Hi guys

This is one of my first few renders. I know its no where near most of the standards around here but im trying my best for now

Using Sketchup 7 and Vray

Couple of things im struggling with which Id love some pointers:

GRASS - Tried the make fur plug in and when i render, nothing comes out. The extruded grass isnt showing, just a flat plane if that makes sense. ANy idea on what im doing wrong?? Ive seen soem results of others and its amazing!
Also, can you do the grass in photoshop? any tutorials worth mentioning out there?

COncrete - Still struggling to get some good, realistic concrete. I believe I have the right textures, just not sure if im doing it right. I usually edit them in the materials studio and then bring them into SU and modfiy the scaling/ratio of the texture.

Trees - still struggling to get some convincing trees. Im basically using images with alpha maps.

SHADOWS - when i render, why cant i see the shadows? there seems to be just a bit but not much at all. Also, the trees arent casting any shadows, how can I do this using images/alpha maps?

Your comments, thoughts and assistance are all welcome, looking forward to some responses.

can anyone recommend me the MUST have plug ins for building houses from plans?

ie -
window makers,
door makers,
anything that can assis with CAD importing??

OH is there any tool that allows you to see which material or texture is taking up so much MB?? For instance, my sketchup file is approx 100MB in size and I have no idea what is using up all the resources?

Looking to buy a new PC for Sketchup and Vray. I will primarily use it for rendering. Any suggestions on the specs that I should be looking for for a descent set up?
Does a good graphics card make a difference?
What should i be looking for (in terms of features) that would help with render times?

tiles, not neat but they work nicely. you need to model the ridge for it to be realistic.

Depending on what render app. you want to use, solution can differ...
It can be high poly 3D trees and scrub you add in the render app...
It can be entourages to insert in post pro subsequently...
It can be a mixture of the above and other solutions as well...

So please provide some more information and I'm sure lots of users in this great community will be willing to help you with guidance and tutorials...

First time poster here.... Im new to the render scene and really need some roof tile images (happy to pay or free).
I live in Australia and would like roof images that are similiar to those used here in OZ.
ive attached some examples that i require....
