I want and need this ruby......I wish I could just press a button and select the active section plane. As it is now I have multiple section planes close together on a large model large spatially that is and in order to move a section I must zoom out so far that it is impossible to distinguish which section plane I am selecting by it's corner nodes. very frustrationg

RE: AutoCAD & Revit Models
Chris welcome back. Lets all hope that the age old saying "mind over matter" will be true in this case. put your mind on to more interesting things like 3d modeling and maybe the body will be free to heal itself. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

RE: Considering M Arch programs
Nick
A bit of background on me before I respond so that you can take my advice with a bit of the flavor of my past to go with it.
I started out in pre-engineering at a small college in my hometown (Fort Hays State University) I submitted my rudimentary drafted drawings from high school to the architecture department at the University of Kansas in 1985 and was accepted. At that time a Bachelors of Architecture was a 5 year degree. I Loved architecture school I was one of eight to do an internship in my first semester of my fith year for which I worked in New York and received full school credit. I learned more about architecture in the internship than I could have ever learned in school. There is academic architecture and real world architecture. After Graduation I moved back to New York. At that time New York had not adopted IDP and so I had to have 3 years of internship before taking the exams. I did pass the registration exams in 1995 and have been a licensed architect ever since.
SO how does this help you....
There were two camps those that went to graduate school after undergraduate degrees and those that went to work in architecture firms. So which one are you?
I've been in this industry long enough to have seen it's ups and down and to understand what are some of it's pitfalls.
Going to graduate school will be a benefit to you if you are already a talented designer. Having both the talent and the degree will translate into more opportunities in the real world practice. However if you lack talent a degree will not be of much use to you in the real world, it may open some doors but you will still need to perform once inside.
So the long and short of it is what do you hope to gain from a masters degree? I mean if it is purely to enhance your current design skills and learn some new ones or is it motivated to get a better job etc., etc. If ultimately you want to practice architecture and get your license as an architect then possibly entering the work force and getting your IDP credits and taking the exam would be more wise.
OK so after saying all that do I have any regrets for not going to a masters program, Yes.

RE: New Building Style using Organic Tools

Like Frederick I have also been a lurker in most of your posts, for similar reason they appear to be an exploration of fantasy and as such more leaning towards the artistic side. However this one seems to have bridged the gap between art and architecture. The contrast of the more fluid structural elements with the rectilinear floor plates is pleasing. Almost like a tree house but on a much larger scale.
Sometimes you have to explore fantasy to push reality a little bit farther than where it currently is. It's visionaries like you that expand the perception of what is acceptable.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

RE: @Google team: Intel says to prepare for 'thousands of cores'
I think a web based viewer application makes sense. but for content creation on a large scale or high poly models only an on board application will work.

RE: TRON as you haven't seen it before (think cardboard)
I never got into Tron but I was addicted to Robotron:
I spent countless hours in the arcade playing this game. My high school friend Wes and me would take turns playing for hours on just one quater. We would roll the machine several times.
Ah to be in high school again and have unlimited free time....and do something productive other than play video games. But we don't get to go back and change things do we.

RE: LightUp
I've downloaded it but I'll wait till I have more time to play with it.
Looking forward to kicking the tires on this one.

DTS exporter
Iv'e been asked to research content creation for a simulation software called Extendsim
my initial review of the programs ability to import 3d data shows that it only imports files in the DTS format. since thier 3d graphics engine is the Torque engine from Garage Games.
http://tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/DTS/FeatureChart&needLogin=1
I have not been able to find an exporter to DTS file format from Sketchup. Does anyone know if it exists.
information on exporters for other 3d apps:
http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=5959
a place to download exporters for other apps like 3dsMAX, Maya, Blender etc.
http://www.alexswanson.com/torque/dts/
any help would be appreciated.

RE: [You've Got To Be Kidding] Nurse > Google> Death
I agree but unfortunately the internet is creating a generation of people who need to Google their way out of a paper bag. I have myself fallen into a trap where I needed directions to someplace and the internet dsl line was down and I had to panic to find a real paper map to look up the directions...
Moral of the story don't become too reliant on the internet.

Great news. Let's just hope all 10 thousand don't post one message a day...the place would quickly become a log jam.

apparently there were "meeting" bicycles with five seats so that you could conduct a meeting while on the bicycle. I did not see them but I think Ross did?
