    • RE: Shadow Anomaly's in Layout

Im curious to see if this issue was sorted as I am having a similar problem in LO when rendering in hybrid or vector, I get unwanted areas of section fill. It's been happening for some time but have accepted that my sections need to be raster which is not ideal for presentation purposes. Hopefully this gets sorted in SU2023.

    • Documentation Style in SU

      Hi All,

I have been using SU since the @last days and one thing I have avoided getting my head around is STYLES. I have always just used the defaults, they have seemed to work fine for me till now. The documentation style renders B&W line detail drawings with coloured section faces from inside SU which is great but a bit monochromatic. I am now using the CURIC free section face tool which is a great easy to use tool but, I cant find a style or not sure how to create one that will render model faces white with a black line for documentation style and maintain the coloured face of the section cut. Previously if I wanted to keep the coloured face I would adjust all textures and colours in the model to white. Be great to hear from the experts in here to see if such a style exists or could be created. Thanks in advance.

      Hi Dave,

Yea I saw it but will be waiting a couple of weeks or 3 before I update again. One lost income day a month is enough for me thanks.

      Solo,

This my dilemma, when I had the error 10 come up I spent a whole day trying to sort it out. It corrupted a couple of my files so had to re do drawings in 20.1 LO to get it to work. In the end after talking to the local SU support they suggested to simply revert back to 20.0 until its fixed. What it high lighted to me is how vulnerable I am relying on a single programme in my office. Like I said I hate to love skp but lesson learnt on the updates....wait till they are tried and tested.

      Hi Dave,

After using revit during the covid lock down..... I think I just enjoy using skp too much to change. I recently up graded to 20.1 and had big problems saving with an error code 10 so have re-installed 20.0 until the problem is fixed. I just hope skp 2021 brings us all some pleasant surprises

    • So whats up with Sketchup??

      Hi All,

I am not a frequent poster but I do browse through the forum regularly to see what's new and to trouble shoot any issues I am having. I have noticed as I am sure most of you on the forum have that there is nowhere near the interest or questions asked on the here as there were prior to the release of SKP 2019. I would be interested to hear from members their thoughts on what has happened. Have people become dis-heartened with the progress of SKP and switched to another programme or lost interest or both?

For me, I felt my enthusiasm for SKP start waning after the release of 2019 even though SKP is the cornerstone of what I do. In the past 2 years I have gone through phases of giving up skp all together and joining the revit crowds and realising this is too hard and then going back to skp. Over the past 2 years I have trailed Revit, Archicad, Autocad architecture, Bricscad BIM to various degrees but found myself always comparing them to skp. Like the component families in revit for 2D detailing, Layout and the scrapbook are easier, quicker and I think the result is better and more legible 2d details. So I guess I am in a position where I hate to love skp.

I own a Revit 2019 licence and have been playing with it on and off but I cant help thinking that my productivity will half if I start using it.

So where are people heading with skp, are they sticking with it or are they looking to migrate to another programme in the not too distant future?

    • Layout Error Code 10

      Hi all,
Anyone here still having this issue in layout 20.1? I have spent my whole Friday trying to sort this out turning off auto render and relinking the model but to no avail. I am really starting to panic now as I don't want to have to re create the 60 drawings I have. Has anyone found a workable solution for this bug?

    • RE: SketchUp 2019 release

Sketchup has become the cornerstone of my business, I use it for everything from quick mass studies, to concept design to full construction docs for projects ranging from small housing to large industrial projects. I have invested huge amounts of time in this product to enable me to do this, I hope Trimble understand this and will stand by us full time users whose livlihood depend on it.

The 2018 update for me was great especially the ability to do scaled drawings in layout. I just hope this next update... whenever it is... will give us the ability to control line weights for layers and / or components instead of applying a raster style.

I am feeling a tad nervous about the silence on a possible release date given my investment in this product I think at the very least we should be kept up to date on whats happening.

    • RE: Wish list for Sketchup 2018

I wish for sketchup / layout to have better vector output for construction docs. Skalp is great but the raster infill to walls doesn't print well unless on high output. Something like skalp incorporated into SKP/Layout with vector infill would be a step closer for me to stop paying damn Autodesk subscriptions for revit and autocad.
I really like the way visualarq for Rhino produces a 2d flat section or plan representation for vector output that is automatically updated when amended. Something like this would for me anyway be extremely helpful. ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    • Layout Error 101

      Hi All,

Anyone else experiencing difficulty pasting geometry direct from SU to layout? I regularly copy surfaces from my SU model and paste into LO to create hatching overlays. I am finding with SU 2016, I am regularly getting an Error 101 saying I am unable to save my document and that I have to revert to the previously saved file. ๐Ÿ˜ž ๐Ÿ˜ž Anyone know what might be causing this?

    • RE: [Plugin][$] Profile Builder 2

I was a big fan and daily user of PB1, PB2 is just awesome. Purchased it couple of days ago and really like the new interface. The simple 2D profile stamp sounds simple but invaluable for 2D drafting. You can either mock up your details in SU or simply cut and past the profile direct in LO and do them there.

I have been trying to build my own assemblies as I see these being invaluable in the work I do. When you create your components and profiles and assemble them, is there a trick how to do this so you don't have to spend alot of time aligning the profiles and components in the assembly. Mine seem to end up all over the show.

Great work Whaat, love this plugin.

    • Scheduling Areas

      Hi All,

In the preliminary phases of a project I use sketchup in a 2D format quite extensively to get planning issues and areas right and signed off by my client before I get into 3D. What I really need at this early stage is a way to generate basic areas of surface finishes and floor areas and logically schedule these out. Does anyone know a good work flow or Plugin that might be able to help me out with this. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘

    • Reference and Slave Models

      Hi All,

As my models get more complex ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ with many different views I am looking to adopt Nick Sonders method ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ˜Ž of having a master model with several referenced sub models for internal elevations and joinery and ceiling plans etc.I was looking for suggestions on the best method to achieve this. I cant quite figure how to update the sub-model once the master model has been adjusted. Is the trick to create a component of the entiremodel? Any suggestions would be appreciated. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘

    • RE: Well Hidden Geometry

      Thanks TIG,
I tried those out but didn't work. After an hour looking and continually updating my Lumion model I discover it was attached to the ground floor wall component. I exploded it and re created the group now its gone. Pretty weird, haven't had that happen before especially when it wasn't on outliner as well.
