      Jack,

Go to File, Export 2D Graphic, right under the box where you type in the file name is a drop down menu called Eport types. You can choose an EPS file which will go into most vector based programs where you can then manipulate the lines and the colors. Hope that helped πŸ˜„

Edit: EPS files will go into programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, Pagemaker, QuarkXPress, Xara Extreme and I think even Word

    • RE: "Upgrade" to Windows 7 from XP

I recently upgraded all my machines to Windows 7 from both XP and Vista. All but one were bare machines (basic setup for use as render farm) however my main rig was Vista. I had no compatibility issues with the upgrade, in fact some apps that had issues with Vista like my Scanner drivers (visioneer) now worked much better. It took some time getting used to the new UI, but all in all I am very happy with the change and would do it again without hesitation.

      Solo,

Off subject, but could you tell me what kind of parts need to be assembled in each machine to begin a render farm for Vue? I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to Vue and any kind of render farm. So, for example would it be best to place money into the processors and not the graphics cards?

I'm just getting to know Vue a bit more. I had to do the motion blur in PS because I'm not sure how to do it Vue. I'am loving Vue 9 though, it is a lot of fun to use.

Another "senior" apple care representative spoke to me earlier. Basically treated me like a villain and said I had no proof that the laptop has been damaged at the repair centre or in transit.

So they want to send me the laptop back with a fresh dent in it! I'm not having it. I said no, keep it!!

That is unbelievable!!! You really said NO, just keep it" 🀣 funny but sad to have to reach that point.

Oli, sorry to hear about your experience, that is crazy! With an Apple warranty plan in place Apple is really saying to you that it's not covered 😲

This is the kind of story that continues to support my personnel belief in the way I go about a computer. I have had the best of luck the last 10 years building my own PC's. I have built 5 PC's in that time and my XP's were very stable, then last summer I went to Windows 7, which was the best thing I have done. I can load it up with RAM (12gigs), i7, 64bit, GTX 470 and after up and running it ended up costing just under 2K.

I have owned, and still do, a titanium G4 which I liked but eventually was just to slow for me and so I shelved it years ago then 2 years ago I bought my wife an imac, I'm not much of a fan anymore. Apple does produce wonderfully aesthetic products but I have a hard time paying what they want for them. When I compare what I can get in a windows machine I end up liking the cost to quality & speed ratio with the windows machines. I also like the building the machine this way your machine does not come with a load of junk you don't need or want on your machine and you can install what you need and only what you need.

reminds me of a thread at a mac forum last year..

same setup as yours then the OP calls apple and they send out a new one.. it arrives then a week or so later, the other one shows up..

the thread then grows to 50 or so pages with internetArguments about the morality&legality of keeping the 2nd laptop.. πŸ˜„

Hmmm Rendering network or morality? Rendering network or morality? hmmm Rendering network or morality? πŸ‘Ώ

🀣 that's funny. Would be tempting, but I couldn't sleep at night if I were to keep both.

So, I just installed DivX and gave it a whirl, awesome, it worked so slick and the export was very fast. It looked super good.
If anyone would like to try, check out the difference between codecs like the default (I thinks it's Sorenson) and DivX. DivX is so much smoother, no where near as much jitter. http://www.divx.com/DivX

Which DivX codec: MEV, H264, AAC, AVI ?

      Bob,

Not entirely sure. I just downloaded the free DivX (Not the Pro) and installed the Codec Pack 1.0. I set it to export an .AVI, but I'm not sure which codec it uses. I don't believe I'm able to change what codec because I'm not using the Pro version. I hope that answers your question.

    • RE: Turn off scene thumbnail generation

Under the Scenes window, look under menu and uncheck the "Use Scene Thumbnails"! Hope this helps!

I tried it and I had to create a scene before I could uncheck "Use Scene Thumbnail", then it never created another thumbnail after that.

Same here, running Win. 7 64bit and installed just fine. Also this is an awesome update, I'am very stoked about the shadow bug fix, then I run across the fix that allows you to choose a different codec WhoooooHooo . From the very beginning this has bugged me to death because I could get it to use DivX on occasion if I were to restart SU but even then would hardly ever work. So, I just installed DivX and gave it a whirl, awesome, it worked so slick and the export was very fast. It looked super good.

Hey thanks a lot everyone, this has been very helpful and enlightening β˜€ I now have a doctorate in selection and data on mesh surfaces. Love this community, best bunch of pros πŸ˜„. The selection toys are super Thomas, you have some awesome skills in creating quality plugins.

Fredo6, I don't think I have ever seen the Area within the contextual Menu, awesome, thanks.

    • RE: Mesh Surface Calculation, Can You?

I think I figured it out. Give the surface a material, then select all same material. And I believe this will work if you have a surface that has been smoothed by turning on hidden line then doing the same thing.

Ok, so what is the best way to select all the surfaces on a mesh without selecting any of the lines?

I may be missing something super simple here but I'm not able to figure out the surface area of a mesh (like what you can create with the sandbox tools). Is there a way to do this?
