Thanks Stuart. Actually, I was just winging it with the trunk. I'll have a go with a reference image like you suggest and see if it turns out better.

      Hi Gulcan
Do you know if there's any way to manipulate the UV map once I've unwrapped it?

    • Trees for game tutorial

I've been experimenting with a quick tree modelling method to use in a games asset tutorial. I've got this far with simple steps, but now to get any further it's going to get too complex. Please could I have comments and suggestions? Are any of these alright as they are? If not, which of these would you go forward with - if any - for more tweaking?

    • 5 ebooks for Β£25 ($40)

I know this sounds like a shameless plug for my own book and my publishers, but it's really not. I was just on their website and saw they're doing an offer for 5 ebooks for Β£25... which I think is phenomenal! All Packt's books are computer related. It's http://www.packtpub.com

Now here's the shameless plug: why not include SketchUp for Architectural Visualization as one of your 5? It's got colour pictures in the e-book version πŸ˜‰

I liked that teddybear so much that I thought I'd give it a go. Here's a bunny. Just SketchUp and Shaderlight πŸ˜‰

Low poly and it renders great without any editing in Kerkythea πŸ‘

How long did it take to do?

Hi. This should work. Can you post an example skp file so I can take a look?

I agree - wow! The original sketchup was sold on a little animated GIF demonstrating a time lapse model being created, similar to this.

    • RE: Business Card stack.

Thinking laterally. You already have a photo of the card stack. Use photomatch to line up and draw the top card:card stack photomatch.jpg
Then File > Import, Use as Texture and stretch an image of the top card over the surface. Turn off edges.

    • RE: Zoom in Indigo and Twillight?

As far as I know there's no way to replicate 2pt perspective in Indigo because it's an artificial view, and indigo has real world cameras. You might have more luck with Twilight as it's based on Kerkythea isn't it? Failing that you can set everything up with Twilight and then export to KKT.

    • RE: NPR to photoreal

Thanks mate. I've taken a look around the web at the various archviz portfolios, and there's few out there doing NPR. It's a shame in my opinion because you can do these so easily with SU and Photoshop/GIMP. Dennis's method is a good example. I offer a range of visual "flavours" because at the end of the day not everyone's got the budget for a full blown photo-real render, and also as you've said, the softer approach is often more suitable.

      Kind regards, Rob

    • RE: Tree from SU

I'm interested to know - how big (pixels and image size) is the leaf image, and can you reduce it? What is the model size once you've done that? Another trick is to remove the image and just stick a green colour on the leaves. How does the render come out after that?

    • RE: Hello and Help?

I know this sounds obvious and you've probably looked at it already, but have you checked there's no hidden objects in your scene? If you go to window > outliner (windows only) you can see exactly what's lurking in your scene.

Check that you're in perspective view in sketchup. This should sort it. (view > perspective)

    • RE: Photo match challenge

For any photo to work with photomatch the image has to be uncropped. This is because PM assumes the centre of the image is the centre of the camera lense. So I can't see any way to use PM with Bing.
