    • RE: Switching the daylight on

Do you have any glass material in your windows? If you do, just for kicks, remove any glass faces and re-render to see if it helps. If it does then the issue is with your glass material. If not keep reading.

Check your Lighting switches in your Global Switches menu.

And finally check your 'Environment' option tab and make sure your GI (Skylight) is set correctly.

Hopefully one or more of these will help you.

Unfortunately that version is out of date. They fixed that issue (along with many more) and released it as Vray 2. You should look at possibly upgrading your Vray version.

    • RE: How to render a model in face style X-Ray?

I wonder if this could be achieved with a Toon Material?

Edit: I just re-read the original post. You would have to set each material to be translucent. Ignore my toon material reference.

    • RE: Hows Vray for SU compared to Vray for 3ds max?

It's a little funny how some people seem so against the thought of using Photoshop. Many Photographers pride themselves on minimal use of Photoshop to maintain the realism of their photos, and as you just mentioned, the guys in your office pride themselves on not using Photoshop either.
I agree that 'too much' post can ruin the image (both photographic and rendered) but also in both cases there are just some things that can't be achieved without it (due to software constraints or perhaps time/cost constraints). I've seen AMAZING work done with only sketchup and Photoshop which can rival any renderer any day of the week.
Ultimately Photoshop (or any image software) is just a tool, no different than Sketchup, Max, Vray or a Physical Camera. If used well it has amazing benefits, if used incorrectly it can be a detriment. My feeling is just that Photoshop can be so powerful that it's overwhelming to most (myself included) so we tend to use just the very basics of it.

    • RE: Dark interior of the buliding with exterior rendering

Well I think this reflects real life photography as well. On bright sunny days, the exposure outside will be a lot brighter than inside (assuming no major sunlamps inside). The range of exposure for a camera (aka rendering) is a lot lower than the human eye. So if I were sitting outside the window looking in I would personally see something similar to Picture 2. But if I were to take a photograph of it, it would probably look more like Picture 3.

And another thing I've come to realize is that Post-production probably equates to over half of the wow-factor. I've watched many archviz videos / tutorials and to be honest, the raw render that comes out is very similar between vray versions no matter what modeler is used, its in the post-production skills that really blow my mind. Its probably the place that I'm lacking the most skill-wise.

    • RE: Material visualization

If you use sketchup materials does it show up properly on the model (both rendered and not)? If not perhaps its something simple like having monochrome turned on in the styles palette? But otherwise it sounds like where the information for the vismat is located SU can't find any images for the diffuse map to use.

    • RE: [req] Exterior lighting advice

I suppose it would depend on the bollard. You could just use a sphere light inside the bollard component, or if it was a bollard with down-lighting I would use an IES light. Some manufacturers might even list IES information for their lit bollards.

so following the math (900X2)/60 = 30 hours?

Yup, that sounds about right. Keep in mind it totally depends on frame size, complexity, and final FPS rate.

      @Roland

Wow, now that is some great advice. If everyone followed in those footsteps we wouldn't get anywhere. This is a forum for helping people learn the software, not for people to tell you not to bother because it's too complicated for you.

      @Wim
Vray is a pretty powerful renderer, yes there are lots of buttons and tweaks. But there is also lots of information out there to help you along, especially here in the forum. There are tons of presets and pre-fab materials out there as well to get you well on your way.
It is a little overwhelming at first, but then again so is Photoshop and many other programs.
Keep at it and you'll learn to love it.

    • RE: How much should I increase artboard size before render?

No, the 300 represents DPI (Dots Per Inch) which is pretty close to Photoquality. So it would be 8"(20cm) x 300 = 2400 pixels wide.

    • RE: How much should I increase artboard size before render?

Well seeing that you will only get a Raster image from a rendering the best approach would be to a) first determine what the output size would be (8.5x11? 18x24? etc) then multiply each dimension by 300 to get a photoquality dpi. That is if you are looking to print, if its just for screen purposes then you could get away with 72-90 dpi.

    • RE: How to correctly set photomatch camera with real exif ?

Not sure if this matters or not, but the Advanced Camera tool output on the first image is set to Screen, have you tried setting it to Photography > Full Frame (or APS-C depending on what type of camera took the image).

    • RE: Decal mapping in V-Ray

Another option you can do is create a component on a face and set it to cut the face (similar to how many a window is created) then apply the decal to the component.

Now you can create a face and insert the 'Decal Component' on top of it without it causing and weird artifacts or shadows etc.

      Component and wall face separate.

      Component combined with wall face.

    • RE: Random Objects in Scene not Rendering

Well as I mentioned in my first post, you could try the original model (components and all) as use Override materials, if everything renders fine then its more than likely a material issue. The pain then is to replace material one at a time to see which one is causing the issues.

    • RE: Random Objects in Scene not Rendering

What version of Vray are you running, I know this was a bug in the Pre 2.x versions. One thing you could try is to render with override texture on to see if it is one of the textures that is causing the issues.
