Very nice! For some reason the 3 lights on the left bother me, they seem a bit uniform and flat and don't look like they interact with the other geometry the same as the rest of the lighting. I'm not sure if this was done in photoshop or with the render?

      Great work.

    • RE: Motherboard render

      Hi,

It isn't cheap, and if it had to come out of my own pocket I would go for something like twilight which gives great value and performance. The thing that sold it to us is the speed, saves us so much time that the cost is offset in man hours saved so it's worth it. It integrates very well into sketchup so the work flow is very simple and logical.

The interface takes a bit of getting used to but having access to the fryrender materials library really helps to speed things up. You don't have to create a lot of materials as someone has normally uploaded a suitable one.

There are several GPU renderers about to break into the marketplace which will be a lot less that Arion. Will be very interesting to see who gets the crown in the end. Thea is looking incredible and a very fair price. I think that will be my private choice eventually. I didn't get on with Octane very well, but that is almost at commercial release phase now so let the battle begin!

Now there's an idea! However, the negative feedback from just selling a picture might not be worth it πŸ˜‰

      Thanks for the comment

Thank you, detail is down to the person who modelled it so all credit goes there, not to me πŸ˜„

      Hi Guys,

Had a bit more fun with Arion Render tonight. I downloaded the model and applied the textures in around 10 minutes. Each render took 10 minutes also.

      Hope you like it!

      Hi Guys,

Thought I'd have another play with Arion render tonight. Downloaded the model from the 3d warehouse and applied some simple textures to it.

I let it render for about 40 minutes but there wasn't much difference between that and 15 to be honest. I'm quite pleased with the final result. No PP, raw Arion output.

    • RE: My car....absolutely ruined!

The flashbacks will go Oli, trust me. I crashed my old motorbike head on into a van at about 50mph. Broken bones, heart surgery........the lot! Took a while but it does get easier. Glad you're OK though, metal is a lot easier to fix than flesh πŸ˜‰

    • Iphone HDR

      Hi Guys,

I've just seen that the next update to the iphone will include the ability to take HDR pictures. I was wondering if I could use these when rendering? For example, if I want to render something in my house and use an image of my kitchen as a backplate image could I use the HDR picture I take from the iphone the create the reflection in the object I'm rendering?

Just a thought as it would be very useful to be able to do that.

    • RE: Render This - Marble

Second one using Arion Render. This took about 1h 20m. I'm quite pleased with the results, would like to have put some DOF on it but I'm not sure how to do that with Arion yet.

      First crack at this one.
      Arion Render - 60 mins
Set up time after sketchup was about 15 mins

I've got another one cooking at the moment with a slightly different material for the outside of the marble. I'll upload it when it's done.

I would also recommend Twilight for price and quality. Very simple to set up, lots of high quality built in materials and the ability to import more that others have already made. Makes the set up process very quick and enjoyable.

Excellent model of the Mondeo Rogue. I couldn't resist doing a few renders of it.

    • RE: Audi rendered with Arion

      Hi Scott,

You're absolutely right. I guess it's like having a Ferrari and only testing it in first gear. With that in mind I've gone away and played a bit more with various scenes and have come up with the attached. I think these are a lot better representation of the quality of the render engine. I'd be the first to point out that I'm not the best at this in the world but I think it shows what an average user can create quickly and easily.

      Thanks for your reply.

      Hi Guys,

I know this is an old post but just came across it and thought I'd have a crack at it.

Arion render, 45 mins with about 10 mins setup.

      Feedback is always appreciated.

      Hi guys,

Thought I'd have a go at this one. I might try another few of the old ones as it has been great practice, especially when learning new software.

This was rendered in Arion for about an hour. I'm quite pleased with the results. Set up time was about 15 mins for the textures and lighting.

      Comments would be very welcome.

    • RE: Audi rendered with Arion

      Hi Cadmunkey,

The purchase was out of my hands so it was kind of slapped in front of me! I'd had a look over it and a quick play with the demo which got my thumbs up so it went from there. It's a lot of cash to part with compared to octane and twilight but if the boss has the credit card, that always helps πŸ˜„

We just needed something that was going to push out good quality renders quick. Almost all of our work is with custom aluminium components which just looks horrible with a flat render so this fitted the bill after seeing the work which others had done in it.

The plugin for sketchup is particularly friendly, I've had no issues with it at all and it's very quick. It even imports the camera over for you so it can be a 1 click solution for the final render.

This doesn't feel third rate at all, top class product. The only issue we've had is the documentation, or lack of it! It's not a major problem but it doesn't have a great set of tutorials yet.
