Hi everyone. I just upgraded to SU2017 PRO. Finally!

I had a request. Could someone skilled with ruby coding create a plugin which takes a set of groups or components, and then disperses them radially out from the central point of an object or from the center point of the cluster of objects, within a user specified range? Call it Splody, or BlowUp, or something similar. Maybe Diaspora? Actually Diaspora would be cool. That's almost exactly the description of the functionality I'm looking for.

Anyway, it would be excellent for speeding up the creation of renderable debris fields for SF illustration work, and would save me a lot of time and aggravation.

      Thanks in advance!

The problem was having 77 .rb files from the old libraries. 😳 I had for some reason never considered that they might remain in there, not being auto-magically overwritten and eventually cause a problem. I think it may have resulted from Windows offering to merge folders, and me not paying attention to what I was clicking on.
So, upon finding that yes, there were a bunch of .rb files in there, I sorted by file type, selected all .rb and cut; pasting into a storage folder elsewhere, just in case doing so screwed something up.

Seems to have solved the problem, nothing screwed up and ThruPaint works right again, showing the full palette.

Hmmm. I'll check that and see if that's the issue.

Edit: Yeah, that was the problem. Thanks very much, Fredo. πŸ˜„ Sorry for not thinking of this solution myself 😳 😳 😳

As always, your entire suite of plugins are the backbone of what we all do with SketchUp. Thanks once again, for the plugins and the assistance.

May the Source be with you,

...And here's the Error code from the console. Sorry for not including that yesterday Fredo. I'm still getting over the flu, and just didn't think of it. 🀒

Also, Win7Pro, still using SU7.1. I may upgrade if I can get far enough ahead of bills to save up for it. 64-bit and Large Address would be nice. πŸ˜‰

EDIT: Oh, and I just updated LibFredo to 7.4. Yesterday, even. πŸ˜„ I figured It might help.

Ok, having an interesting problem with Thrupaint. Is there somewhere I can get a copy of 1.2a? It worked.

Since I updated to the new version as part of the whole Fredo Tools package, the menu palette refuses to show anything beyond this:ThruPaintProblem.PNG

I have not yet found the problem with this and would love to just revert to 1.2a, but I no longer have the installer. Any help would be welcome.

      Thanks,

      Hi Fredo,

Thanks for continuing to update your tools.

I'm having an issue with ThruPaint where I invoke the tool and it promptly does nothing. Nothing shows in the error console, it just refuses to come up.

EDIT:]Woops! Mybad. There is something in the Ruby console.

      @unknownuser said:

(eval):1: warning: already initialized constant T7

      Hope this helps.

It was working fine for me prior to me updating things over the last two days. I'm using the latest downloads of FredoTools, and FredoLib, right out of the SU Plugin store.

I have double-checked the plugin footprint, and it looks like it should look.

      Still on SU7.1.6860, Win7Prox64

      Second update.
I have no idea why this worked but I unchecked Fredo Tools in the extensions, restarted and now Thrupaint is working just fine, as is everything else. The weird thing is, I did not re-enable The Fredo6 Fredo Tools extension, yet things are working fine. 😲 πŸ˜•

Update weirdness makes my head hurt, πŸ˜†

I guess there's nothing to worry about after all.

      Thanks in advance,

Update: Works beautifully under 7.1! This solves so many problems...Thanks awfully much, Trogluddite. THis does exactly everything I have wanted a lathe plugin to do without any major identifiable problems. Definitely going in my must have plugins file.

@ Mitcorb. It could be worse, I could be one of those Paleo-Luddites who still uses SU 5!

Wow, Thank you, gentlemen. Quicker replies than I expected.

@ Box: That was my first instinct, but I guess I psyched myself out and decided it couldn't be that simple, so I didn't even think to try.

@Dave R: Yeah, I suppose I could do that. Except that I didn't just plain didn't like SU8 when it came out.

      Anyway, thanks, both of you.

Edit: Thanks Mitcorb. Looks like we cross-posted there. I'll report back on whether it works with 7.1

Just to clarify; I may finally switch over to SU 8 when I finally get the new machine I've been trying to get for over a year. Right now, this thing is a delicate balance in order to even keep the machine running, and it's not worth it to muck about with SU 8 when I'm sooner or later going to be redoing everything anyway.

      Thanks, all

Apparently I'm missing something here. How do you install a .rbz when there is no "install" option in your plugins menu? I'd very much like to use QuickLathe, but there seems to be no way to install it on my system. WinXP, SU7.1

Yeah, funny that. I just came back here to post that I found turning off Hardware Acceleration and fast feedback cures the problem.

Funny, most of the time Hardware acceleration doesn't seem to cause a problem. Its not a problem for renders, so I may just put up with it until I buy / build my render box.

Thanks anyway, Thom. The help is always appreciated.

Right here. The first two images in the previous post are how it SHOULD look. The second two, are how it does look in the edit window. Anyway, here is a sample model.Glow Crystal.skp
      Sample screencap.png

I've been using png alpha channel textures lately to achieve kind of a psuedo-particle effect, and generally having good results, which make uh, stuff, like this all the more frustrating.
      Thanks much, Thom,

    • Nasty texture bug

PRRRRRROOOOBLEM.pngProblem.pngUsually happening with PNG textures, but I have seen something similar with a jpg or two. ALWAYS seems to be in textures I have just made for myself in GIMP, etc. When I try to zoom in to see what the artifacting is, it just fades away...
Seems to apply on solid (jpg)and alpha channel (PNG)textures.
Has anyone else seen this, and how do I get rid of this? This problem first showed up about a week ago. No new plugins installed, and the problem seems to be intermittent. I am saving up money for a better machine (QUADcore!) so I would rather not spend money on a new video card at this time.

      Still using XP Pro, SU7.1.

      Thanks in advance,
      Cathryn

Ok. This is SO not funny. I posted this message, and then find that when I had SU export the image as 2d graphic, it did not show the artifacting. Instead, it showed what I should be seeing on my screen and it shows as above. SU still shows the following CRAP on screen, in the edit window. So, here are screencaps of the offending problems. In the second one you can see the artifacts having begun to fade as I zoomed in. So far, I have not been able to get rid of this artifacting. It's rather annoying. • RE: Anyone had this error before?

I had this one happen awhile back. ( I don't remember exactly when, but in the last month and a half sometime.) Like with you, it disappeared and went away never to be seen again; so, I didn't worry about it, and chalked it up to some bored programmer building in some wierd easter egg. You're not alone, but at least it seems to be a benevolent wtf bug

    • Request- Copy + Scale

Does anyone know of a plugin with which you can create an array and scale each item by a certain amount as part of array creation, sort of copy + scale all in one operation, so that for example, the first copy is 10% smaller than the original; #2 in the array is 20% smaller, #3 is 30% smaller than the original, and so on. 1D, and 2D functionality as well as 3D functionality would be great.

I've looked over things here, smustard, and a couple other places, and haven't (yet) seen anything quite meeting my needs. Thanks in advance,

Maybe upgrading to both Windoze 7 and SU 8 will help, you would'nt need all that wine.

Upgrading to either one isn't going to happen anytime soon. Can't afford Win 7, and can't stomach SU8. Hopefully SU9 will be better, but that's most likely still a year or two out.
Truth be told, I don't care for any windows product, but I still need it for now, while I am learning Linux and gradually transferring everything over to it.

      @unknownuser said:

If your SketchUp works fine on Windows XP, then that's good and I would keep it until you are sure that you are happy with how SketchUp works in Wine. I've heard very many different opinions (from simple 'it works' to unbearable), but in general it works almost flawlessly (depending on your workflow you might miss the funny sketchy styles, image export, thumbnails).
If you have already [whatever Linux], the best is to just try it out.

You need: a graphics chip/ graphics card with hardware acceleration (it runs only accelerated) and a recent version of Wine (1.2.3 stable or later, for example the Ubuntu Software Center offers 1.3.28 beta).

You could find some useful info also here: https://sites.google.com/site/sketchups ... lems/linux

Thanks for the link and the info, Aerilius. I'll be checking that stuff out today.

    • Sketchy +WINE--A question about feasibility

Hey there, can anyone give me some advice on whether or not SU 7.1 will work, and if it does, how well it will work in WINE for linux. I recently went over to a dual boot system, because I was tired of Windoze shenanigans, and currently us Windoze ONLY for Sketchup, and listening to music. I would love to be able to do my modeling and rendering under WINE so as to avoid more of the Windoze follies that I have grown to hate so much.

      Thanx,
      Cathryn
