at Angle

Wow. Thanks for the great tips guys! I will definitely do this.
I hope my question wasn't too stupid. I'm still trying to learn this program after a year of using it. I'm still learning new things, and I'm pretty sure I'll still have many new questions for a long time!
      Thanks again!

    • How To Cut Cylinder at Angle

      Heyo!

Currently, I'm trying to build a log cabin. I'm at the point where I'm starting to put the roof on, but for the logs (cylinders) to not stick through the roof, I need them cut at an angle. Currently, I have only one theory on how to do this, and it involves potentially hours of work.

Are there any ways to cut a cylinder at an angle? I'm being caught in another stump! Ha! Get it...because I'm working on cab---okay never mind.

I'm curious, is it possible to take 3D models from other CAD programs and import them into Sketchup?

How would I draw a true north indicator as shown in my crude and poorly printed reference I posted with this?

    • Layout Questions

Hello. I'm still fairly new here on SketchUcation, and I'm excited to be apart of the community. I'll be getting more involved as the demand for knowledge becomes greater, and I run into bumps in the road. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to provide assistance to others.

I've been working with Sketchup for a while, but I'm still brand new to Layout, and I'm finding that its not as user-friendly as Sketchup--or so it seems at the moment. I'm hoping that my questions can be answered.

#1: Currently I'm using the Architectural Design format of Sketchup. The downside of using this format is that when I send my sketch to layout, it has a grey background that makes for some not so great images when printed. Is there a way to redo the background without erasing all my progress I've already made? I've already put in dimensions. I am fairly aware of the different styles that can be used, the only issue that I really face is that I would prefer not to erase all my progress in Layout by editing my sketch.

#2: Is there a way to resize the sketch so that it fits a certain scale? I'm aware that I'm using "virtual" measurements and that zooming and manipulating the program/images will change the measurements, my primary concern is that when it does print, I'd like for it to be printed to scale.

#3: Is there a way to modify the sketch in Sketchup, and have it automatically update in layout? For example, if I wish to add another wall, or remove one, but I already have progress in Layout, can I just update the image that is in Layout without having to delete it?

#4: Is there a way to add a bar scale?

Thank you very much for your time, help, and consideration. I really do appreciate any help you can give.
